Council gives green light to 287 hectare Science Park at Luddenham he fight for more western Sydney jobs is one step closer to a win, with Penrith Council’s support of the proposed Sydney Science Park for Luddenham. The proposed 287 hectare park, to house science based businesses, tertiary institutions, research and development providers and feature both retail and residential components, has the planned potential to create 12,200 jobs and educate 10,000 students. In a unanimous decision at its meeting on Monday night, Council endorsed the planned proposal, which is now to be submitted to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure for Gateway reviews. “Th is particular planned proposal before us is visionary, innovative and is going to create a generation of opportunity for the people of western Sydney and more particularly the people of Penrith,” said councillor Bernard Bratusa. “If you compare the numbers proposed under this development, the Sydney Science Park will generate up to 30 per cent more jobs than Maquarie Park and 100 per cent more jobs than Norwest Business Park.” It was not just the amount of new jobs that pleased councillors at the fi rst Council meeting of 2014 on Monday night, but also the variety of jobs proposed. “We know that with many of these knowledge jobs, or high end jobs, that there is a multiplying factor – sometimes up to seven other jobs or employees are employed around those professionals, so this is a great

opportunity for Penrith,” Councillor Mark Davies said. “I just wanted to highlight the aspect of making that shift, that change to bringing
