Tribal Jewelry

If you love being a woman and like to pamper yourself then is the ideal store for you!

In these modern day’s…world has became very small. And, a good sign is that Indian jewelry has crossed many a border with aplomb! But, machine made jewelry is yet to reach inner parts of rural India!

Imperial Tobacco

In practice, goldsmiths get orders directly from customers for individual articles which can be costly due to casting. In ancient India, each village had artisans who were self dependent for their daily requirements. This tradition is still continuing in the rural India. Goldsmiths, working there since generations, are still working independently without any help. Their tools are simple, basic and locally made. As India is vast country, there are lots of tribal groups in various parts. Each group has its traditional jewelry and dresses. The Gujjar tribes of Kashmir, Gaundaa of Andhra, Nagas of Assam, Bhill and other shepherd tribes of Gujarat are few of them whose designs are exquisite!

The goldsmiths making tribal jewelry are working in the villages with their traditional knowledge, techniques and skills with locally made basic tools. However their skill and ability in creating designs in this jewelry are superb, which have attracted the modern fashion designers of this world! The traditional skill and technical knowledge of making jewelry, that they posses have been inherited from their forefathers. They know that if the black layer surfaced on the gold in the crucible during the process of melting , gold will either take long time to melt or will not melt at all. They know its solution but don’t know the reason!

They also know that if gold is hammered out for long time in cold condition, it will develop cracks or will break. They know that to avoid this, gold has to be annealed time to time during the working but don’t know why it happens. If only they can be trained in new techniques and use of machineries, they can be a great asset and advantage to all of us! P G Narasinga Rao, P Gopal Rao & Sons, Kasturi Nagar Ph: 2542 8801
