LETTER from the Board President

Dear Supporters, I am thrilled with all that your support has accomplished in the past few years. This season the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra presented a variety of concerts, events, and outreach programs which were enjoyed by over 3,800 participants. The organization has experienced unprecedented growth over the last four years because of you, our dedicated donors, subscribers, volunteers, musicians, and friends. In addition to the concerts and programs we offered to the public, we are proud of the internal progress made these past few years. Our Board of Directors has worked tirelessly, and as the fiscal year concludes, we are pleased to have enjoyed three consecutive years of operational surplus. It is an understatement that the WVSO has reestablished itself as a cultural gem in the region, and our future is brighter than ever. The thoughtful, generous, and committed support of our donors, subscribers, musicians, and volunteers is the cornerstone of our every success. Our growing donor and subscriber bases indicate strong confidence and support from the community and offer an encouraging picture of the years to come. Our three-year vision will be the driving force behind the expansion of our music education and community engagement programs, and we are positioned to embrace exciting new community projects in the years ahead. My fellow board members join me in thanking each one of WVSO’s supporters, and we look forward to seeing you in the seasons ahead. With gratitude and best wishes to you.

Teri Snyder President, Board of Directors Wenatchee Valley Symphony Association

2013-14 HIGHLIGHTS • An engaging season of live orchestral music. • 3,849 youth and adults were served through various concert, education, and outreach offerings. • Young Musician Competition winner Emily Crane. • Three successful productions of the Nutcracker with local dancers. • A semi-staged production of Act II from the Marriage of Figaro. • A concert of music inspired by Shakespeare. • Dr. Caoile continued to present the audience-favorite Concert Preludes (pre-concert talks). • Music students were offered no-cost tickets to dress rehearsals. • Advanced student musicians were offered performance opportunities both as regular members of the orchestra and in the annual Young Musician Competition. • 162 pounds of food were donated to local food banks through the WVSO’s association with the Orchestras Feeding America project. • Volunteers, while providing a large portion of labor to present programs, donated over 5,000 hours of time. • 68 local musicians donated a significant amount of time to individually practice, attend rehearsals, and present concert performances, events, and outreach programs.

CRESCENDO: Our Three-Year Vision for the Future • Produce the very best orchestra possible. • Grow our audience and enliven our programming. • Launch Community Connections, our commitment to provide live symphonic music opportunities and music making experiences to all citizens in our region. • Begin annual tradition of a no-cost community performance. • Present regular family concerts. • Provide concerts for students at targeted grade levels. • Establish partnerships to support school music programs. • Create a mobile Instrument Petting Zoo where children may experiment with musical instruments in the community. • Develop additional programs which provide the joy of music to our region, truly making the WVSO everyone’s orchestra. • Increase contributed revenue to provide for the gradual rollout of Community Connections programs.
