Blessings! Allen Green Back in December as I was getting off the train which I take daily to work, I wished the conductor a happy and blessed Christmas. Another rider who was also getting off the train behind me said, yes! we are truly blessed. "Thank you Jesus". My response to her was, we are indeed truly blessed. I then began to think about all the blessings for which I was thankful. I realize, I have so much for which to be thankful. I am a truly blessed individual. Each morning I wake up, place my feet on the floor and walk to the bathroom is a blessing from God. I am so wonderfully blessed by my creator. There is a song that my choir sings titled "Count Your Blessings, Name them one by one". Wow! When I think about all the blessings God continues to bestow upon me it would take thousands of pages to write them down and still I would not be able to think of all of them. Following is just a few of my blessings which come to mind at this time. First, I am blessed to have lived many years in this world. I have seen so many of my friends and colleagues which I grew up with that have left this world to their reward heavenly or other. Second, I am so rich beyond what words can even describe. Not rich in the financial, monetary sense but rich in blessings given me by my creator and Lord. I have a job which I I love and enjoy going to everyday. I thank God I have always been blessed the majority of my working career to have had great jobs. God has also blessed and given me the gift of music. I have not found a church ministry which I desire to become a member but I do tithe faithfully to a ministry of my choice. No, I have not always been a tither. However, I know there is a blessing in tithing. God has promised to bless you when you give Him back 10% of what He has blessed you with according to the sacred scriptures. I have never had a job where I had to be working in the elements, rain, snow, cold or heat trying to make an income. I have always been blessed to have food, shelter, and clothing. There has never been a time in my life where I have been homeless or hungry. I bless the Lord for this. I have enough income that I am able to take care of my bills and have some funds left over to buy things I need and want. I have my health and strength (such an important blessing!) Yes, I may have a few occasionally aches and pains, but I thank God that they do not hinder me. I thank God for my health insurance and prescription coverage. I have

been blessed abundantly yet in no way have I been deserving of God grace and mercy. I am in no ways perfect. Yes, I have sinned and continue to sin on a daily basis, but I am so glad that God gave Jesus to take no only my sins but the sins of the world upon His shoulders. I know God loves me and I love God. 2013, I strive with the help of the Almighty to be a better person and to delve deeper into the study of scriptures

No New Year Resolution Over Here...BUT A CHANGE IS COMING! Nope, Nah, No-No, Not Here! So you make another New Year Resolution, only to find yourself failing at what you prepared to live out the year before. Yes, Resolutions are only those things you vow to complete in the new year that you failed to complete last year...crazy, right? Stop the madness! If you are truly going to change ANYTHING, you will change it once you notice it needs change. Promising to change something later, that you know needs change now, will further delay the change. You are the only one who can really make things happen in your life, for the better or the worst. I am a procrastinator and it messes me up All the time, the thing is, I KNOW IT DOES and have not changed the behavior yet! I will not make a resolution to change this for the new year because I need to change it now or I will stay procrastinating until 2014. So I know if I don't want to be late on a project (like this submission) or if I don't want people to see me as the one who's never on time, I MUST change the behavior. Take a look at what it is you need to change and write out a list of things that will assist you in making those changes. If you are late for work, ALWAYS, then you should make a list to 1) Put your clothes out at night, 2) Make your coffee at night so it can go in the microwave in the morning, 3) Do you hair at night...and so on! If your issue is that you want to lose weight, then your list should, 1) Only eat fruits after 8pm, 2) Substitute junk food for healthier snacks like chips for crackers or sodas for teas, 3) Add more activity to your daily routine. Sticking with the changes you listed may take time, but if you want a better outcome to your continued bad behavior, you must adapt quickly. So I'm telling you now that your NEW YEAR Resolution will only last for a couple months, you must make a Lifestyle change, something you can really live and work in your life. And change things that need to be changed NOW! Happy New Year friends!!! Irene Council aka Sincere Vessel

Congratulations to our President Despite the underhanded, dirty politics of the Republican Party who did everything in their power to block the vote. God saw fit that President Barak Obama would be reelected for another four years. We congratulate the president and first lady for a job well done. We continue to pray that the Lord will lead and guide Mr. Obama as he leads the United States of America. Pres. Obama has a rough four years ahead of him. The Republicans are still hell-bent on destroying his presidency. They are being used daily by Satan and his demons to destroy all that is good. We must continue to pray for our president and most of all, when the primary elections come up make sure that we are at the polls to vote out all Republicans whose main agenda is to block the president’s plans.

The Simple Principle of Prayer Wesley C. Prayer is nothing more than a sincere communication between oneself and God. Young people in some churches need to be educated and instructed how to communicate with the Creator. It is as simple as the way one would carry on a conversation with a friend or loved one. Prayer is a two way communication between God and the individual. It consists of talking and listening. It disturbs me to see young children who through no fault of their own, when asked to pray read a prayer from a pre-written sheet of paper. We as adults hopefully do not fall into the same category of reading a pre-scripted prayer. We should teach this simple principle of prayer to the young children and teens of our places of worship. Would you read from a script someone has written to conduct a conversation with a good friend or a parent? I believe that you would speak your mind and heart to the individual. You would speak using your own words, the way you communicate. It is not difficult at all to talk to God from the heart. Please teach your young children and teens this simple principle of prayer.

A HEALTHY BODY IS A HEALTHY MIND IS A HEALTHY SPIRIT Writer - Phill Hughes Hello, welcome back. I’d like for us to talk about another disease that has plagued our society; type 2 diabetes. There’s good news and bad news about type 2 diabetes, which used to be called adult onset diabetes. The bad news? It’s striking people at younger and younger ages, and rates are skyrocketing globally as the population grows heavier and gets less physical activity. With the rising rates of childhood obesity, it has become more common in youth, especially among certain ethnic groups, ours. The good news? It’s highly preventable. Keeping weight in check and being physically active can help prevent most cases of the disease. The answer to the question "What should I eat?" is actually pretty simple. But you wouldn't know that from news reports on diet and nutrition studies, whose sole purpose seems to be to confuse people on a daily basis. When it comes down to it, though—when all the evidence is looked at together—the best nutrition advice on what to eat is relatively straightforward: Eat a plant-based diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains; choose foods with healthy fats, like olive and canola oil, nuts and fatty fish; limit red meat—steak, hamburger, pork chops, and the like—and avoiding processed meat—bacon, hot dogs, and deli meats and foods that are high in saturated fat and avoid foods that contain trans fats. Healthy Eating: Ten Nutrition Tips for Eating Right

Choose good carbs, not no carbs. Whole grains are your best bet.

Pay attention to the protein package. Fish, poultry, nuts, and beans are the best choices.

Choose foods with healthy fats, limit foods high in saturated fat, and avoid foods with trans fat. Plant oils, nuts, and fish are the healthiest sources.

Choose a fiber-filled diet, rich in whole grains, vegetables, and fruits.

Eat more vegetables and fruits. Go for color and variety—dark green, yellow, orange, and red.

Calcium is important. But milk isn't the only, or even best, source.

Water is best to quench your thirst. Skip the sugary drinks, and go easy on the milk and juice.

Eating less salt is good for everyone's health. Choose more fresh foods and fewer processed foods.

Moderate drinking can be healthy—but not for everyone. You must weigh the benefits and risks.

A daily multivitamin is a great nutrition insurance policy. Some extra vitamin D may add an extra health boost.

Know When to Holler UNCLE Writer: Christine Tunstall

An idiom is an expression whose meaning is not predictable from the usual meanings of its constituent elements. In that regard, for this article, I will utilize the term ‘holler Uncle’ in the idiom format. Using that format, to holler uncle is an informal cry, a willingness to indicate to someone that your fight is over, that you are willing to give up the fight or surrender. Here we are in a new year (2013) with many people wishing they had hollered uncle instead of using hard earned money that originally was earmarked for bill paying to purchase gifts that the giver could not afford to give. Now, it’s January and not only are you short on rent money but utility money as well. The money that should have gone to keep a roof over your head, food on the table and utilities paid (or at least paid-on) were used for gifts. Now regrets are overflowing because the recipient of the gifts didn’t even show gratitude and your bill collectors want payment, not (ridiculous) excuses about how it was Christmas and you made some bad choices. In December instead of falling prey to the sounds of jingle bells and one-day sale signs, resulting in your spending bill money for the materialistic nature of the holiday season, the most realistic reaction should have been to holler UNCLE, pay your bills and tell your family and anyone else you were buying gifts for that your gift to them was self-support in December so that you won’t have to beg for loans (or housing) in January. Below is another prime example of when hollering uncle is the best course of action but it may not be the course you have determined to take. You have been without a significant mate in your life for so long that you are beginning to believe that lonely is your first name. You believed you had plenty of time to find that special someone so you confidently made your list of non-negotiable requirements for who you would even consider spending time with. The years have slipped past quicker than you anticipated and your non-negotiable list changes to no list of requirements at all. By the time you meet up with that man or woman who previously would never have been considered a prospect for even causal dating, you are now viewing as a prospect for a future lifetime mate; and you are heatedly negotiating with your spiritual leader to ignore the voices he is hearing and just hear your voice concerning your future mate, you need to holler 8

JANUARY-APRIL 2013

THE COFIELD REPORT VOLUME 1

UNCLE. Not only do you need to holler uncle but you need to run as fast as you can in the opposite direction and remember that Jesus was single so if it was ok for the son of God to live without a earthly mate, it would have to be ok for us. So pick up your chin, smile and strut your stuff in the full knowledge that all things are not for all people and when you receive that late night call from your best friend who is crying the blues because of some heartache caused by their life mate, smile and thank God that you hollered UNCLE at the right time and the right place in your life. You were raised in church yet decided once you became grown that you weren’t going to make your kids go to church. You decided you were going to let your children decide whether they wanted to spend their Sundays in church, giving them an opportunity (as you define it) to understand choice. Now those little rascals are becoming quite a handful at home, school and any place else you dare take them. They don’t seem to have any direction concerning right/wrong and are defiant to you and every adult they come into contact with. You dutifully drag them to church to fulfill the CME (Christmas, Mother’s Day and Easter) requirements but even that is becoming challenging because they won’t sit still long enough for you to get some Word in them. While they are still merely juvenile delinquents and not ready for adult incarceration, you holler UNCLE, grab hold of some old fashion child rearing rules and take control of your children and household again. You set the standards for your household and show (by example) that you truly have not departed far from your biblical training. And from this day forward it is God first, beginning on the first day -- Sunday -- and all throughout the week. You will then be able to sit back and see the salvation of the Lord work to bring your family together. There is a song we sing in church “All to Jesus I Surrender” that is a fitting close to this passage, I believe. When you are at your wits end and decisions become more challenging for you to make, holler UNCLE but when you surrender, remember who and what to surrender to. Silently sing these words: “All to Jesus I surrender, all to Him I freely give; I will ever love and trust Him in His presence daily live; All to Jesus I surrender, Humbly at His feet I bow; Worldly pleasures all forsaken, take me Jesus, take me now; All to Jesus I surrender, Lord I give myself to Thee; Fill me with Thy love and power; let Thy blessing fall on me; I surrender all, I surrender all; All to Thee, my Blessed Savior, I surrender all.” Wow. How powerful is that! When you holler UNCLE, surrendering to Jesus will make everything bearable and you will know that you do not walk alone. Happy 2013. Be blessed!! 9

Losing Weight the Healthy Way: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall Writer: Donald Willis In my last article, I talked about humor and how you really have to laugh, yet and at the same time embrace who you are. Now on to more concrete advice as a start to answer the following questions: how do I actually lose the weight and keep it off?. First, I will ask you to please consult your physician before you embark on any diet and exercise plan. Having said that, let’s get started. With the mirror techniques I am about to introduce you to, it is important to keep in mind that you need to let your intuition be your guide. Most importantly, focus on your feelings and take your time. The mirror technique will allow you to take an assessment of where you really are with losing weight. Do your best to follow the steps below without being so hard on yourself: 1. Today, take a good look at yourself in a full length mirror. It is best to do this in an outfit that reveals a lot of your body. Take your time examine yourself from head to toe . Embrace all of you. 2. While in the mirror, be honest with yourself about the weight gain. Maybe even have someone close to you take a picture of you, so you have something to compare it to when you meet your weight lost goals. (I have all the confidence in the world that you will do it!) 3. Continue to take in everything you see in the mirror. This may be very upsetting at first, so remember to use your support system if needed. If you are feeling any shame or guilt about the weight gain, forgive yourself and say something like, “I did what I knew back then, however, today I know better, so I am going to do better”. Know that you are loveable and worthy of meeting all your goals. Come up with an affirmation that you use when you walk past the mirror from today on. For example, you could say: I truly believe I can lose the weight and I love all of me enough to do it. Positive self messages will heal negative thoughts. 4. Release and let go of any negative beliefs you have about yourself. Negativity can literally cause stress - stress causes weight gain as most emotional eaters know. – That includes me. 5. After you have done this internal work, and have some good feelings about yourself, It is time to move, move, move. The best advice I heard recently from a yoga instructor was: “the body wants to move”. You will need to move (walk, climb stairs, dance to your favorite music, etc.) Every day for at least 20 minutes a day Start your movement and in the next article, we will begin to talk about scheduling exercise, portion controls, setting realistic goals and overall ways to reduce your caloric intake. Until then, keep working on healthy habits. Be blessed and mostly, be patient with you. 10

recollection or remembrance. In this day and time, when the pace is so fast, and problems after problems – crises after crises keeps on hitting us in the face. We have become so bogged down with the cares of this life. The mind is so crowded with the thoughts of what am I going to do next? How can I pay this bill? What I am going to do about my life? I had such plans and now it seems that every dream is out of the window. What will happen to me now? The mind is so bogged down until we have just about squeezed God out of our thoughts. We have shoved God back into a little corner and we pick him up when we just can’t do any better. As long as we have health and strength – as long as we can see our way – as long as we can seemingly make it on our own, the mind does not recognize the need for God. II Corinthians 3:5 “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God” We’re in desperate need of a “Renewed Mind” the mind – the intellectual faculty in man – His consciousness – the knowledge of that which passes in one’s mind. The mind will cause the wrong decision to be made, and if not changed or renewed, we will continue to make the wrong decisions. The mind will cause us to think negatively about situations and people and if not changed or renewed, we continue to think negatively. This mind that God has created in us needs a renewal in the spirit. We cannot receive a new mind in Christ until we let go of the old mind. Romans 8:7 – 9 “Because the 11

carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. The mind must be changed – the mind must be reprogrammed. The fleshly mind must be changed over for we walk not in the flesh. The bible says to us, “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” We want life – we want peace but we want to continue to hold on to the old man. The old mind. The old way of thinking. Philippians 2:5 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” What was the mind of Christ? According to the Word, it speaks to us in reference to the mind of Christ. St. John 4:34 – “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” My purpose – my intention – the substance that keeps me going – my mind is set on doing the will of my Father, the one that sent me. St. John 6:38, 39; “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.” This, in a nutshell, is that my Father’s will be done. Everything handed over to me by the Father be complete – not a single detail missed and at the wrap-up of time I have everything and everyone put together, upright and whole. This is what my Father wants. The mind of Christ – to do the will of His Father. If we want the peace of God – our mind must be changed – our minds must be renewed in Christ. And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. How can this be done with so much to encounter – so much to put up with – with one situation after another. Philippians 4:7,8 “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Fix your thoughts on what is true, honorable, and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. I Peter 1:13, “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the special blessings that will come to you at the return of Jesus Christ. “A Renewed Mind”

The Expectation of Faith Writer: Monica F. Hudson

As we turn pass the pages of the believers life there is a powerful word that draws us closer to this life of struggle and trials, a word that gives testimony of the Christian experience that the majority of the world will never understand for they are looking in all the wrong places. We can find and recognize it throughout the bible as the people of God put him before themselves and it can be strongly identified in the book of Hebrews for those new Christian's to be taught how to walk the journey when finding themselves in deep struggles and even defeats. In the book of Hebrew 11:1 What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see. God gave his approval to people in the days of old because of their faith. In the continued reading of the Scriptures in both the Old and New Testament the bible projects events where the Lord's people (Israel) were placed in impasse situations that proved to be divinely orchestrated to demonstrate the miraculous power of God and his chosen conviction in His promises fulfilled through Abraham were not only true but binding. The witnesses of faith and conviction can be seen in the scriptures of Exodus Chapter 14. Then the Lord gave these instructions to Moses: Tell the people to march toward Pi-hahiroth between Migdol and the sea. Camp there along the shore, opposite Baal-zephon. Then Pharaoh will think, "Those Israelites are confused. They are trapped between the wilderness and the sea!' And once again I will harden Pharaoh's heart , and he will chase after you. I have planned this so I will receive great glory at the expense of Pharaoh and his armies. After this, the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord!" So the Israelities camped as they were told. When word reached the king of Egypt that the Israelites were not planning to return to Egypt after three days, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds. What have we done, letting all these slaves get away!" they asked. So Pharaoh called out his troops and led the chase in his chariot. He took with him six hundred of Egypt's best chariots, along with the rest of the chariots of Egypt, each with a commander. The Lord continued to strengthen Pharaoh's resolve, and he chased after the people of Israel who had escaped so defiantly. All the forces in Pharaoh's army--------all his horses, chariots, and charioteers--were used in the chase. The Egyptians caught up with the people of Israel as they camped beside the 14

shore near Pihahiroth, across from Baal-zephon. As Pharoah and his army approached, the people of Israel could see them in the distance, marching toward them. The people began to panic, and they cried out to the Lord for help. Then they turned against Moses and complained. '"Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness/ Weren't there enough graves for us in Egypt? Why did you make us leave? Didn't we tell you to leave us along while we were still in Egypt? Our Egyptian slavery was far better than dying out here in the wilderness!" But Moses told the people, Don't be afraid. Just stand where you are and watch the Lord rescue you. The Egyptians that you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. You won't have to lift a finger in your defense!" Then the Lord said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving! Use your shepherd's staff--hold it out over the water and the path will open up before you through the sea. Then all the people of Israel will walk through on dry ground. Yet I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians , and they will follow the Israelites into the sea. Then I will receive great glory at the expense of Pharaoh and his armies, chariots, and charioteers. When I am finished with Pharaoh and his army, all Egypt will know that I am the Lord!"

Then the angel of God, who had been leading the people of Israel, moved to a position behind them, and the pillar of cloud also moved around them. The cloud settled between the Israelite and Egyptian camps. As night came the pillar of cloud turned into a pillar of fire, lightening the Israelite camp. But the cloud became darkness to the Egyptians and they couldn't find the Israelites. Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the Lord opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night turning the seabed into dry land. So the people of Israel walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on each side! Then the Egyptians-----all of Pharaoh's horses, chariots, and charioteers----followed them across the bottom of the sea. But early in the morning, the Lord looked down on the Egyptian army from the pillar of fire and cloud, and he threw them into confusion. Their chariot wheels began to come off, making their chariots impossible to drive. "Let's get out of here!" the Egyptians shouted. "The Lord is fighting for Israel against us!" When all the Israelites were on the other side, the Lord said to Moses, "Raise your hand over the sea again. Then the waters will rush back over the Egyptian chariots and charioteers." So as the sun began to rise, Moses raised his hand over the sea. The water roared back into its usual place, and the Lord swept the terrified Egyptians into the surging currents. The waters covered all the chariots and charioteers---the entire army of Pharoah. Of all the Egyptians who had chased the Israelites into the sea not a single one survived. The people of Israel had 15

walked through the middle of the sea on dry land, as the water stood up like a wall on both sides. This was how the Lord rescued Israel from the Egyptians that day. And the Israelites could see the bodies of the Egyptians washed up on the shore. When the people of Israel saw the mighty power that the Lord had displayed against the Egyptians they feared the Lord and put their faith in him and his servant Moses.

Those living outside of the Lord's will, outside in the coldness of the world's promises try to voice an open opinion about the biblical text of the Christian faith using scientific or allusive explanation to those events that seem far-fetched or incapable of happening, the influence of reasoning vs faith more over empowers those that believe, in the difficulties of life and when one seems backed into a corner such as the Israelites reasoning doesn't compare to anything you have ever seen before when faced with tough challenges filled with adversity. The Israelites were expecting God to come to their rescue not realizing that He was with them all the time, it was the power of their faith in God that saved them when they didn't let fear flood and drown them. What are you expecting God to do for you in your life? Are you waiting for Him to rescue you from a difficult situation, problem, issue or maybe someone? Believe and know that God has equipped you with everything that you need, for He has sent His Son, Jesus to redeem you, it is through faith that you practice your believe, that you are made strong, given the shield of faith, filled with the Holy Spirit, a mouth to speak the Word, rich in saving grace, healing and receive God's mercy. It is when the believer gives testimony to a life reborn through the Holy Spirit, stands firm on the Word of God and cling to their faith in Christ that things that are going wrong in your life starts to turn around, God uses those negative plans for His glory. Expect nothing less but to live a successful life through Christ.

The Pressing World – writer Monica F. Hudson Philippians 3:13-14(niv) Brothers. I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

The year of 2012 has now come to a close and we are advancing yet into another year with the expectations of a more fulfilling year. With calendar dates filled with busy progress and some disappointments. Should we look back over our life at all the Lord has brought us through within the blessings of our life with a one-sided point of view thinking it could have turned out better? Yet God has given us His mercy and kindness, it is up to the believer to keep walking and striving to be used by God, to press to win the prize.

So, may we examine in this scripture the word that identifies and magnifies the word pressing in this topic of the Christian walk which are straining, press and called it is these three words that God has given through the apostle Paul that sets the tone to create an atmosphere and teaches us how to walk the journey in this present life. The word press is defined as to exert steady force or weight against. To compact or reshape by exerting steady force. To place in constraining or trying circumstances. Harass: To weigh heavily, as on the mind.

In this letter which the apostle Paul has written to the saints in Philippi he is giving direction and ssurance of the kind of life that they should be living identifying the struggles of the earthly life, living through the spirit of what the Lord has taught us in this battle between worldly wants or aiming for those gifts on the other side of this life through Jesus promises. The apostle Paul is teaching and pinpointing how to take notice of how we are living our lives and walking the wrong roads they could lead to destruction, the wicked life of pride, arrogance, shameful worldly things and how their conduct has made God turn away from them. Let us continue to examine the word straining which delves deeper into the identity on the life of living in the spirit and using all that God has equipped us with for this earthy journey. Straining means to strive hard. To. Be very hesitant, balk, great effort, exertion, or tensions. Great or excessive pressure or stress one's emotions or resources. Suffering strain from overwork. We must ask ourselves often in our life what are 17

we straining from or towards, sometimes the roots of life can wrap around our life and have and have us bound. So it is the free life that the apostle Paul wanted to identity to the saints that they could see the difference in his own life. In living in this present life just as then in Paul's life many obstacles plague us and distract us from God's own plan for our life, between the avenues of work-force, economy, wages, social anxieties, worldly events it can be so easy to be distracted and entangled within the forces of stress and depression that lay heavily on individuals and even break up homes, as we see in the rising of divorces, suicides and mental illness.

Paul spoke and delivered clear insight to the Christian journey through the Holy Spirit and how God uses it to direct us on the path to the end of our journey, knowing that all along the way there lie hidden traps and anxieties that come to overwhelm our life. It is within the pressing and the straining a great battle is manifested between the inner and fleshly man that waits like a lion to strike us down an destroy us. It is in the pressing that God is working in the believer’s life, through the positive attitude working to achieve value and work boldly to be an instrument that God effectively uses for His purpose and glory. In the struggles of this life a battle has been waged though seeing believes the apostle Paul taught that faith is the key to this life and obedience in the Lord would gain entrance in the Lord's pleasure of His children.

The Lord has called each one of us that are traveling this earthly road, it is the responsibility to hear and heed the call, as each season has its own calling so does those creatures created by God such as the salmon and the geese who press and strain to reach the calling of their purpose as those before them even unto death. This calling lies within them and they focus, determined no matter what obstacles or dangers to reach their destination. Paul even takes it further to speak of the enemies of God and those that wonder down dangerous paths towards destruction. This calling which is a summons or invitation into holy life journey with God can also lead to great peace, joy, and hope in all that He has done for you in the past, present and future. It is the relationship of knowing Him and trusting Him that will put you at greater need and want of Him in your life that those obstacles and traps He will guide you through. In the Lord's refinery He is molding and reshaping your life to be a useful tool for the kingdom of God. It is in the resurrection that as we face these struggles and sufferings, we also become like Him

in His death. This pressing world takes no satisfaction in truth or the value of souls, only that it should press upon your spirits through flesh its pleasure and coins of wisdom that man would forsake his life to partake in the delicacies of selfishness knowing not sense of inner compassions towards brotherly love or humility spoken through the apostle Paul to the Philippi. Even in this present day man is still plagued. With emotional decisions that could tip the scales of his life for better or worse. So it is the world that presses on humanity through technology, engineering and the need for a more speedier and advance way of living that it tries to overshadow the teachings of Jesus Christ if one is not in right relationship with God. In the calling the Lord draws us away from those worldly vices into an intimate relationship with Him through truth, wisdom but mostly His love that enhances our way of living a better life through the Spirit of the Living God. THE COFIELD REPORT VOLUME 1

“Watch As Well As Pray” By Minister Donald Graham Jr.

My wife and I discussed the above topic during one of our recent talkshow segments and I felt compelled to write about it. It was a very engaging and thought provoking discussion about the importance of prayer and the necessity to watch attentively. In fact, Jesus spoke very plainly about this subject to his disciples in Matthew 26:41 when he said: “Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation…” He said this immediately after admonishing them earlier in the same chapter for not “keeping watch” with him while he was agonizing in prayer in the garden of Gethsemane. I guess the real question I want to ask is why are we often willing to pray but unwilling to do the due diligence of watchful vigilance? I wonder if it is because we sometimes become comfortable with knowing that we serve an omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent God, who is able to do all things. Perhaps we have become content with the notion that if we just have a little talk with Jesus, and tell him all about our troubles, that our job is somehow done. I would beg to differ. I believe that we need to be mindful of our responsibility to watch and be aware of our surroundings. The truth of the matter is that we are engaged in a fight. Every day we are engaged in spiritual warfare on some level. I would submit to you that the worse type of fight to be involved in is one where you didn’t even realize you were in a fight. Spiritual lethargy and complacency will cause you to become an easy target for a “sneak attack”. In boxing, it is not the punch that you see that causes the most damage…it is the punch you don’t see that usually knocks you off your feet. Even as a nation, we can see the consequences of not being vigilant. The terrorists that attacked our great country on September 11th knew that they could not stand toe-to-toe and fight with the world’s most preeminent superpower. However, they realized that they could strike a deadly blow if we were not paying attention. Just last month in Connecticut we saw how someone who was dressed in full combat gear, armed with assault weaponry, was able to gain access to an elementary school and cause death and destruction. Well the same rule applies in this spiritual fight with the enemy. We fight against an enemy who comes to kill, steal, and destroy. We fight against an enemy who doesn’t fight 20

fair. We fight against an enemy who does not think twice about attacking your finances, your friends, and your family…as long as it ultimately results in your demise. That’s why the apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 2:11 not to be ignorant of the enemy’s devices. So yes - while praying is important, being watchful and mindful of your enemy is just as important. To watch as well as pray is to let the enemy know that you are acutely aware that this is a fight. I think Floyd Mayweather said it perfectly: “Protect yourself at all times.” To that end, I implore you my friend...watch as well as pray.

Q: What is the relationship of Chicago Mass to the Ecclesiastes Community Choir? A: The Ecclesiastes Community Choir was founded by James Chambers in 1971. I was a charter member and lead singer. The ECCMW (gospel music workshop) modeled after the Gospel Music Workshop of America, began in 1988. It was held at Kennedy King College. That evolved into the Chicago Mass Choir. One year a record producer from Light Records came to the Friday musical. ..The rest is history. Q: What are some of the awards Chicago Mass has received over the years? A: We have been nominated for a Stellar Award for each of our projects and twice nominated for a Grammy Award. We received the New Artist of the Year Award from GMWA for “I Can Go to the Rock. This December 2012 I’m proud to say we will have completed our ninth concert abroad and simultaneously will have a group going to Switzerland and Spain…very seldom do you hear of one choir going to two places at the same time. We’ve toured in Spain, Switzerland, Italy, and Greece. My vision is to continue to expand our horizons outside of the US…. We haven’t been to Africa but I would love to minister in Africa… Thank God for favor. Q: What do you feel makes your music so special to these diverse communities? A: Because…when you meet people where they are…our ministry speaks to hope and inspiration… All of our songs are uplifting and inspirational. Q: How do you know your music has ministered to others? Through testimonies? A: On our Facebook page people write all the time about how one particular song has gotten them through and even led them to Jesus, ” I Pray We’ll All Be Ready” is one…That encourages and uplifts us as well. 22

Q: How are you able to do ministry within your music industry”? A: Through prayer. It is critical that each member of the choir has a personal relationship with God and is connected and committed to a church body. The choir is composed of a various denominations. Q: How do you feel about the present album Chicago Mass XV nominated for a Stellar? A: It’s very powerful. I’m very pleased with it…We recorded this album at the TBN studio in Henderson, TN. We were one of the first gospel groups to record there. Q: God has continually opened doors for you and this ministry. What is your greatest accomplishment at this time as CEO of Chicago Mass? A: Given the present trends of praise and worship teams and solo artists… moving a choir of our size…we’re one of the few mass choirs that is consistent, still in existence and is nationally known… is a great accomplishment… one that has done nine tours abroad….What is critical to me is our community service as a choir and individually…Each month we focus on a different organization. Members give praise reports of how God has blessed them to be a blessing to others. I thank God for favor and longevity. Q: How does someone become a member of Chicago Mass? A: …in addition to vocal auditions… a test to determine whether or not the individual understands the background of the organization. Individuals must also sit in on two rehearsals. Dr. Williamson concluded by affirming; “God has given me a ministry of encouragement. My motto is ‘If I can help somebody- then my living will not be in vain’”.

THE COFIELD REPORT VOLUME 1

It’s a Black Thing --- You Need to Understand Writer: Christine Tunstall For the February 2012 issue I wrote a piece titled “Black History Month 2012 – Whatcha Gonna Do?” wherein I outlined some items I believed were important (and still are) concerning our community. I spoke briefly about the establishment of Black History Week and when it became Black History Month. I spoke about how (slowly) times have changed from a period when we could not live in certain areas, eat in restaurants, use public accommodations, attend schools, or vote to a time where many who look like me do not understand the significance of even these small accomplishments. Voting, unfortunately for many, is not an urgent or even a moderately important issue in the black community. It is embarrassing to admit that many minorities will stand in line for many hours just to play the lottery – even in inclement weather - but won’t even give a passing thought to registering, much less, voting (even on sunny, warm days).

While many minorities may not understand the significance of the power they have with just one vote, the power of the vote is not lost, by any means, on our republican leaders. During the recent Presidential election, many tricks and tools were implemented in an effort to suppress the vote of minorities. While the most egregious suppression tactics did not work to satisfy the results of the election in the republicans ultimate favor, they did learn new methods to utilize that will help secure the outcome of future elections in their favor. Rachel Maddow who has a very engaging show, 9:00 PM nightly, on MSNBC recently reported on her show that “State Republicans plan to use a gerrymandering strategy with the Electoral College to give a greater advantage to republican candidates in presidential races.” During Rachel’s show on January 17, 2013, Rachel reported that the Republican State Leadership Committee has a project called “Redistricting Majority Project, or REDMAP”. “To briefly recap, the Republican group freely admits – boasts, even – that if American voters had their way, there would be a Democratic majority in the U.S. House, but thanks to Republican gerrymandering, the party has successfully rigged the game. The next step for the party is identifying key states – including Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Ohio – and changing the way they allocate votes. In effect, after having “fixed” congressional district lines to guarantee success regardless of popular will, Republicans also intend to rig presidential elections, starting in 2016.” That is just a sampling of the 24

THE COFIELD REPORT VOLUME 1

lengths that the republicans will go to just to suppress your vote. While those who look like us don’t fully understand how important the vote is, the republicans are quite certain of how important each and every vote is in this country. The title of the article that goes into detail concerning this new assault on our rights is titled “If you can’t win elections, rig them”. It is written by Steve Benen and was featured on http://maddowblog.msnbc.com, the Maddow Blog. It is great reading.

Now, here we are at another Black History Month, with race relations in this country fractured even more than ever before. It is not hard to see that most of the tension and animosity flows due to the fact that Barack Obama has been elected for a second term to the Presidency, by a margin even larger than the margin measured when George Bush stole the election. Gun sales are at a all time high; threats against the President (and other minorities) are incomprehensibly high with little regard for how these issues cause our Country to look around the Nation.

I ask here again, in 2013, what is it going to take for you to realize the power that you wield with your vote? Imagine what our President could get done if he had a congress and senate with a democratic majority. It is not too late. There is a midterm election coming up in 2014. We can set the tone right then to allow our President to sail through the final two years of his Presidency leaving a legacy that we all can be proud of.

In 2013 get involved. Join the NAACP, National Action Network and a religious organization. Get involved in your church, in your neighborhood, in your household. Leave a legacy of your own for your children to marvel about. Take pride in where we have come from but get involved to help guide where we are going.

I also mentioned in 2012’s February issue that each of us should take the time to tune in each night to MSNBC at 6:00 PM to watch “Politics Nation” hosted by the Rev. Al Sharpton. Apparently some of you took my advice as that show is now the highest rated show on MSNBC. Rev. Sharpton brings issues to the forefront in his no-nonsense, up-front manner. It is excellent television programming. Please take the time to view this program nightly. You will not regret it. If it were not for Rev. Sharpton, many issues that have stayed out of mainstream media would never receive a voice.

It is 2013 – It is a black thing and you absolutely need to understand!!!

Be blessed!!

How many folks do you know who say they don't want to drink anything before going to bed because they'll have to get up during the night!! Heart Attack and Water - I never knew all of this ! Interesting....... Something else I didn't know ... I asked my Doctor why people need to urinate so much at night time. Answer from my Cardiac Doctor Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs and etc) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement! I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body, but this was news to me. Correct time to drink water... Very Important. From A Cardiac Specialist!

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body: 2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion 1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure 1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

I can also add to this... My Physician told me that water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse. 26

Subject: FW: FW: Mayo clinic aspirin Good information.

Subject: Mayo Clinic on Aspirin - PASS IT ON

Mayo Clinic Aspirin Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. And noon. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame.

1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night. The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system.

2. FYI, Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest for years, (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar).

Please read on. Something that we can do to help ourselves - nice to know. Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets. Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It's about Heart Attacks There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently. Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.

The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep. If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water. 27

Afterwards: - Call 911. - Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by. - Say "heart attack!" - Say that you have taken 2 Aspirins. - Take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and ...DO NOT LIE DOWN! A Cardiologist has stated that if each person after receiving this e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life could be saved!

Friends, Look UP and Live!!! Love and prayers, Mary Daniels Biblical Listening: Trust and Obey - Dr. Charles Stanley Saturday, January 19, 2013 James 1:19 Yesterday we looked at the various ways people approach God’s Word. If you assessed how you listen to His instructions and determined there’s room for improvement, be encouraged—that realization is the first step toward becoming more sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Now, commit to . . . • Listen carefully. By an act of your will, choose to listen purposefully when you read the Bible or hear it preached. Decide to “pray without ceasing” as you go through your day (1 Thess. 5:17). • Resist all outside clutter. One of Satan’s strategies is to get our minds so occupied with peripheral concerns that we compromise our reliance upon Christ. So much of what we deem important plummets down the priority scale when held against the light of truth. • Evaluate your life against what you’re hearing in Scripture. This means taking the initiative to hold up your life against the standard of God’s truth—and agreeing to making any necessary changes. • Apply the truths that the Holy Spirit impresses upon your heart. This is a decision you make—one that indicates just how serious you are about walking with Jesus Christ. God will honor your stepping out in faith, and you’ll see that He can be fully trusted. Listening to what the Word of God says is important, but life transformation won’t happen unless you personally apply its teachings. Strive to obey Scripture and the Lord’s leading every time. When you do, He takes responsibility for the results, and you will find Him trustworthy.

Ash Wednesday – Allen Green – Stop the Lies Why do we as Christians, the followers of Jesus Christ continue to maintain the practice of rituals and customs that have pagan roots and are not scripturally based? In this day and age of modern technology. We need to take the time to really examine the study what the word says. Ash Wednesday is not mentioned in the Bible. None of the apostles observed it. Nowhere are Christians commanded to keep it. It was not officially practiced until nearly 1000 years after Christ’s resurrection. Like so many other non-biblical Christian customs (Easter, Christmas), it has pagan roots. It is a sad fact that modern Christianity has borrowed so many pagan customs. One would wonder if Christianity should still be called Christianity. The ritual of the imposition of the ashes that so many denominations perform is supposedly in imitation of the repentant act of covering oneself and dust and ashes. The marking of believers on Ash Wednesday is performed during the period called Lent. Jesus commanded his followers to abstain from the practice of disfiguring their faces during fasting. Jesus told them to wash their faces. The practice of putting ashes on one's for head comes from ancient times. In the Nordic pagan religion, placing ashes on the forehead was said to ensure the protection of the Norse god, Odin. The spreading of ashes on the forehand was done on Wednesday, the day named for Odin, Odin's day. According to information taken from the Encyclopedia Britannica, one of Odin's names is Ygg. This is the Norse word for ash. The Norse practice which has become known as Ash Wednesday was itself, drawn from the Vedic Indian religion. Ashes were believed to be the seed Agni , the Indian fire god. It is from this name that the Latins used for fire, ignis. It is from this root word that the English language got the words, ignite, igneous and ignition. Agni was said to have the authority to forgive sins. Ashes were also believed to be symbolic for the purifying blood of the Vedic god Shiva, which it is said had the power to cleanse sins. Christ made it plain in John 4:23-24: But the hour cometh and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. We need to be sure that those individuals and organizations who observe modern “Christian” practices are religious. They may have personal conviction, but they are missing a vital element of the faith. They are lacking truth. Mark 7:7: Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the 29

commandments of men. Hebrews Chapter 9 states that we are made clean by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. No amount of ritual or work of the hand of man can achieve this.
