Purpose Statement

Vision Statement

The purpose of Westwood Community Church is to honor God by enjoying Him through reaching people with the love of Jesus Christ.

We demonstrate God’s love in creative and compelling ways that lead people to know God, worship Him authentically, grow spiritually, serve joyfully and connect relationally. We are a community with open hands, receiving from God all He wants to give, believing He wants to give us a lot. And with open hands we give it away, believing we cannot out-give God.

Our purpose and vision exist because: We love God with all that we are, have and do. We love all people because all people matter to God.

CURRENT SERMON SERIES The Heat Is On: Weathering Everyday Problems Living the life of a Christ-follower does not guarantee us a pain-free existence. The promise we have as believers is that God will be present with us in our difficulties. He will give us the ability to cope—to face our struggles with a strength surpassing our own. As we mature in our understanding and faith, we grow in our ability to see that God uses the difficulties and problems of life to stimulate growth and maturity in us, giving meaning and purpose to them.

Over time we become stronger in His strength and wiser in His wisdom. In this 8-week summer series, Westwood pastors will give us guidelines from Scripture to find hope and persevere when difficulties and struggles come, when “the heat is on.” See more online at

Connect Relationally Ministry

A Closer Look MATURE GENERATION IN DEVELOPMENT Pastor Joel K. Johnson announced Pastor Mark Nelson’s transition from Worship Arts to the Mature Generation last month. Over a year’s time, Mark will focus on passing the baton of Worship Arts leadership, transitioning existing ministry teams, and making sure the ministry is resourced for future effectiveness. The new ministry will be all about reaching the mature generation with the love of Jesus Christ with a holistic approach that will be felt-need driven. Three distinct generations of adults will be targeted: the Boomers (50-64), the Builders (65-79), and the Elders (80+). Mark will spend his transition year building a leadership team, developing a ministry plan, and hosting forums to launch this new Mature Generation Ministry.

At Westwood we believe that baptism is for everyone who believes in Christ and has chosen to follow Him. Baptism is a time of celebration! In baptism, people express faith in Christ and publicly acknowledge their commitment to Him. Baptism symbolizes the believer’s union with Christ, spiritual cleansing and forgiveness, and promised resurrection into eternal life. Westwood celebrates baptism together in community in June and September at area lakes as well as periodic occasions in our Worship Center. Classes are offered prior to the summer and fall baptism services.
