C MPASS Detroit Animal Cops is a reality show I watch from time to time. The stories both infuriate and encourage me. The cruelty of humans to animals is infuriating. The dedicated people who rescue and rehab abused animals is terrific and wonderful; more than all that, the forgiveness and resilience of the animals is amazing.
Where EVERYONE Is Welcome!! SUNDAY SERVICE 10 AM October 20, 2013
I recall a little dog cooped up in a tiny, filthy cage; hungry, cold, and soiled, all the little creature had ever known was neglect and abuse. And what did he do when the rescue people opened his cage? He wagged his tail.
MESSAGE Rev. Ted Boodle WORSHIP Kathy Hibbs
The story follows the rehab of the little dog and concludes with him in a new adopted home, surrounded by love and happiness. And he knows it. And he soaks it up. And he gives it back.
HEAD USHER Brian Palmer
Christian community ought to help restore people to true community. We lost true community when Adam and Eve lost the garden. We’re capable of causing pain, like the abusers; we’re capable of reaching out and helping restore wounded people to health and love. But there’s a price. Austin Forman was an eleven-year-old living on Vancouver Island. One Sunday evening he was walking with his yellow lab named Angel. Angel became agitated. A cougar came charging out of the forest and leaped at Austin. Angel leaped between Austin and the cougar. Angel survived but only because a police officer arrived in the nick of time to shoot the cougar. Angel put his life on the line for Austin. That’s pretty wonderful. That’s what Christian love and community ought to look like. We don’t just think of ourselves but we think of others. I am free but I’m not free to do anything that hurts another human being. Christian community is healthy community; it is also demanding.
