Hills are often crowned with a fort or a temple. And when we visit these hills, they not only serve the purpose of pilgrimage or archaeology but also afford some scenic surroundings amidst nature which leaves us fresh and relaxed.

The temple here is dedicated to Lord Ranganatha. The outer walls are adorned with colorfully painted figures from the epics. Inside the sanctum is a large bow which has a legend. Long time ago a group of devotees

Some of these hills

are lesser known and as such and it would be interesting to explore them! The hill now in focus is Maradi Gudda, off the NH 4 near Sira. Situated on Bukkapatna road to the West from Sira at about 140 kms it seems a bit too far. But the beautiful road makes it less tiring and quick!

carrying the bow and arrow (made of iron) to the hill rested a while. On resuming it could not be lifted even by all of them. When a small boy wearing a nama on forehead offered to help he was laughed at! But to everyone’s surprise he took it up, went inside the temple and disappeared.

As such the bow is revered as an embodiment of God and worshipped. As you approach this moderately During April, an annual fair is held here high hill…the tiny looking temple becomes with pomp and gaiety! visible and to the west of this temple is a large tank. There are many places to rest and have food, but getting into waters is Getting there: Proceed on NH 4 up to Sira & drive left (Bukkapatna Road) for not advisable. 13 kms to an arch…then turn left and the By evening, the rays of setting sun cast top of Maradi Gudda is only 6 kms. Buses also ply from Sira to this place. Food and a golden glow on the lake and valley! water to be carried. B V Prakash bv.prakash@yahoo.com
