Passionate parents, students and local politicians pleaded with trustees to save their rural schools, or build new ones during Thames Valley District School Board’s final Public Input Meeting held May 2-3. Five rural schools are under consideration of closure during the Elementary Pupil Accommodation Review (EPAR) process. “This review process was too short and parents and communities have worked hard to find alternative solutions. I’m asking you to listen to parents,” said Elgin-MiddlesexLondon MPP Jeff Yurek to trustees and senior administrative staff. He suggested splitting the EPAR process into two separate portions – allowing South Dorchester and Westminster Public Schools to close to create a new school in Belmont, while leaving the other schools status quo, something Central Elgin Mayor David Marr agreed with.
