To my darling Archana... The day has finally come! I would have never thought, walking into a bar to get a pizza would change my life forever. But, since that day that I first met you, it has been a wild and amazing adventure. Love you with my heart, soul and all my passion. Yours forever, Diego

05 | WEDDING EDITORIALIST

My Diego, It’s finally here - our wedding day! I am filled with joy and awe. There is no one on Earth who could possibly be as happy as I am, and it’s all because of you. When I think back to when and how we first met, I smile such a silly smile! Who would have ever thought that picking up a pizza would find me madly in love with a most wonderful man? I will always love pizza!   You and I have been through some things that a lot of people would have had trouble with. The deployments, the waiting, the fears and frustrations have all made us become closer and stronger. I think it is true that what doesn’t break you, makes you. I love what it had made us!   We have so many things in common and I am confident that this list will only grow as we travel through life together....and how I look forward to this journey! I treasure you! I treasure all that you are and all that you have yet to become; I treasure your sweetness and your kind and generous heart. How did I ever get so darn lucky?   I wish so many things for us and our life together. I wish for harmony and a sense of honor for each other’s wishes and desires even when they do not match, for even though we are so strongly a “we,” each of us is a singular being also. Help me not to forget this.   But first, our magical day is upon us. There will be vows to honor, dances to dance, tears of joy to cry, toasts to be made, cake to cut, smiles to smile, and most importantly -  love to celebrate.   Here we go, on a journey of a lifetime! A lifetime is definitely not long enough with you - but it’s a start. Here’s to our beautiful future where I will love, cherish and respect you always and forever.   Love, Arch (a.k.a babe)... and Benji too!

ARCHANA MEETS DIEGO Photography by J.Anne Photography

Archana met Diego at her neighborhood pub and pizzeria. An avid pizza lover, Archana had been running errands that afternoon and decided to grab a carry out pie before heading home. While having a drink at the bar, she suddenly noticed the most beautiful and artistic tattoos on the arm of the person sitting next to her. It was Diego, who had noticed her from across the room. He had moved closer with the intention of speaking of her. Before he could make his move, Archana reached out, grabbed Diego’s arm, and asked him about his ink. They started talking, and suddenly that take out box was opened, drinks were poured, and day turned to night as they sat together for hours. Not wanting the evening to end, and knowing that they had something special, Archana and Diego decided to go see a cover band play at a venue close by. They danced the night

away, laughing, sharing stories, and getting to know one another. Before they parted ways, Archana was hoping that he would ask to see her again - which he did! Later that week they went on their first “official date and they have been inseparable ever since! Strange how a chance meeting at a bar that they had both been regulars at for years changed their lives forever. Timing is truly everything, and while it may have taken a while for their paths to cross, they now have a lifetime to spend together.

HOW HE ASKED Photography by Stephen Salazar

As their whirlwind romance continued on, Archana began planning a business trip to Las Vegas. She invited Diego to join her, and in November of 2016 the two found themselves alone on a quick vacation just ahead of Diego’s upcoming deployment.

Dessert appeared. Suddenly, Diego dropped down on one knee. In his hand he held a beautiful princess cut engagement ring. He proposed, leaving Archana speechless. Being the romantic that he is, Diego exclaimed, “You better say yes”.

On November 9th, Diego made dinner reservations at Julian Serrano’s Lago at Bellagio. The two took their seats on the patio, enjoying the water ballet of the fountain show, and dining on the most amazing food they had ever been served. After dinner, they relaxed in the moonlight, enjoying cocktails, talking, laughing just having a great time.

Finally, she laughed. Then of course she said yes!

WEDDING PLANNING Photography by Stephen Salazar

Archana and Diego have always been in love with Las Vegas, but planning a destination wedding while Diego was on the road and Archana was busy with a full time job became a challenge! The two wanted to make sure that every detail was absolutely perfect, and they needed someone to walk them through the process. Archana said, “Finding Andrea made everything real! From the first time we spoke on the phone she seemed to know exactly what I wanted, even when I didn’t know how to ask for it!” With just under a year to plan, Archana and Andrea started first with the overall design concept. Knowing that Archana and Diego wanted something very dramatic and romantic, they settled on a black and red color palette. “There is so much blush and ivory out there, and it is all so beautiful, but with Archana’s Indian heritage and Diego’s Latino culture, I really felt that these two needed color and passion! We connected with my local partners at Destinations by Design, and together we brought to life a stunning display of deep red roses, dark, sexy black textures, dripping crystals, and flashes of metallic gold.” Archana and Diego were open to working with vendors from around the country, bringing together a number of different styles. “Our stationery designer, Tifany from Gourmet Invitations is based in Michigan. Our photographer, Jodi Ann, has this beautiful bright eye that gives every photo a sense of romance, while our videography team from Stephen Salazar shows a more sultry side of our personalities. Even our DJ, Mike Fox, is unique in that he comes from London.” Archana loved the idea of bringing together multiple personalities, believing that “having a great mix of people felt right” at a wedding that was going to blend so many personalities and cultures. Archana and Diego look forward to spending their wedding weekend surrounded by those they love most, in what can only be described as one of the most elegant venues in the world, The Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas.

THE INDIAN WEDDING Photography by J.Anne Photography

To honor the bride’s culture and religion, Archana & her sister, Bhavna, planned an Indian wedding ceremony in Bhavna’s hometown Huntsville, Alabama. Visiting Bhavna and her husband Sudheer, always reminded Archana of her childhood, and made her feel as if she was back home in India with her parents. There was no other place that she would have chosen to have her Indian ceremony. The Indian ceremony was a two day extravaganza. Diego and Archana were amidst their friends and family who had come from India, Colombia and from all over the United States to celebrate their love. The first day of their celebration began with the worshipping of the Goddess Gowri and a purifying turmeric ceremony for the couple. Later that evening, Archana indulged in a traditional henna ceremony during which all the ladies got beautiful, intricate henna designs on their hands. The night ended with dance 17 | WEDDING EDITORIALIST

performances and skits from their families, followed by cocktails & dinner. Celebrations continued on the next day, when Archana and Diego finally were married, taking the Sacred 7 Vows of the Hindu religion. Archana wore a traditional white and red saree, while Diego wore a traditional Sherwani suit. Immediately following the ceremony, our couple changed for an evening of festivities. Archana sparkled in a pink and gold lehenga. Even our groom changed, and looked dapper in a black and gold Indian suit. The couple were treated to wedding celebration including Bollywood dancing, drinks and a traditional dinner before heading back to Las Vegas to celebrate with the Western Wedding of their dreams.

DETAILS Every decision Archana and Diego made throughout the wedding planning process tells us a bit more about who they are as a couple. It’s all of these little things that come together to tell us a story. Their sartorial choices establish a sense of style and direction. The bride’s shoes, or the belt buckle of the groom. As we move onto things like bouquets, fabrics, accent lighting, and locations the picture becomes clear. The details become a guest at the wedding, just as we are, telling the story of this one moment in time. They are beautiful, but it is the meaning behind them that we treasure.

THE BRIDE They say that every bride is beautiful, and while we could not agree more, there was something even more special about Archana on the day of her wedding. It goes beyond the dress, beyond the shoes and the jewels. It’s something in her eyes. A combination of excitement, but also a true and deep contentment in knowing she is exactly where she should be, marrying the very person she should be with.

THE GROOM Many men admit to having a few nerves on their wedding day, but if Diego had any, you would never know. When a man gets married, he takes on a new power, but he also becomes more vulnerable. Here, we see him at his best. Hopeful, determined, a bit nervous, and completely in love with Archana.

THE COUPLE You know that feeling of being in a crowd, but feeling as if you are the only two people in the world? On their wedding day, Archana & Diego looked like that in every photo taken of them. The quiet moments alone, during their wedding vows, and celebrating afterwards; they needed nothing more than each other.

THE WEDDING & RECEPTION Archana and Diego knew they wanted to get married in Las Vegas after getting engaged while dining on the Fountains of Bellagio. A proposal like that demanded that an equally elegant and oh so glamorous wedding would follow, and the two set their sites on the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas. Planning a destination wedding can be a daunting task, which is why the Mandarin Oriental recommended that Archana work with a wedding planner. The moment she connected with Andrea Eppolito was pure was pure magic. “She immediately got inside my head, and was able to cut through all of my thoughts and pull out exactly what I wanted.” On the day of their wedding, the ballroom doors opened to reveal all that her heart desired. Tall, dramatic bundles of roses lined the aisle, which was crafted from sleek, black enamel. At the top of the space a circular stage was enveloped in crystals strung from the ceiling. Their vows were deeply personal, and spoke to their initial meeting, their courtship, and the life they planned to build together. The crystal fall was Archana’s most beloved design element, and we designed the space to allow her to enjoy it all night long. With the crystals serving as the room’s anchor, we used it as the backdrop for the newlywed’s sweetheart table. Just in front of them we placed a glamorous black dance floor enhanced with painted red roses, and we lit it from above. The perimeter of the room was full of the people they love most in the world. To keep the space interesting, we used tables of different shapes and sizes, and filled the room with both high and low centerpieces. Each table was slightly different from the next, but all dressed in gilded linens. On top, metallic glass chargers gave way to clusters of candlelight. The red roses, a long time favorite of the couple, brought in the dynamic pops of color my bride so loved. And in the back, for an extra touch of drama, sat a beautiful black wedding cake trimmed in a floral wrap. The bridal party burst into the room to the sounds of Pitbull before Archana and Deigo took to the floor and shared their first dance to the eternally classic love song “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by The Four Seasons. As a surprise to her guests, and in honor of her heritage, Archana changed into a bronze saree just moments before the newlyweds cut their cake. While some guests took advantage of the photo booth set up by Joy Squad, others flocked to the dance floor. DJ Mike Fox spun a mix of western Top 40 songs with contemporary Indian music, a recipe guaranteed to keep them moving until the very last drink was served! And yet the party didn’t end there! Afterwards, many of their cousins and friends took to the strip for gaming and dancing, cocktails and celebrations.

BLACK & WHITES Black and white photography is a lost art. When you remove the color and focus on the gray tones, you will find life in other ways. Perhaps you begin to focus on the sharp lines and contrast of the space. Other times, a blur of motion can really bring a pulls you into it, allowing you to relive the moment. In all cases, black and white images carry with them a timeless weight. They evoke the past, yet are still clean and modern. Our newlyweds will cherish these images for all :me, and they will be beloved from generation to generation.
