Stocks fell broadly for a third day on escalating conflict in the Middle East and grim economic news from Europe. The U.S. and five Arab countries attacked lslamic State headquarters in Syria overnight. Investors also worried about a drop in a purchasing managers' index in the 18 countries that share the euro. Stocks were also pulled down by new Obama administration rules limiting "inversion" deals that allow companies to avoid paying U.S. taxes. The Dow Jones industrial average fell by triple digits for a second day in a row. All 10 industries in the Standard and Poor's 500 fell, led by a O.g percent drop in makers of consumer staples.
