Taxes got you down?

› Never fear ... AARP is here! The AARP Tax-Aide Program, in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service, provides low- and moderate-income senior citizens with free assistance throughout tax season. AARP Tax-Aide is a free service, for those age 60 and over, provided by volunteers who are trained to answer questions and assist with filing the 1040 Form and standard Schedules A and B. Individuals with complex returns, such as those involving businesses and rental income, are advised to seek tax assistance privately. Be sure to bring a copy of your return from last year, all relevant tax statements, receipts, forms, and a Social Security card or SSA-1099 form for each taxpayer and dependent in your household. If you received a Property Tax Reimbursement form in the mail, bring it along. Go to haddonheightslibrary.com for a full list of helpful items. The program will be held at the Haddon Heights Library (608 Station Ave) on Mondays from 12n to 3pm (except Feb 15, President’s Day) thru Apr 11. For details, call 1-888-AARPNOW or visit aarp. org/taxaide.

Check out the scouts

 If you have sons, take the time to learn about scouting! The Boy Scout and Cub Scout units of Haddon Heights have much to be proud of this winter. More than 15 Boy Scouts from Troop 67 and 40 Cub Scouts from Pack 163 marched in the Haddon Heights Holiday Parade, collecting a record number of donations for local food banks as part of the national Scouting for Food Program. Over 100 food items were handed to the Scouts by parade-goers, surpassing a five-year record for donations. The donations are being used to re-stock southern New Jersey food banks, which have seen an increased demand over the past year. Haddon Heights Cub Scout Pack 163 welcomes boys in kindergarten through 5th grade to attend meetings on the fourth Friday of the month at First United Methodist Church of Haddon Heights, located at 7th Ave and Garden Street, at 7pm. In addition, weekly den meetings are held at various locations. For more information, e-mail Fred Rojek at njlaxfan2005@yahoo.com. Boy Scout Troop 67 of Haddon Heights is open boys ages 11 to 17. Generally, meetings are held on Thursdays at Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church, located at White Horse Pike and Green Street, at 7pm. Scout Troop 67 offers 12 weekend camping trips a year. In 11 years, 27 boys in Haddon Heights Troop 67 have attained the rank of Eagle Scout. The troop includes boys from Haddon Heights, Audubon, Collingswood, and other towns. For information, contact Kevin Teer at kteer@scouttroop67.org. The Boy Scouts of America is currently celebrating its Centennial Year. Its mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law – loyalty, courtesy, helpfulness, and bravery.
