GANGgajang was formed in 1984 when Mark Callaghan, previously of The Riptides, and Buzz Bidstrup and Chris Bailey formerly of The Angels, were commissioned to write songs for the ABC TV program Sweet & Sour. The songs became a debut album with hit singles Gimme Some Lovin, House of Cards, Giver of Life and the classic Sounds of Then (This is Australia). In 1987, tracks from the album were featured in the classic cult surf movie Mad Wax, introducing the band to a growing worldwide audience and garnering the vote of The Professional Surfers Association of “World’s Best Band”. As the band members are always busy with personal projects, it’s a rare occasion now when they perform together – but it’s always good fun and great music featuring the old hits and new.
