“Set The Controls…” 2014 Tour

The Australian Pink Floyd Show is proud to announce that their 2014 “Set The Controls…” European Tour is on sale now. Tickets are available from www.aussiefloyd.com/en/tour/ or by phone from 0844 811 0051 and 0844 826 2826. The tour will draw heavily from the iconic ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’, ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘The Division Bell’ albums but will also feature an element that will allow the audience to choose the material that the band plays in certain sections of the show. There will be 21 UK dates - including a show at The O2 London - on this tour and the band will perform a 2 hour set.

Thurs 6-Mar-2014

Following on from their enormously successful 2013 dates, this even bigger UK tour will see the band bringing their meticulously crafted show to an ever-growing audience. Founder member Jason Sawford said, “We cannot wait to start the ‘Set The Controls’ tour, the UK audiences are always brilliant.” Bassist Colin Wilson added, “This tour will take the band the length and breadth of the UK. We’re looking forward to meeting up with the Aussie Floyd fans again and, of course, playing the amazing music of Pink Floyd.”

Brighton, Centre

The Australian Pink Floyd Show are much more than a tribute to the great music of Pink Floyd, and were described by The Times as “the gold standard”. The band attempt to capture and convey the spirit as well as the sound, and slavish attention is lavished upon their jaw-dropping visuals and effects. Aussie Floyd, who have sold over three million concert tickets in their own right, are much loved for their near note perfect performances which remain true to the original. Their loving recreation of the magic of Pink Floyd’s oeuvre is unmissable. Sunday Times ‘Culture’ said, “The Aussie Floyd delighted the crowd with a meticulously crafted performance, expensively staged with bright lights, lasers, and, yes, inflatables.” The Birmingham Mail added, “I’d heard that the Aussie Floyd were one of the best tribute acts in the business, but I really wasn’t prepared for how good they actually were”.

Carl Palmer is delighted to announce that he is returning to live concert action in the UK with ELP Legacy, with a series of 12 headline shows across the UK in February / March 2014 - tickets are on sale now. He will also release his new DVD, entitled “The Decade”. The tour is named after Carl’s new art collection, see www.carlpalmerart.com. Using state of the art technology, Carl is creating incredible artworks by harnessing the kinetic energy that underpins his playing; truly it is Rhythm On Canvas. He has already made his Los Angeles debut, with a show at Mr. Musichead, and the response was incredible. Carl Palmer is the dynamic drummer and percussionist whose famously technical and [initially] Jazz infused style can be heard on some of the landmark recordings in British Rock. He worked with the biggest names in the business and his versatility helped define what we understand by Progressive Rock and becoming known as the “Drummer’s Drummer”. He picked up the ‘Virtuoso’ award at the 2012 inaugural Prog Awards.

Greg Lake and Keith Emerson, which resulted in the global mega-group ELP. The band recorded a series of albums which are still regarded as touchstones for Progressive Rock. They picked up 9 gold sales awards in the UK alone.

After ELP went their separate ways, Carl Palmer continued his incredible trajectory by cofounding Asia, the massively successful supergroup, who remain active.

His place in the rock firmament is certainly secure, and on this UK tour fans can reconnect with one of rock’s great drummer / percussionists and some of that amazing music.

DECEMBER sees the traditional UK tour by rock legends Status Quo, this time with special guests 10CC. The Bula Quo tour is named after the album and film released by the band earlier this year; and while the term ‘status quo’ is generally taken to mean that things remain the same, this year has not been the status quo for – er – Status Quo. In the first place, back in March, the ‘classic’ line-up of the band: Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan, reunited for the first time in over 30 years for a short tour of Britain. Then in June was a new album – Bula Quo – which was essentially the soundtrack of the first-ever feature film starring the band, which went on release in July. Then there was the little matter of a new drummer, the winter tour and another reunion tour with the Frantic Four line-up. All of which gave the band’s singer and lead guitarist Francis Rossi; always the most loquacious of

people, something to talk about when I caught up with him at his London home. “It was great being with Alan again,” says Rossi, alluding to the fact that he and Alan Lancaster were the best of friends when the band started back in 1962. “John too, although he found it hard – it was hard work for all of us really.” The tour by the original foursome was arguably the rock event of the year, with sell-out crowds at every show. “It’s wrong for me to poo-poo it,” he says. “We did it for the fans as they had been asking for it for many years and I think the time was right.” “And even though I thought we were a bit sloppy and under-rehearsed I can’t believe the reception we got; it was amazing.” And it seems that this won’t be the last we see of the Frantic Four (as they have been labelled). “No, tickets are on sale for some dates in Europe next year, and we’ll be doing Britain again.”

The new album was released in June to decent reviews. “To be honest,” admits Francis. “If we hadn’t done the film, I don’t know what I’d’ve done for the album but I found it very refreshing.” “There’s a lot of diversity on the album which is always nice.” The music industry has changed so much that an album doesn’t have to sell as many copies these days to do well. “That’s right,” agrees Francis. “You can have a Number One now with only thirty thousand sales, and we used to be disappointed if we sold a quarter of a million!” The film, released in early July, was shown in around 200 cinemas throughout the country and has the band on tour in Australia before becoming involved in a crime plot which has them running for their lives and filming in Fiji.

“I was surprised it didn’t go straight to DVD.” Laughs the selfdepreciating frontman. “Seriously, we’re quite enthusiastic about DVD and as a band we’re used to falling on our faces.” “We were pleased with the film in the end and they may even want us to do another one. But,” he adds, “We’ll need to be more involved scriptwise.” At the end of last year, Matt Letley, the band’s drummer since 2000, announced that he was leaving the band. However, due to the obvious problem in finding a suitable replacement, he agreed to appear with the band until May when his place behind the drum-kit was taken by Leon Cave – who had drummed on Francis’ solo tour. “He’s fabulous.” Francis states.

“It was a lousy job, but someone had to do it.” quips Francis.

“Matthew was fantastic and Leon is near him. There’s a vibe that comes out that’s great.”

The film didn’t last long at the cinemas and is out on DVD in November.

“He’s really enthusiastic and so jolly, we’re very pleased with him.”

“Also, he’s joined a band that’s mad about food. We’re always talking about it and Leon’s up for trying anything.” At this point, we realised that Francis’ partner-in-crime since 1967, Rick Parfitt, had recently turned 65 and was therefore a pensioner; will Francis be taking the mick? “I’d forgotten that. No I can’t really, ‘cos I’ll be there myself in six months.” “We are born to grow old,” he says philosophically, before adding the quip, “Which is OK when you consider the alternative.” And so we come to the winter tour with 10CC. “Since we did the tour with Roy Wood a few years back, we’ve been looking to do something similar and the fact that 10CC has come in is good.”

“We’ve done tours with them before and the response has always been fantastic.” But this hasn’t always been the way as Francis explains. “Back in the day our two bands would never have shared a stage and the fans wouldn’t have mixed.” “However, things are different now and they are brilliant which will make us raise our game.” “We did a festival in Falkirk with them earlier this year and it was a damn’ fine night.” “We really do get a bit paranoid about the British tour as it’s really important to us and our intention is to ‘give them a nice night’. “We’re really looking forward to it and it’ll be good value for money.”

As for the show itself, Francis isn’t exactly sure yet what it will entail. “We’ll probably do an hour and a half or an hour forty and there’s a couple of songs from the new album that we might do.” Such as? “Well, Looking for Caroline and GoGoGo are very good tunes and lend themselves to a live performance.” “In the end though, we’ll do what we do.” Which of course means giving the people what they want, with their impressive catalogue of hits like Down Down, Rocking All Over the World, Paper Plane…. The list goes on. Also going on is the phenomenon that is Status Quo; tickets are already on sale for a show in Germany for 2015!

“It’s a corporate show that we do every year,” says Rossi. “15000 turned up for it this year.” And the Quo frontman is stretching his solo muscles again. “Yeah, I’m doing a bit of work on a new solo album,” he says. “I spent most of yesterday clearing out my laptop and checking all the little pieces of music that were on there.” And the status quo remains in Status Quo. Recording, touring; the legend continues. “I don’t know about doing another album yet,” concludes Francis. “The joy is that something might happen.” Martin Hutchinson.

Rebecca Weaver Charlies Live Lounge says: “The majority of clubs in Exeter are aimed at students. I wanted to be able to enjoy a sophisticated night out with my like-minded friends without the rowdiness of a younger crowd which often ensues because of an irresponsibility towards alcohol intake. I am so excited about opening this fabulous new venue and we will be offering great music and memberships. Charlies is aimed at the discerning customer offering three floors of fun, fizz and providing the feel good factor including groove and soul music which is very much my era. Going forward I am buzzing with so many ideas and plan to host comedy nights; burlesque and theme nights and so much more. My aim is to make Charlies the ultimate meeting place and entertainment destination for the city.”

Autumn sees launch of new homes at Kings Field by local homebuilder Kings Field, in the Devon village of Kingskerswell, is the latest new homes development to be unveiled by Torquay-based family homebuilder Cavanna Homes who have already taken several reservations on homes that will be ready in the new year. Construction work has recently begun on the 62 home development on the edge of this thriving village which, when complete, will offer a range of two, three and four bedroom homes suitable for individuals, couples or families who want to enjoy all the benefits of village life but may need to commute to Torquay, Newton Abbot or Exeter. Located just off Charles Road, Kings Field is within a short walk of a good range of local shops, a modern primary school, park, library, several pubs and a regular bus service. Sales Manager Karen Heywood-Cann is delighted with the early interest in the new development. She said: “Kingskerswell village is prompting a lot of interest from buyers at the moment because of its range of amenities, brand new primary school and new play park. People are also anticipating the opening of the new South Devon Link Road at the end of 2015 which is expected to improve transport links and reduce local traffic.

Kingskerswell Church

Property layouts vary across the development but the Cavanna ethos remains the same in that each energy efficient home provides functional living space and modern fixtures and fittings. Harrison style townhouses are among the first homes being built at Kings Field. They feature an excellent family-friendly layout where the ground floor kitchen and family/dining room opens onto the back garden. On the first floor is a living room with views to the rear and a large bedroom with en-suite shower room. On the top floor there are three further bedrooms with a good sized family bathroom. The Easton is a detached three bedroom house with an open plan kitchen/dining room, separate living room and a good sized master bedroom with en-suite.

Exeter

The Kensington offers an alternative townhouse layout with the kitchen/ dining room and living room on the first floor and three bedrooms, one with a master en-suite, on the top floor. On the ground floor is the entrance hall which connects to an integral garage. It also offers a cloakroom and a fourth bedroom that could be used as a study. Depending on the stage of construction, early purchasers have the option of a choice of kitchen units and worktops, and bathroom wall tiles. All properties are covered by a 10 year LABC Buildmark warranty and for further peace of mind, Cavanna Homes give two years of Customer Service Support.

at the PALACE THEATRE, PAIGNTON

With 78 years of experience and a massive £40,000 budget Paignton Pantomime Productions “Sleeping Beauty” promises to be a truly spectacular traditional pantomime. A full company of 40, comprising the best of local talent, a professional script, stunning costumes, dazzling dance routines, a 4 piece band and with lots of audience participation nobody will sleep during “Sleeping Beauty”. There will be amazing stage effects, (who can forget last year’s dancing coloured water fountains or the previous “flying “Cinderella coach) and so “Sleeping Beauty” will be everything a pantomime should be.

“Oh yes it will!” Last year the Herald Express wrote of PPP’s “Mother Goose” “It was professional throughout”, “A real spectacle” and “A great show” and another publication labelled it “A wonderful night of sheer panto magic” This year PPP is pleased to support “Anode” as its nominated charity. “Anode – connecting with people” is a truly local organisation set up to help local people

in the Torbay area at this time. “Sleeping Beauty” runs from the 21st December to the 4th January and with seven matinees this “must see “pantomime can be enjoyed by children of all ages. So contact the Palace Theatre, Paignton on 01803 665800 for times of performances and be transported back to a time of wonder and joy.
