Harrow-Balmoral Roos

HDFNL Finals Overcoming

HORSHAM 5381 5000

Harrow-Balmoral’s road to the finals Coach: Paul Cleaver

Roos in the finals. He will be well supported by veteran Mick Phelan, who continues to provide a strong target inside the forward 50. The Roos have enough goal-scoring options to post a winning score with Sam Brewer and Eric Guthrie at the big men’s feet and if they can produce an even spread of goal kickers then opposing defenders will find them hard to stop. Harrow-Balmoral looks a better side with Anthony Close in the key ruck position at the centre bounce. If Close can perform to his ability then it allows the Roos to play Quentin Willmott in a key defensive post and leave Phelan forward. At the feet of Close at the opening bounce should be Tim Austin. The newcomer this season is one tough nut and along with the raging Callum Hobbs and rover Will Plush, provides the Roos with a powerful midfield that is also capable of kicking goals. If you add the speed and skill of Guthrie into that equation then the Roos deserve to attract plenty of attention from opposition sides, and if they are on the day, can turn a game on its head in a matter of minutes.

iccups and injuries along with some poor kicking in front of goals is the story of HarrowBalmoral’s Horsham District football league season.

Total: Won 10. Lost 6. For 1799. Against 845. Points 40. Percentage 212.90.

The loss of Eric Guthrie and Jandre Slabbert to injuries during the season hurt the side as it struggled to maintain consistency both with its line-up and its form. Guthrie has been in brilliant form when on the park, while Slabbert provides the versatility the Roos so badly require. Poor kicking against Jeparit-Rainbow in round four and a narrow loss to Kalkee a few weeks later meant the Roos have been chasing their tails all year. But the outfit certainly has the talent to do some damage in the finals series, if everything clicks together. Hugh Douglas has made an impact in his first season but has only scored 15 goals against the other finalists this year. While he has managed big bags against the bottom sides, he needs to prove that he can do it against the best, which might just decide the fate of the
