C MPASS Community is essential, life affirming and increasingly one of the most difficult concepts to translate into daily experience. The Fellowship of the Ring in Lord of the Rings is a wonderful illustration of the power of friendship and community. The four Hobbits go together, grow together, suffer together and together they defeat evil.
Where EVERYONE Is Welcome!! SUNDAY SERVICE 10 AM February 2, 2014
Tolkien was telling us something about good and evil in his timeless book. Friendship helped destroy evil in Middle Earth along with sacrifice and words. And it’s not like Merry and Pippen or even Frodo or Sam were perfect heroes. They made silly mistakes. They were tiny and weak. Yet they hung together and kept trying and in the end they prevailed.
MESSAGE Rev. Ted Boodle WORSHIP Ryan Froese
True Christian community is not possible without sacrifice, THE Word of God and the will to swim against the rip tides of the times. Busyness, entitlement, distractions, pseudo intimacy (like promiscuity, pornography, Facebook and TV) all stand arrayed across the path to genuine community. Social Media has become a mantra yet people are lonelier and more isolated than at any point in recent history. Ironic is it not?
HEAD USHER Kim Evoy GREETERS Marjorie Dergousoff Sharon Douglas Renee McFarlane Cindy Olafson
I read the story of a man who suffered a complete emotional burnout. He had been running so fast that his brain destroyed all his serotonin. That’s what too much adrenalin will do to us. His psychiatrist told him he didn’t have to do a thing to get better but that he did have to STOP doing a bunch of things. Community is still possible but community will always be difficult to build and difficult to sustain. But worth every sacrifice. Are there some things we need to cut back on? Are there some sacrifices we need to make to make time for healthy community? Nobody owes us friendship. We must make room for true community or die alone.
