KC scores major soccer wins with Youth & MLS All-Stars The Kansas City Chiefs are reporting to training camp, but soccer -- football in the world outside Canada and the U.S - dominates the Kansas City sports scene this weekend. The AT&T MLS All-Star Match on July 31, 8:30 p.m. at Sporting Park in Kansas City, KS A less publicized national event is happening in Overland Park. The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is underway at the Overland Park Soccer Complex. Competition started with more than 10,000 teams from US Youth Soccer's 55 State Associations the opportunity to showcase their abilities against the best in the nation. The winning 88 teams showcase the nation’s top players in under-13 through under-19 age groups for boys and girls. The yearlong event begins in 55 state associations with more than 185,000 players in 10,000 teams competing in state championships. State champions and selected wildcard teams advance to one of four regional contests. Regional winners advance to the National Championships. Kansas City, Kansas’ dynamic Sporting Park hosts the AT&T MLS All-Star Soccer Match on July 31st. The field, larger than any in the English Premier League, seats 18,467 for soccer with an additional 2,000 in Home Members Stand. The playing surface is Kentucky blue grass with a SubAir™ under-soil heating and cooling system. A few tickets were still available at press time.
Kansas City’s Boulevard Brewery Makes Great Beer; Offers Tours too! By Matthew Hunt
Bringing freshness and high quality beer to Kansas City has always been one brewery’s mission. Boulevard brewery began in 1988, when its founder John McDonald started construction of the brewery in a brick building on Kansas City’s historic Southwest Boulevard. Since being founded in 1989, Boulevard Brewing Company has grown to become the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest and offers numerous tours for visitors coming to Kansas City. The tours include public, private and the unfiltered tour, individuals who are under the age of 21 are not able to tour the unfiltered tour, but are able to tour the public and private tours offered. The public tour is free for the public and is a 45-minute walking tour of their production facility. Guests will learn
about the history of the company, the brewing process, and the approach to beer and business. Tickets for the tour can be picked up and called in on the day of the tour and it’s first come, first served. Private tours are mostly used by businesses, organizations, or other parties interested in an exclusive brewery experience. Travel the halls for the one and one-half hour private guided tour of the brewery’s production facility. The tour tells about the history of the company, the brewing process, and the philosophy behind their success. By the end of the tour, those who attend the private tour will have a chance to sample a variety of beers Boulevard Brewery has to offer. The Unfiltered tour is limited to 15 people per tour and offers a 90 minute, in-depth
experience. The tour includes a visit of the areas of the brewery which are off-limits to larger public tours. Participants get the opportunity to stop along the way for tastings of some of the most eclectic offerings, and receive a gift from Boulevard. The brewery also offers three unique and inviting spaces for special occasions with the most popular room being, the Tasting Room. This space is great for smaller gatherings up to 35 guests and includes the complete selection of Kansas City’s hometown beers. Rental includes a brewery tour, bartending staff, parking, tables and chairs, and audio/ visual capabilities. They’re located at 2501 Southwest Boulevard, Kansas City, MO.
