Wines of Canada! Ontario, Prince Edward County - Closson Chase Winery www.clossonchase.com!

Closson Chase is a quality-driven producer that helped spearhead the birth of the Prince Edward County wine industry, using centuries-old European traditions & sustainable, innovative techniques to create world class wines using only the finest Chardonnay & Pinot Noir grapes.! Viticulturalist and iconoclast Deborah Paskus is one of Canada’s most celebrated winemakers. Deborah uses innovative viticulture techniques; she is devoted to dirt – rich, pesticide-free and pure as possible. She wants what is placed in the bottle to be as natural an expression of the vineyard as possible. Deborah has worked in the Ontario wine industry since 1987, with the majority of her viticulture experience in the Beamsville Bench on the Niagara Peninsula. Currently Available: ! Closson Chase Vineyard Chardonnay #14255 $34.21! Fermented and aged in barrel for 16 months, this blend of both our north and south vineyards speaks to the emerging character of the Closson Chase Chardonnays. Fruit forward, nose with notes of firm fresh pair, lemon peel and a hint of green apple. Great acidity rounded by softer oak less, flavours of warmed butter and pastry dough. Integrated with a persistent finish. Drinking well now but will benefit from a few years of cellaring.!

! 8

! Closson Chase Vineyard Pinot Noir #14256 $44.97! As they start to dig their roots deeply into the remarkable limestone soils of Hillier, our Pinot Noir vines are offering better and better results, as this solid vintage demonstrates. The remarkable balance achieved in our 2010 Pinots, thanks to some well timed sunshine, is obvious from the get go as beautiful ripe cherry and floral aromas jump out of the glass, with some tobacco and earthy notes (mushrooms, autumn leaves), adding a touch of complexity. With its great depth and multilayered feel, this ripe and elegant pinot can be consumed now, by cellaring will show interesting evolution.

!

! The Brock Chardonnay 14533 $23.99! Rich and dense but well structured. More tropical in the fruit profile - melon and poached pear. Barrel contributes spice and burnt sugar. Balanced with a well integrated palate.

Ontario, Niagara Region - Henry of Pelham Winery www.henryofpelham.com

Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery was established in 1988 with the first vintage. At that time they were one of a very few estate wineries dedicated to producing premium quality wines made from 100% Ontario grown grapes. Their focus is on vinifera grape varieties.! Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery was a founding member of the Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA). The VQA is an “Appellation of Origin” system by which consumers can identify the wines of Ontario based on the origin of the grapes from which they are produced. Currently Available: Cuvee Catharine Brut (Sparkling Wine) #11040 $34.98! Named in memory of Henry’s wife, widow and family matriarch, Catharine Smith. Clonal selection and the use of traditional grape varieties (Chardonnay & Pinot Noir) makes this wine a modern Niagara expression of a time honoured wine style. The secondary fermentation is done in bottle and each wine is aged for approximately 24+ months on the lees before disgorging.

Ontario, Prince Edward County - Norman Hardie Winery www.normanhardie.com!

! ! ! ! ! ! Norman Hardie is one of a select few winemakers in the world who has mastered the art of tasting, growing and making wine in both Hemispheres and six wine regions around the world. In his early twenties he received his sommelier certification from the esteemed wine program at the University of Dijon in Burgundy and put his skills to work as a sommelier for Four Seasons Hotels for six years.! His insatiable thirst to master the art of winemaking led him on a six year journey apprenticing for the very best producers/winemakers of cool climate varieties in Burgundy, South Africa, Oregon, New Zealand and California. In 2003 he put roots down in Prince Edward County. In a few short years Norman Hardie winery has established itself as one of Canada's premier wineries. Norman Hardie Pinot Noir (Niagara) #12685 $45.32! Medium purple in the glass. Pretty floral, sandlewood, earth and raspberry aromas. Very youthful. Dry and light-bodied. Exquisitely elegant with tightly knit tannins bringing structure to the wine. Complex, medium long finish.! So expressive, pure and supple with red cherry and herb fruit and complex, fine, spicy notes. Real precision and elegance with a subtle meatiness under the silky cherry fruit. So supple and pure, with haunting perfume and real finesse. 95/100 - Jamie Goode

13

! Norman Hardie County Chardonnay #13544 $44.82! Vibrant and mineral driven. Aromas of fresh lemon and brioche on the nose (very reminiscent of our 2008 Matt Kramer wine of the year). Delicious and rich textural quality on the mid palate followed by a lean and sinuous long finish. 12.5% Alcohol. As far away from the over-oaked and low acid new world chardonnays as you will get. Food matches: lobster, risotto and pasta in a cream sauce. Suggested drinkability window: now to 2017.! Lovely hint of mineral matchstick character on the nose. There’s lovely apple, pear and white peach fruitiness here with some citrus freshness, as well as a hint of almond. Beautiful focus and balance here: it’s very fresh, but has some richer notes, yet avoids being austere. Much more presence and focus than many Niagara Chardonnays. 94/100 - Jamie Goode!

! ! ! Norman Hardie Riesling #12687 $31.60! This Riesling has a beautifully sweet nose of apple and peach with a touch of stony mineral. The palate really shows the mineral and adds a lovely green apple and lemon note along with some well-balanced acidity. There's great fruit to mineral balance.

California, Dry Creek Vineyard, www.drycreekvineyard.com!

The history of Dry Creek Vineyard is a long and colorful one. Founded in 1972 by David S. Stare, Dry Creek Vineyard paved the way for a renaissance of winemaking and viticulture in the Dry Creek Valley. Before his arrival, the Dry Creek Valley was little more than a few family farms and prune orchards. It was Dave’s vision to start a Loire Valley inspired winery, which triggered a viticultural reawakening in northern Sonoma County.! Without a doubt, David Stare is a pioneer. Heading west in the late 1960s, he personified the character and work ethic of early Gold Rush pioneers. Educated at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Dave worked for the B&O Railroad for several years but quickly realized that his true calling was in the wine industry. Inspired by his trips to the Loire Valley, he headed west to California to start his own family winery.!

Cahors, Clos la Coutale, www.closlacoutale.com!

! Where the climate, the soil, the vine-plants are ideally suited for the elaboration of a long lasting wine of fine quality. The Clos La Coutale, a 60 hectares estate spreads over a stretch of land on the alluvial floor of the valley amid the meanders of the river Lot. Its soil is particulary suitable for vines, for it contains gravels, silicates and limestone clays. Because of the lie of the land, facing south-west, the estate is sheltered from the cold winds that blow from the "Causse" region (an upland plateau), and consequently it enjoys a micro-climate which ensures that the vines and their fruit ripen fully early in the season. Currently Available:

! Clos la Coutale #10740 $18.99! Clos la Coutale wine is produced from Malbec (80%) and Merlot (20%) grapes. Vinification is carried out in thermo- controlled vats, and regular "pigeages'' (breaking-up of the layer formed on top of the juice) both ensure maximum extraction of the "bouquet" and the fruit. Clos la Coutale is then elaborated in oak barrels to obtain a full balance between the tannins and the fruit. Aromas of blueberry and mulberry, plus floral notes, while the mouth shows off some nice tannins and real elegance.! 88 Points - Wine Spectator (2009 Vintage)

! ! ! Burgundy, Olivier Leflaive, www.olivier-leflaive.com/en/!

Just after the First World War, Olivier’s grandfather, Joseph Leflaive was faced with the failure of his steel factory in Saint-Etienne. His son, Joseph RÊgis, was in insurance and along with his brother Vincent, decided to take over the reins in 1953. The estate soon began producing top-flight wines, mainly due to the arrival of air conditioning in Puligny in the 1970s. The spirit of continuous research in the vineyard, and afterwards in the cellar, plus passion, commitment and innovative dynamism are the firm bases that we combine with the pride of having reached the third generation of viticulturists. Our philosophy has not changed, however: we focus only on original varietals that are typical of our land, particularly Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, which make up about 85% of our production. All the grapes that we use come from the 38 hectares that we own. We are able, with the help of knowledgeable colleagues, to directly supervise the entire production cycle, from pruning to marketing of 250,000 bottles every year. Currently Available:! ! Pelissero “Munfrina Dolcetto d’Alba 2010 #12513 $21.99!
