Newsletter #3 School Roll
273 Kia ora Parents, Whanau, and Caregivers, The first few weeks of the school year can be very unsettling for some children. They may come home upset; they may say they do not like their new class. Some children do not want to go to school. Why is this? 1. Your child has moved from a teacher with whom they have developed a bond—a strong relationship—to a stranger! 2. They have to make new friends—and many of their old friends may be in a different class. 3. There are new routines and expectations in the new class. 4. School work may be academically more challenging. What can you do as a parent? 1. Talk to the new class teacher to ensure she or he knows your child is unsettled. 2. Explain to your child that you understand that they are unhappy, but insist they attend school. 3. Explain that change is difficult for anyone—kids and adults—but things get better with time. 4. Possibly spend some time in the classroom with them each morning for a week or two to help them settle. Naku noa ra, Nik House - Principal

Saturday 1st March, 6:30pm - 10pm The pressure is on and not many sleeps to go until we race for the coveted Trophy! Defending the title will be tough but I will try to fly like a Welcome Bay Learner and hopefully no one will be able to catch me ;) The evening is a special KIDS GO FREE night (free for 15 years and under). Adults are $20 (purchase at the gate). Principals Parade will begin at 6:15pm.
If you go onto www.sunlive.co.nz you can vote for Mr House. The principal with the most votes wins a 2015 Speedway Season’s pass that Mr House is happy to donate to the PTA so they can raffle it off and put the proceeds towards something for the children at school. So get voting! Tommy Kapai has written a song for the event with a paragraph dedicated to each school. A video clip of this will be on the SunLive website. There is also a prize for the best dressed school so we will have more information available about this, but perhaps an easy way to show support is for children to wear their school polo and we can add some other funky ideas to this.
