Real Wedding From the bride: WHY DURANGO We wanted a small wedding in the mountains in the early fall. We love hiking, camping and biking and found Durango to be a good mix of secluded outdoors with modern conveniences. John and I talked a lot about having a wedding that was really a huge get together with our friends and family, and we would just happen to get married. We wanted to be surrounded by love when we celebrated our love. BEFORE THE CEREMONY We had no idea that our wedding weekend would correspond to the weekend ranchers typically brought sheep down from the high country. It was a bit of a hiccup as a few people were delayed, but it was pretty cool to say I stood in my bridal leggings (also a great thing) with a glass of champagne surrounded by people I love, while watching sheep come down the mountain. That doesn’t happen everyday. MEMORABLE MOMENT One of the biggest moments was walking down the aisle with my dad. Almost one year to the date of our wedding, my father was diagnosed with a severe case of necrotizing fasciitis, which caused him to lose his leg and almost his life. There were times last year when we questioned if he would be alive, let alone able to walk me down the aisle. After months of therapy and his extreme stubbornness, I met him on the other side of the bridge. I had the perfect moment that little girls dream of, my daddy walking me down the aisle to the man of my dreams. 22
