The WRC is operated through the USD 353. It is governed by five selected residents of Wellington who give their services to the community. The WRC Board holds its regular meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 am at the Recreation Center. Residents are invited to attend and are welcome to make suggestions or comments to improve the programs or facilities offered. FITNESS CLASS SESSIONS New this Winter-Spring! For our fitness participants‟ convenience, class sessions are longer, three 6-week sessions replaces the four 4-week sessions previously held. The costs are actually lower, if you enroll in all sessions you are receiving 18 weeks of classes instead of 16 weeks! All classes will be held at the WRC. The WRC is excited to introduce a new Personal Trainer to the Fitness Center, Cherity Elder! Cherity is a Wellington native, and has recently been certified through NETA (National Exercise Trainer Association) as a Personal Trainer. Cherity joins seasoned qualified trainer, Debbie Murphy to assist the inexperienced and experienced exerciser to reach their fitness goals with new techniques and workouts. We have you covered for all your fitness needs! The Personal Training consists of one-onone hourly sessions at which members will be introduced to new exercises, instructed in proper technique, and given advice on nutrition. If you need variety in your workout, let our personal trainers kick it up a notch! Sessions usually include a cardiovascular warm-up followed by strength training and ends with stretching. Who would benefit from Personal Training? Everyone! Our trainers can help you gain speed and strength for a specific sport, or help you with goals of weight loss or gain. Debbie Murphy is a Certified Personal Trainer and fitness instructor with over 34 years of experience at the Fitness Center. Debbie shares her ‘wealth of wellness’ knowledge for the benefit of her students, some have been taking her classes for many years. Sadie Black, CT has been the instructor for the ever popular Yoga classes, (a 6:15 am morning class has been added) for the past 5 years. Cindy Tracy came to the WRC in 2011 and fit right in with our schedule. She enjoys instructing the energetic Zumba classes. Crystal Dawson is the WRC’s SilverSneaker instructor, she makes sure our senior citizens stay limber and active Crystal’s enthusiasm make Silver Sneakers fun for all. She also instructs the Gutz & Butz class. Cherity Elder is a Certified Personal Trainer, who just joined the Fitness team. Welcome Cherity!

NUTRITION FOOD ANALYSIS Are you always wondering as you are going down the aisle at the store if that product you are putting in your cart is really that good for you? Ann Hunter can help. Ann, a registered and licensed dietitian works with the dietary department at SRMC and is also an instructor at Wichita State University. She will look at some popular food products and give you alternatives and suggestions to increase your nutritional wellness. This hands on class will share useful information about how to plan healthful meals, prepare tasty, low-cost foods that are quick and easy and help make dollars last through the month. The Wellington Recreation Center and the Chamber of Commerce are going on the road together– for a ski trip to Winter Park! Winter Park offers awesome skiing and fantastic views of the Colorado mountain scenery. A $50 deposit to the WRC or Chamber office reserves your seat on the bus. PAINTBALL TRIP Run, crawl, or dive behind a tree stump, an old car, or tractor tires to avoid incoming fire! We‟re planning our Spring trip to the Graffiti Paintball Fields by Belle Plaine. Players may use their own equipment, but must buy paintballs at the course ($5 for 100 paintballs). Find your camouflage, tell your friends and come prepared for fun. Your daughter can be a princess for an evening, like Cinderella, Belle, Ariel, Snow White, Jasmine, Ella among other fairytale friends. Easter Eggcellent Hunt Grab your flashlights and bring your whole family for this special egg hunt. We‟ll start the evening playing Easter games with the Easter bunny and as soon as it‟s dark start the hunt. Each egg has been filled with candy or coupons from participating sponsors, including gold and silver eggs with a special currency! After the hunt we‟ll enjoy Easter treats. Get a head start on softball season this winter! WHS coach T.D. Buck will instruct students on hitting and fielding to improve their skills. Classes may be combined if they do not maintain a minimum of six students each.

Are your children too young to play T-ball but need to get out and play ball? Blastball is a new non-competitive sport used to teach kids the basics of hitting and fielding. Blastball will help kids get a head start on fundamentals and further prepare them for T-Ball. YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE Come signup for a sport that children of all ages can enjoy. This is a great sport to learn about teamwork and learn new skills. YOUTH COACH PITCH This recreational league is designed to teach basic fundamentals of baseball/softball in two separate leagues, one for boys and one for girls (IF OUR NUMBERS ALLOW US TO DO SO.) All players bat & play in the field during the entire game. Games are played at Jefferson Park & each player receives a shirt and a hat. Registration begins January 7. WRC BATTING CAGES Improve your hitting skills in the off-season in the brand new batting cages put up at the Armory. There are two cages to hit in and were put up by the WRC for anyone to work on their skills at anytime during the year. WELLINGTON SWIM TEAM What better way to improve fitness, condition and cultivate your swimming ability than participating in a FUN summer sport that could some day save your life? Swimming is great conditioning for other sports as well! Football, softball, tennis, you name it ~ Swimming works every muscle in your body and takes your cardio ability to a whole new level. Wellington Swim Team is a member of the Great Plains Swim League and USA Swimming. Swimmers will compete in weekly swim meets against swimmers in the same age group this summer. STROKE REFINEMENT Join the Wellington Swim Team for pre-season training this spring. Volunteers are needed to help transport the participants, please help with the carpooling if you can. Please preregister by the Friday before the first training day. If a swimmer is not pre-registered, they will not be able to enter the water. WHS CHEERLEADING CAMP Join the WHS Cheerleading squad in this fun and energetic class! Participants will be taught cheers, chants, stunts, jumps, and dance routines. Participants need to wear tennis shoes or dancing shoes, and comfortable clothes. Class fee includes a Cheer Camp t-shirt that will be worn at the performance. Register by Friday, Jan. 25th so that we may get your t-shirt order in. The class will perform their routine that they learn at halftime of the WHS boys basketball game on Homecoming night, Friday, Feb. 1st. The game will start at 7:30 pm.
