President’s and CEO’s Reports
The last two months have seen some really exciting progress with our building works. In October the new kids play area opened and in November the new main foyer was completed. Both of these projects were delivered on time and on budget and we are really pleased with the results.
December is always an exciting time at Wenty Leagues as we host some of the biggest Christmas promotions around. This year we will be giving away $35,000 worth of prizes in our famous Christmas Raffles including Toys, Seafood, Ham, Pork, Turkeys and Hampers.
The state-of-the-art play area is truly every young persons dream come true with a maze of crawl tubes, a giant double slide, computer games station and a purpose built movie room. Already we have seen an increase in young families using this facility and we look forward to increased patronage for our food and beverage areas as people discover this new drawcard. The new reception, which opened in two stages in November, now gives a much more fitting first impression of our Club. The natural stone and timber finishes look absolutely first class and are complemented by improved technology which streamlines the entry process for visitors to our Club. With these internal projects now coming to a close, our attention is focused on making improvements to other areas of the Club, in particular our main lounge areas. We are presently working through concepts and I look forward to sharing plans with you shortly. At the time of writing work on the new Western car park was progressing well with this stage on track for a December opening. When this area opens work will move to the creation of the slip lane and entrance from the Great Western Highway. On behalf of the Board I wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. Ian McCann President
For New Year’s Eve there will again be plenty of fantastic entertainment on offer with the traditional Pipe Band walk through, The Frocks playing live in Lucido and The Beatels entertaining our Starlight Room Function. As Ian has mentioned in his report, recent months have seen much activity with our renovations. Despite the disruption caused, it is pleasing to note that our trade has not been adversely affected. At the time of writing we are on track to post an improved trading result from last year. Unfortunately the threat to our future livelihood in the form of the government’s proposed poker machine reforms still looms large. Despite many Labor Ministers privately expressing concerns over the proposal, it continues to be publicly supported due to the government’s reliance on the support of a single MP, Andrew Wilkie, to maintain their tenuous hold on power. ClubsNSW has launched the second phase of their campaign against these ill conceived proposals. I encourage everyone to visit the website www.wontworkwillhurt.com.au to learn more about just what this proposal will mean for the club industry. As I have said previously, if you don’t support this proposed legislation then please voice your concerns directly with local Member Julie Owens by emailing her at Julie.Owens.MP@aph.gov.au or phoning her on 02 9689 3813. I look forward to seeing you around the club. Dave Brace Chief Executive Officer
