What People are Saying about Wescott Golf I have played about every course in the area this year, and Wescott has been hands down the best all around course. Fairways, greens and bunkers have been in great shape every time I have been there. This course has 27 holes and has the perfect challenges on every hole for beginners or the avid golfer. The staff is always friendly. We played there this past weekend and will be a memorable experience for my partner who got his first hole in one one number 4 on Black Robin. If you have not had the opportunity to try out Wescott, you are missing out on one of the best hidden gems of the Charleston area. -
I have played the course many times and continue to come back. This is a course for everyone!! The course itself is layed out very well and makes you make some tough decisions to make low scores. The staff at the course is very nice and the Rangers keep the pace of play up. -
Good course...difficult from the ideas! Fairways, greens and bunkers in excellent shape. Greens really significant and demand accurate placement when you care to score...while they roll a bit slow. Worth the fee and your time...would absolutely play again. -
How to Improve your Short Game by Utilizing a System
For beginners and pros alike, the best way to process new information and assimilate it with your own is to use a system or routine. People all learn differently and we have to adjust to each and every body. This is aside the fact that there is so much information available for everybody that it becomes harder to simplify information.
Now, here is a short-game system that can be quite simple and is based upon two basic fundamentals – trajectory and roll. Ball position directly impacts trajectory while your hand position/shaft angle affects roll.
To simplify it, here are some examples. In a low running shot (bum-and-run or chip shot), you can play the ball off your back foot with your club shaft with your hands angled substantially forward. This will produce a low shot (ball position back) with a forward roll when it lands (hands and club shaft forward). If you would like a medium height shot with a forward roll (high chip or pitch shot), play the golf ball in the center of your stance for that extra height but position your hands slightly forward for that forward roll. For a high shot with a minimal roll or a lob shot, place the ball more forward in your stance and place your hands over the ball.
Try this simple system out the next time you are on the course or if you are on a short game practice area. You will see a clear difference on the way you played before and after the system.
Golf Charleston SC
Wescott Golf Club is located in the heart of the Lowcountry just minutes from Charleston International Airport, historic plantations and gardens, and beautiful beaches.
Course architect Dr. Michael Hurdzan designed this 27-hole course with his trademark environmental sensitivity. Set among centuries old live oaks and built on one of the lowcountries oldest plantations, the design captures the traditional flavor of low flowing earthworks and classic bunkering.
Each hole is separated and framed by vegetation and natural wetlands. The three 9-hole courses are Oak Forest, Burn Kill, and Black Robin. Each presents players with a different feel and look. Oak Forest offers wide fairways and subtle greens, and only the occasional hazard or penal bunker. Burn Kill requires a slightly more accurate tee shot for the best angle into the immense and most undulating greens. Black Robin is a shot makers paradise with a premium on accuracy and the ability to shape your shots through tree lined fairways to well guarded greens.
Wescott is one of only a handful of South Carolina courses to maintain TifEagle putting surfaces and TifSport fairways. These new generations of Bermuda grass
offer up exceptional playing conditions year round and the areas fastest and most consistent putting conditions. Play from any of 5 sets of tees ranging from 5000 yards at our forward tees to 7200 yards from our championship tees.
