Raison D’etre

A term used to describe a design firm’s underlying passion, or reason for existence; in short, why we get up in the morning. For us it is straightforward, to contribute to people’s everyday lives through the creation of thoughtful outdoor spaces. Our landscapes are authentic, grounded to their context and environment, and unique in both design and execution. Inside you’ll see a few projects that exhibit our raison d’etre.

1

MODERN WATERFRONT RESIDENCE LOCATION: FORT LAUDERDALE

One of our more contemporary works, we collaborated with the architect and interior designer to carry the modern theme outdoors. The geometric driveway with grass accent strips, the entry walls and gates, the wooden features, and the tropical plant material were all designed to bring the colors and textures of nature into the hardscape. In this way, we were able to simultaneously accentuate and soften the contemporary architecture. 2

Two Canary Island Date Palms dominate the entrance, and pull you toward this residence (above). Behind the residence the intracoastal occupies the entire property line, creating a truly one-of-a-kind view (left).

ISLAND STYLE RIVERFRONT LOCATION: JUPITER

The outdoor living space of this private residence in Jupiter was designed to maximize the tropical hideaway feel, while creating spaces that are usable. The beach like feel of the zero edge pool looking to the intracoastal, the modern glass torches, the coral hardscape accents and even the white sand paths, all come together to embody the island lifestyle. 6

Dense planting of tropicals and the use of coral stone provide the senses of remoteness and nature, while the clean edges of the paver patio invoke a contrasting simplicity, making this dwelling truly unique. 9

PALM BEACH ESTATE LOCATION: TOWN OF PALM BEACH

This classic Palm Beach estate evokes a northern feel, while still using touches of tropical plant material to relate to its tropical setting. The scale of this property allowed us to bring in old growth specimen plant material to provide enclosure and privacy while still allowing for vast open lawn areas for events and activities. The use of clean, simple forms and materials makes for a timeless composition. 10

Lush green foliage thrives on this estate. Coconut palms emerge through the large hedge rows and tie together the formal/tropical hybrid composition. Old growth Seagrape trees frame the entry with elegance, while the large rear lawn allows plenty of space for events and recreation. 13

NAUTICAL INTRACOASTAL RESIDENCE LOCATION: JUPITER

The outoor spaces of this residence were designed considering both its’ breathtaking views of the intracoastal, as well as the owners passion for fishing. It gracefully connects the rear of the home to the water. The zero edge swimming pool sits flush with the paver patio, and the wooden decking also meets flush with the pavers. This comprises a very sleek transition of material, creating a clean aesthetic. 14

LUXURY STUDENT HOUSING LOCATION: BOCA RATON

This modern oasis was designed with the student in mind. While providing resort style amenities, this landscape provides Florida Atlantic University students the environment to relax and play after long tiring days of classes and studying. The features of this site include a grand lawn, zero-entry pool, bar and grill, cabana, water/fire feature, and pergola. Combining these elements into a central courtyard space creates a first class and truly unique living experience for the students.

As part of the club’s extensive renovation, the pool area was designed to enhance the outdoor aspects of the clubhouse, and provide endless capabilities in terms of hosting events and recreation/leisure. This prestigous club is well versed in nighttime activities, and the pool deck is the perfect place to enjoy them. Various tropical plantings enhance the lush environment, and provide the perfect setting for South Florida.
