Around the Town What’s Your Take, Collingswood?

• Former Collingswood resident JESSICA EMMONS, pictured with her daughter MIMI (3), would enjoy the opportunity to dine with her family. Mimi, on the other hand, quickly answered “Mickey Mouse!”

The Proud Neighbors’ annual Porch Brunch and House Tour will be held on Sun May 17. If you could be seated with anyone at the Porch Brunch, who would you choose?

• Formerly of Collingswood, nanny JANICE FISHER would jump at the chance to enjoy a porch brunch with her “dear daughter Natalie and many good friends.” Nanny Jan is pictured with her young charge, DANE CODER (18 months).

• Stokes Avenue’s COLIN BRENNAN is pictured enjoying a warm day with his grandson NICO JACKMAN (18 months). Colin said that, if given the chance, he would like “to have a talk with Dick Cheney” over brunch.

What’s Your Take, Township?

• East Walnut Avenue’s CAROLYN ABBATTE and her daughter EMILY (2) are pictured enjoying a beautiful spring day. Carolyn stated that they will “continue giving used clothing to Purple Heart.”

Help Steven and his friends Drum out SMA on Sat May 16. Which charities and organizations do you support?

• When it comes to giving, East Greenwood Avenue’s SARAH MATHEWS has a soft spot for animals. She supports “The Humane Society, the Jane Goodall Institute, and the Nature Conservancy.” Sarah’s mother CELINE BURCH, visiting from Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, supports the arts: Lincoln Center and the Philharmonic Society.

• Nurse ALEX SCHAFFSTALL works with children with cancer. She supports the Leukemia Foundation. Former Haddon Township resident TJ COYNE makes it a point to “help the ASPCA.” The couple is pictured with their dog RIZZO. Congratulations to Alex and TJ on their recent engagement!

A midspring play ...

 The Collingswood Shakespeare Company is preparing to take the stage again ... this time with A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The tale of mischievous fairies, passionate lovers, and befuddled craftsmen revolves around the marriage of the Duke Theseus to Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. As mortals and immortals gather to celebrate the nuptials, magic takes place in the woods of Athens. The company will even perform scenes outside (weather permitting). Performances will be held at the Tatem-Shields American Legion Hall (622 Atlantic Ave) on Fridays and Saturdays – May 2, May 8, and May 9 – at 8pm; and on Sundays, May 3 and May 10, at 3pm. The Shakespeare Company will perform at Haddonfield’s Friends Meeting House (Lake Street and Friends Ave) on Sat May 16 at 8pm and Sun May 17 at 3pm. Tickets are $15 per person; $10 for seniors, students, and active military personnel. For more information, contact collingswoodshakespeare@gmail.com, visit collingswoodshakespeare.org, or call Carol Alutius at 609-221-2991.

recycling made easy!

 Good news for those inspired by the Borough’s Green Festival. Your grass clippings, yard waste, and small pieces of brush are now being collected by South Jersey Sanitation for recycling. Recycling yard waste is easy! Debris should be placed in open trash cans away from regular trash. Small brush (under 4 inches in diameter) should be tied and bundled or placed in open trash cans. Items to be recycled will be collected on your regular trash day until October (when leaf season begins). Note that if you are using a lawn service, they should be removing all generated yard waste. The removal of larger pieces of yard debris can be arranged by calling Public Works. Call 858-0533 to schedule a pick up.

The Borough will come alive with art, music, food, and fun for all on Sat May 23, from 10am to 5pm, as Collingswood Partners hosts the 30th annual May Fair. What began in 1979 as a small outdoor art show has evolved into a ten-block-long spring extravaganza encompassing most of the business district along Haddon Avenue. Blues, rock, folk music and more will pour from the Fair’s four stages. At the same time, more than 100 artists and crafters will display and sell works during the Fair’s juried art show. Children will revel in the excitement of the “KidZone” which will include pony rides, carnival games, moonbounces, and more. An antique & classic auto show and HarleyDavidson motorcycle display will insure that there is something for everyone! When hunger strikes, visitors will be able to relax at one of the Borough’s fine eateries. Two food courts, featuring a wide-range of options, will satisfy the most ravenous fairgoers. Need dinner fixin’s? The vendors at the Farmers’ Market will take care of that! In the event of rain, the May Fair will be held on Sun May 24 from 12n to 5pm. collingswood.com Steven P.
