West Blvd. Elementary School “2011 Ohio Hall of Fame School” September 2011 Dear Parents / Guardians, I would like to take a moment and welcome everyone back to school. The 2011-2012 school year has many wonderful activities and educational events planned. The entire West Blvd. staff is excited and enthusiastic for the new challenges and experiences the new year will bring. We are all looking forward to a wonderful school year entitled, “Team West”. I need to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of writing notes for bus changes and parental transportation of students. No student will be permitted to report to the transport area (main office hallway) unless a note is on file at the office. Daily transportation notes must be re-submitted to the office each year. Also, any changes in student dismissal procedure such as, being picked-up rather than riding the bus must be taken care of prior to 1:00PM. No changes to student routines will be made after 1:00PM. This has become an issue with all elementary schools in Boardman and new policies have been established for student safety. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter. Also, it is imperative that a note accompanies a student on their return to school from an absence. If a note is not present on their return after 2 days, the absence becomes an unexcused one and is not reversible. With reoccurring unexcused absences, legal action can and will be pursued. Also, if your child arrives at school later than 8:10am, parents/guardians MUST sign the child in at the office. Again, your cooperation is necessary for the safety of all the children. With the start of school, come the numerous forms that need to completed and returned. Please complete those forms and return them to school as soon as possible. A $25.00 student supply fee is also required by the Boardman Local Schools. This fee helps defray some of the cost of the numerous supplemental expenses. The student fee must be submitted for report cards to be released after the first grading period. If concerns arise regarding payment, please contact the school to make necessary arrangements. Your timely assistance is greatly appreciated. West Blvd. Elementary School will continue incorporating the “I AM IMPORTANT” Social Contract into the school climate. We will be continuing this approach this year with the added theme of “Team West All-Stars”. This year’s theme will continue to tie the student body and staff together in our educational studies and social environments. West Blvd. Elementary School will be continuing the team teaching approach in grades 2-3-4. Students in these grades will be having more than one teacher this year. Another change this year comes in the form of new staff and reassigned staff. The West Blvd. family would like to welcome Mrs. Farkas, art teacher (first semester), Mr. Wilson, music teacher (second semester), Mr. Stahura, Physical Education (all year), and Mrs. Neff, school nurse to the staff at West Blvd. These individuals will be an asset to our students, staff, and school community. West Blvd. Elementary School’s Social Contract I am Important I am an important part of West Blvd. Elementary School, I deserve to be treated with kindness and not to be laughed at or teased. I deserve not to be bullied, threatened, pushed around or have my property destroyed. I deserve to express my opinions or ideas and have them accepted by others. I deserve to learn and share myself with others and express my feelings without being criticized. I deserve to be myself and be treated fairly. This makes no difference on how I look or think or whether I am a boy or a girl. I deserve to be respected as I respect others. I can be a friend and I have a lot to offer in a friendship – honesty, fun, sharing with one another, caring for one another, and having good feelings for one another I am Important Thank you to our wonderful PTA for all their help in preparation for this school year. I strongly believe that our PTA is a necessity to the future success of our students and would hope that everyone would become a member. The cost is only $5.00 so please support our PTA. Parents, community and teachers need to work together for the benefit of our young people. Keeping an open door of communication and utilizing the student homework/behavior notebook as well as our daily planners, will allow this to consistently happen. If you have a question or concern regarding anything at school, do not hesitate to call your child’s teacher or myself at 330726-3427. Sincerely,

Alphonse A. Cervello Principal
