Statewide water system still under stress
Late last year, water managers around the state prepared for another devastatingly dry winter. Now, we are breathing a sigh of relief as our state’s reservoirs continue to refill and our snowpack reaches record-breaking levels. At Western Water, our immediate dry weather concerns are coming to an end. But some parts of California are still experiencing water shortages, and many communities still face the longterm effects of drought. In addition, we know the next dry period is just around the corner. California will continue to experience longer, hotter and drier weather, conditions punctuated by intense, fast-moving storms.
That is why we are working every day to ensure you have access to water now and in the future – no matter the weather conditions. In fact, Western Water is advancing stormwater, recycling, and water quality programs to further our water supply goals. We recently completed the “connecting the drops” project, bringing the region approximately 253 million gallons of new local groundwater.
While we work to bolster our water supplies, we still need our customers to continue their water-saving efforts. Using water wisely, even during wet years, will help stretch those supplies as far as possible.
