WASO Community Engagement & Education WASO is proud to offer a diverse range of Community Engagement and Education programs that engage people from a young age, and share a life-long musical journey with them through workshops and performances in community settings and classrooms across the state. Our award-winning programs reach music appreciators of all ages including young people, pre-professional musicians, educators and amateur enthusiasts.

The Rusty Orchestra
A special week in the year that highlights the variety of WASO’s Community Engagement & Education portfolio, presenting a selection of programs for students of all ages, as well as free performances for the general public.
The only opportunity of its kind in WA, active community musicians sit side-by-side with WASO members to rehearse and create a larger than life symphony orchestra performance.
EChO Kids’ Cushion Concerts A 15-piece WASO ensemble, joined by an entertaining presenter, introduces children (0 - 6 years) to the instruments of the orchestra through famous repertoire and popular favourites. EChO in Schools Interactive and engaging performances for students in K - Year 6, these programs introduce the Orchestra, its music and musicians. Music for Schools A variety of programs that offer students the chance to observe rehearsals, attend performances and meet WASO musicians. Young & Emerging Artists Our International Artist Masterclass Program, Composition Project and partnership with the University of Western Australia provide pre-professional musicians invaluable access to world-class visiting artists and opportunities to be mentored in a professional orchestral environment. Crescendo The only program of its kind in WA, an El Sistema-inspired free music education program in two primary schools in Kwinana.
Hospital Orchestra Project (HOP) A collaboration with the School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health at Perth Children’s Hospital, to share our music with children, families and carers. Harmony Music WASO musicians perform for students with Special Educational Needs in the comfort of their school environment. Connect Open Rehearsals Specifically tailored to address issues of access, community organisations can observe WASO at select rehearsals. Regional Education WASO offers a diverse range of programs for students and areas in regional and remote areas including WASO On The Road Touring, Onslow Kids Music Education (OK ME!) and Regional Arts Program (ReAP).
These programs are supported by Crown Resorts Foundation and Packer Family Foundation, Woodside, Healthway, Mitsubishi Corporation, Department of Education, Tianqi Lithium Australia, Water Corporation, Hale School, Crescendo Giving Circle and The James Galvin Foundation.
