C MPASS I read the story of a Pastor who resigned at his church, moved from a major city to a small town and took a job that paid much less and was physically much more demanding. He left everything he knew, everything he felt part of to begin all over again in a totally different setting. Why did he take such radical action?
Where EVERYONE Is Welcome!! SUNDAY SERVICE 10 AM November 3, 2013
Something precious to him was at risk. Something he loved more than his own life was threatened. Something he would give his life for was in danger. He would do whatever he had to do to protect something he loved more than life itself.
MESSAGE Rev. Ted Boodle WORSHIP Rev. Mark Davis
His adult daughter wrote the story. She was the reason her father uprooted his life and his family. She described how as an impressionable thirteen-year old she had become part of an unsavory group of kids at school. Her life was at a dangerous crossroad. She was “slotted” into the wrong group and lacked the strength to get out. Her father wanted her to have a fresh new start in life.

Not every parent can uproot like this father did. In this story the radical action succeeded. The Dad took a huge, personally costly risk. Why did he do it: He understood the role of friends. He understood that friends could be a benediction that elevates or a curse that destroys. He understood that who we hang out with can set the direction for the rest of life. We all hang out in modern culture. We can’t just uproot and move to Mars. We may not be able to run away to another town but we can choose who we permit to shape our thinking, our actions and the values that will set the compass of our lives. What we choose we will surely become.
