Climbing, and in fact anything done at the extremes, has a way of showing us how big and vast our possibilities are, and at the same time reminding us that we are mere specs on the planet. As we dangle from our finger tips, or surf on a fast, turbulent river, or rappel into a deepening void, the worry of danger is left for those not on our adventure. We possess instead a daunting sense of awesomeness – awesome surroundings, awesome space, and awesome power. There is a similar sense of awe and responsibility at the prospect of developing products that keep people safe in these exciting and sometimes epic spaces. It stirs the inventive soul of our whole company. And, it keeps us humble. We are constantly drawn to the edge of creativity and technology, while standing solidly on the ground of quality and care. At Sterling Rope, we love what we do and take pride in how we do it. We’re Mainers; craftsmen and women, outdoor enthusiasts who climb, rappel, paddle, sail, fish, hike, ski, board and surf. We design the products we make, and we make the products we use. And because we want you to have the best adventures of your life when you use our products, we make the best products for life-safety. As with all great Maine traditions, ours starts with an adventure and ends with a story. For almost twenty years now, people who have used our ropes, cord and gear to explore, work or train in the vertical world have told the Sterling Story. It is a story of innovative rope constructions and creative new products that handle superbly and offer unparalleled durability. It’s the story of taking people to places they didn’t know they could go, and bringing them home again. It’s Sterling Ropes: the best story in life-safety.

Only Sterling dynamic ropes have the unique feature, DryCore™, as standard construction. DryCore is our innovative and proprietary process of treating the core yarns to reduce yarn-on-yarn abrasion and moisture absorption. The core provides the strength and power of your rope. If your rope gets wet, it loses critical strength and elongation will increase. In fact, tests have shown that a wet rope without DryCore can lose up to 30% of its strength. Sterling ropes with DryCore stay strong.

ION2™ The Ion2 is well-suited for climbers who want great performance, durability and light weight along with the peace of mind that comes from using a mid-range, skinny rope. Its unique core design and eyecatching sheath construction are just a few of the proprietary technical elements that have made the Ion2 the envy of climbers at the crag.

These are the ropes that launched Sterling back in 1993. Since then, the Evolution Series have ranked among the best-selling ropes on the market. The sheath and core construction of Evolution ropes were engineered for the ideal balance of low impact force, lightweight and durability. The smooth, high-twist sheath produces less drag through gear and over rock, allowing for easy clipping and extensive use. Tested worldwide under extreme conditions, these ropes continue to prove to be the right rope for any climb.

Velocity™ This is our quintessential rope and a great performer across all disciplines. When we designed the Velocity, we wanted a rope that excelled on rock and ice; a flagship rope that would live up to the Sterling name. Favored by world renowned Sterling Rope Athlete, Chris Sharma to work routes, it is also offered in the “Sharma Signature” edition. The Velocity is all the rope you need.

Our Marathon ropes are designed specifically to be bomber, long lasting durable ropes for extensive use. In fact, we originally built this series for guides because of the rigorous use their ropes have to endure. All ropes in the Marathon series have 50% more denier in the sheath for superior abrasion resistance, while maintaining a supple hand to provide superior performance. Making durable ropes that outperform your expectations, and outlast your climbing workout is not only our trademark, but is what separates Sterling Rope from all others.

Pro™ Are you pushing that elusive project and need a workhorse rope to get your there? Take the Marathon Pro. The thinnest of the Marathon series, the Pro offers the best balance of increased longevity without tipping the scales on excess weight. The improved abrasion resistance on rough rock adds peace of mind when exposed to sharp edges and flakes.

Diameter: Type: Elongation: Falls: Weight:

0120 Sterling Rope spent years researching and testing various coatings and processes to greatly improve our rope dry treatment. The result was the development of DryCoat™, our own proprietary coating and dry process. Studies have shown that wet ropes are more difficult to handle, elongation increases and their performance can change dramatically. DryCoat protects the rope from water absorption, keeping your rope strong, eliminating weight increase, the risk of freezing, and slowing the wear of rope considerably.

Tag Lines “Tag line”, “pull cord”, “rap line” – this versatile cord has been called just about everything. There are times when you only want to carry a single rope on a climb, but if the rappels are long, having a second rope makes a full length rappel possible. These small, lightweight cords are offered in three sizes to fit your need and experience level. Using tag lines is a technique for advanced climbers and takes proper training on how to safely use them. Tag lines are not to be used for lead climbing.

Gym Series Indoor climbing gyms and artificial walls present a difficult challenge for rope. Not only is there high volume of use, impact from falls, and constant lowering, but there are also many different wall surfaces, angles and anchoring systems that play a part in rope wear. As the first to the market a gym specific dynamic rope, we have witnessed the evolution from plywood walls and chain anchors to modular textured surfaces and 80-ft routes. Because of our experience here, our gym rope constructions feature more yarn in the sheath for added durability and are designed to stay supple and perform well.

Sterling Rope proudly has been The Official Rope Sponsor of USA Climbing since the organization was founded.

Slim Gym™ 10.1mm Rock Gym™ 10.4mm

Big Gym™

Slim Gym is the ultimate in thin diameter, durable gym rope. On indoor routes, the 10.1 diameter makes this rope slide effortlessly through protection and over anchors, while still being easily managed in a variety of belay devices.

The undisputed heavy-weight champion gym rope, the Big Gym can withstand whatever you throw at it. The thicker diameter allows it to take repeated abuse while remaining supple. The Big Gym is not to be underestimated.

HTP Static™

Sterling’s HTP, High Tenacity Polyester, ropes are 100% polyester and offer significant advantages over mixed fiber static ropes. HTP delivers better overall performance having high strength, and extremely low stretch. With less stretch, the HTP is a highly efficient rope for ascension, rigging, wet rappels and high angle rescue situations. Polyester also has a natural resistance to moisture, UV and certain chemicals making it less conductive to electricity and able to perform better in areas of harsh environments than mixed fiber ropes. Warning: HTP should never be used in situations where any potential for shock loading (fall) may occur. It will result in very high impact forces. In these situations, a nylon static or dynamic rope would be more appropriate.

9mm

3/8” (10mm)

7/16” (11mm)

The 9mm is a lightweight static rope with high strength and very low elongation. This makes it versatile in any number of situations such as light and fast haul systems, canyoneering rappel lines, anchors and rigging.

The efficient size of the 3/8” offers the strength and durability of a larger diameter with the supreme handling characteristics that you’ve come to expect from the HTP series. The 3/8” HTP is great for demanding activities like jugging, building z-drags and Tyroleans.

Our 7/16” HTP is engineered to provide the utmost performance, lowest stretch, and best durability in a variety of vertical situations. When you need a high strength, ultra low elongation rope for heavy rigging and high tension systems, the 7/16” HTP will deliver.

AT S™

SR Rig Pla t e

Designed and developed by Sterling Rope and Alpine Training Services, the ATS is a versatile, lightweight rappel device. The curved frame allows it to be used with a wide range of rope diameters for both single and double rope rappelling techniques. The patented design of the ATS, with its four hyper horns, allows the user to add friction middescent and lock off the rope. The heat-rated grommet insert keeps the device oriented correctly to help prevent cross-loading of your carabiner. The ATS is truly a universal rope control tool.

The SR Plate is designed to easily organize your work area and provide multiple anchor points. Engineered using 6061 aluminum, the SR Plate offers high tensile strength while minimizing weight. The SR Plate features five teardropshaped connection points that help center carabiners within each hole and keep multiple carabiners from overcrowding a central spot. The SR Rig Plate is ideal for facilitating an efficient and organized rigging system. Certified to NFPA 1983 (G).

SR Sw iv el

R8 ™

The SR Swivel eliminates line twisting when positioned between the rope and the load. The larger round hole accepts up to three carabiners, providing multiple rigging options. Made from high quality 2024 aluminum, the SR Swivel is lightweight, strong and is certified to NFPA 1983 (G) with a 36kN rating. High strength stainless steel axles and sealed ball bearings will keep the swivel operating smoothly for years.

The Sterling Rope R8 is larger than a standard figure-8 rappel device to help dissipate heat better and work well with larger diameter ropes. The “ears” or “horns” of the R8 provide additional friction on the rope when rappelling or lowering heavier loads and also can be used as a tie-off.

Se wn C or d Sterling Rope was the first rope company to offer sewn prusiks, and since their inception, we have continued to expand our sewn cord product line. Sewn cord and prusiks offer a sleek, low profile alternative to cords with knots, which can be cumbersome and bulky. Sterling has invested greatly over the years in modern computerized sewing machines that optimize bar tacking to be consistent and of high strength and quality. Sewn bar tacks on rope and cord are stronger than knots because rope-on-rope friction and bending of the fibers are eliminated. Sterling offers many different types of sewn cord, prusiks and lanyards in multiple lengths to expand your safety options in the vertical world. We offer sewn terminations on cord sizes from 5mm up through 9mm, and on rope up to 5/8” diameters. Our products are tested in-house using 3-Sigma calculations and are also certified by third-party authorized organizations to the applicable standards.

Auto Block

Hollow Block™

The Auto Block attaches as a prusik or Klemheist from the harness to the brake-hand end of the rappel rope, just past the rappel device. Perfect as a backup while on long rappels. 6mm x 13.5" sewn in a standard loop.

The Hollow Block is made from our aramid fiber, hollow braid RIT 900™ cord and offered in 13.5”or 19” sewn cord sling. The cord construction allows the Hollow Block to grab the rope well when used as a prusik or Klemheist, on ropes 6mm and larger.

Prusiks

RIT Eye-to-Eye

Purcells

The RIT 8mm and 9mm Eye-to-Eye “split tails” are made from our high performing, heat resistant RIT 500™ and RIT Response™ cords. Extensively field tested by professional canyon guides and arborists, these cords provide even and consistent friction. The ‘bulkfree’ sewn terminations and optimal cord lengths make it easy when tying your preferred hitch. The RIT 9mm Eye-to-Eye is available in a 36” length and the RIT 8mm Eye-to-Eye in a 30” length.

Our purcells are sewn 6mm Prusik cord in three different lengths. The longer prusiks are perfect for emergency 2- or 3-point ascending, as an adjustable, personal connection point, or as a selfbelay. Available in color-coded lengths for easy identification: “Long” (68” Orange), “Short” (42” Green) and “Chest” (20” Blue) lengths.

Unique sewn and Bound Loop Prusiks are Sterling originals developed back in 1999, with changes made to the cord construction to improve handling along the way. Our 8mm Prusik cord was designed specifically with the proper rope grabbing characteristics required for good rope management. In a dynamic event, the bound loop feature keeps the loop on the strong spine of the carabiner, preventing an accidental jam on the plate of the pulley. Our optimized tack stitching is covered with shrink tube for protection and inspection. Sewn into either a 16” or 22” bound loop, these Prusik cords work best with our Prusik Minding Pulleys.

The SafetyPro lanyard features the 10.5mm SafetyPro rope, and sewn eyes on each end to provide a secure, static positioning option. Available in 60cm, 80cm and 1m lengths.

The Y-Knot lanyards are offered as either a twin-leg or offset lanyard using the 10.5mm Safety Pro. These lanyards allow for climbing past intermediate anchor points while remaining attached to the system. Available in Long (1m), Short (65cm), Offset (65/100cm).

1” Mil-Spec The standard in 1” tubular nylon webbing is favored for its versatility and use in slings, anchor systems, and hasty harnesses. Sterling’s webbing offers exceptional abrasion resistance and excellent knotability.

1” TechTape™ TechTape is our premium 1” nylon webbing and features a smooth, denser weave, and a higher tensile strength than standard webbing.

We bbi ng Webbing is an essential piece of gear because it can be used in many different applications due to its strength-to compression ratio. Webbing is frequently used for sewn slings, to construct anchors, or even make gear loops. Sterling Rope offers a full line of webbing products for climbing, rescue, industrial and utility applications. Nylon webbing is offered in tubular and flat constructions, on spools or as sewn slings and runners. We also offer Dyneema sewn slings and runners. All of Sterling’s webbing products meet the same precise standards as our rope, since they too are integral to many life-safety systems.

11/16” Tubular Premium nylon tubular webbing features high tensile strength in a thinner web. Great for use in slings.

1” Flat Both the Type 18 and 9800 webbing are extremely high tensile, and very durable webbing. Type 18 has a 6000 lb MBS, and the 9800 has a 9800lb break strength. 9800

Sterling Rope is a certified ISO 9001 company and all of our certified products must pass third-party testing to the standards we identify. Sterling also maintains a rigorous in-house testing program. All minimum break strength (MBS) numbers listed here are from 3-Sigma MBS test results or are listed at the minimum requirement of the corresponding standard. We do not list average breaking strengths. A 3Sigma MBS is based on a statistical analysis of the breaking strength of a product. The MBS is reported at three standard deviations below the average breaking strength. Safe Working Load (SWL) is the designated maximum working load for a piece of equipment or system based off a pre-determined safety margin and the minimum breaking strength of the equipment. Agencies and/or users should establish their own SWL guidelines for individual components and for rigged systems. The specifications listed here are believed to be correct at time of printing. We reserve the right to make modifications or corrections. For the most up to date technical specifications please contact us or visit www.sterlingrope.com

NO-HASSLE POLICY We guarantee our ropes to be free of defects, under normal wear and tear and proper use. Ropes, however, do not last forever. Climbing and technical rope work exposes ropes to abrasion, fatigue, sunlight, and constant loading. Severe falls, lack of protection over an edge, exposure to excessive temperatures, chemicals or improper use will shorten the life span of any rope. These scenarios, while unusual, point to the importance of checking and protecting your rope. Sterling reserves the right to inspect your rope before replacing it or refunding your money. Sterling is committed to supporting you to enhance your overall experience with each Sterling product. This dedication to excellence has awarded Sterling Rope the highest rating in customer service.
