“Taylor Page wins the WNYPGA WNY Classic at Lawrence Park G.C.”

July 30, 2018 – Lawrence Park Golf Club, Erie, PA Taylor Page, Assistant Professional at Pennfair Golf, won the Professional Division of the WNYPGA WNY Classic Tournament with a 4 under par, 68. This was Taylor age’s first win in the WNYPGA Section. Tom Keenan and Mike Boss tied for second place with 69.

PGA Life Member, Tom Keenan, won the Senior Professional Division with a three under par 69. It was the first senior event that Tom was eligible to play.

Lon Nielsen, PGA Life Member, won the Super Senior Professional Division with 73.

Taylor Page and partner Steve Allen tied with Michael O’Connor, Kahkwa Club and Jay Honard tied for first in the Partners Net Better Ball Pro Am with 63.

THE CLASSIC INTERVIEW With Defending Champion

We sat down with our defending champion, Taylor Page, to get an idea on what is going through his mind before the event and to see how he is preparing for the WNY Classic!

Q: With the strong season you’re having so far, how do you feel about your game going into the WNY Classic?

A: ) I've been pretty solid for most of the year. My scores are definitely not as low as I'd like them to be but I've battled out most of my rounds to a respectable number. I'm just coming out of a back injury from a couple weeks back, so my swing is finally starting to feel comfortable again. My game was definitely not ready for the Blaisdell Open but I'm hoping to come back playing well for the WNY Classic.

Q: Going into the WNY Classic, what parts of your game are you feeling confident in and are there any specific parts of your game your looking to focus on to prepare for the tournament?

A: Going into the WNY Classic I'm feeling very confident with my driver and my tee game in general. I definitely need to work on my putting and speed control around the greens as they can be diabolical around this track. I'm also looking to dial in my wedge game as my distance control wasn't very sharp this past week. As the back is feeling better, I can start to swing with some authority again which I'm looking very much forward to!

Q: The WNY Classic was not only your first tournament win of the year last season, but it was your first tournament win of your WNYPGA career. So, does this tournament hold a little more meaning to you than some of the other tournaments you’ve played in so far and how so?

A: This tournament definitely has some meaning to me. It was my first event in the WNY PGA and my first win, shooting four under at Lawrence Park. I was so happy to have started off so strong, and I'm patiently waiting for my game to come back around to that kind of form. I know low scores are right around the corner. Sometimes I am guilty of trying too hard and putting too much pressure on myself to play my absolute best. I'm looking forward to freeing it up and continuing to compete against all of these fantastic guys that make up the WNY PGA section.

Steve Crane, PGA will be the 42nd WNYPGA Professional to be named the WNY Classic Honoree (former Rochester Classic) at this year’s tournament. Steve will join the likes of numerous influential PGA Professionals including national PGA Professional Award Winners, Craig Harmon and Jim Mrva. The award intended to honor a PGA Professional that has given so much back to the game of golf, his/her club, and the community. Steve has been the leader and pioneer in growing the game of golf in the Northeast and Erie communities for many years.
