Happy New Year Y5! Spring Term 1 2012
Finding out about the Tudors Who is this? What can you find out about him?
This half term we will be learning about the monarchs of Tudor England. We will look at what happened during the war of the Roses between the House of York and the House of Tudor.
We will investigate the life of Henry vIII and why he had six wives! We will look at the lives of other Tudor kings and Queens including the 9 year old king and the Queen who burnt 300 people to death for being of the wrong religion!!
SEAL Our SEAL topic is about going for goals. This theme focuses on motivation and selfawareness. It gives an important opportunity for all children’s abilities, qualities and strengths to be valued. A plea for your junk!!! As part of our Tudor topic this term we will be designing and building Tudor houses. To help us please could you send any empty cereal boxes and small containers such as yogurt pots into school? We would also like to keep adding to our pile of old newspapers for when we are enjoying arty activities in the classroom.
Science In science we are looking at diet and keeping healthy e.g. what a balanced diet consists of, the importance of exercise and the dangers of tobacco and alcohol. We will also be looking at Tudor food and comparing their diet with our own.
P.E. This half term, we will be exploring dance and tennis in our PE sessions. Please make sure that your child has the correct P.E. kit here everyday. This should include a plain white T-shirt, black shorts and black pumps. Sometimes we would like to take the children outside to enjoy PE but we can only do this if all the children have jogging/track suit bottoms to keep warm.
In Literacy we will be studying persuasive writing (could you persuade someone to marry Henry VIII or persuade the executioner not to behead Anne Boleyn?!) We will be carrying on working with the non-negotiables and there is always a wide range of activities for your child to complete on the E-zone which will support them with their learning.
Happy new Year to you all! My name is Maddie Parkin and I am a final year Primary Education student at Sheffield Hallam University. Most of the children have already got to know me as I visited Monteney before Christmas several times. I will be completing my final year placement in year 5 and will be based on Y5KO but I will be teaching some of Miss Champion’s class for literacy and numeracy. I am really looking forward to this placement as we have got lots of exciting things planned! Please do not hesitate to come and talk to me if you have any comments or questions. I will be available in school before the bell rings and at the end of the day. With Very Best wishes, Miss Parkin.
We have seen a huge improvement in the number of children completing all their homework in the last half term! So well done! I wonder if this half term we can increase that number? We shall see...We also had some of the best Creative projects we have seen yet! So we look forward to seeing your Tudor projects! Both literacy and numeracy homework will be handed out on a Friday and must be
returned to school by the following Wednesday. We will continue to post homework on the E-zone for all the computer fans out there!
