I admit it. I love food. I tried a diet once or twice. Maybe even three times. Didn’t like it. Choose not to ever try it again. I’ve learned, however, that eating healthy is a different topic entirely. I feel better and I’m happier when I make wise choices about what I eat. That doesn’t mean I can’t go and have loads of fun with the rest of them while doing so. This month’s special feature is “Fabulous Foodie Fun. And believe me, there are some fantastic food - related destinations across the state. Any time you can blend a meal with another activity, you’ve got double the fun. Right? For instance, have you ever tasted Japanese beef? Get ready because we can do it in Roanoke, outside of Ft. Wayne. Shown on the cover, see page 10 for details. Now what in the world is a “moveable” feast? Eating on the run (or walk) Take an Indy Indie Food Tour to learn about the latest at a number of restaurants in one evening. It’s harvest time in Ohio and time for celebrations. Festivals named after the produce are as numerous as the alphabet. To name only a few, there is the Candied Apple Festival (P. 18), Wine & Cheese Festival (P. 9) and Blueberry Festival (P. 21) All have scheduled fun activities for members of the whole family to enjoy while eating the delicious fruits of the farmer’s labor. Even if a festival isn’t named after a food, there’s sure to be delicious entrees served at the gathering. After all, what is a festival or fair without cotton candy, elephant ears, a corndog or a candied apple?

And while you’re having fun, you’ll be helping the farm raise money for the Traders Point polkaboy2Rural Historic District, a nonprofit organization that protects green space around Eagle Creek for the enjoyment of generations to come. An additional 2,600 acres have been added to the National Register of Historic Places with the help of our Oktoberfest. This rare honor is only the third rural historic district to be named in Indiana. The fundraisr has donated over $120,000 to the Traders Point Rural Historic Districts in the last 8 years. Tickets are $10, $8 in advance with children 10 and under free. *Note: The Loft Restaurant will be closed for Lunch and Dinner on October 10th to accommodate the Oktoberfest festivities
