Both these place names were given to areas in the Ourimbah Creek Valley during the timber getting era of the 1870’s onward. As the names indicate, the areas had many of the local palm trees (Cabbage Tree and Bangalow) growing there. Palmdale Road leaves the Pacific Highway, crosses Ourimbah Creek and follows Panda Drop Down Creek to the point where two valleys join. Just prior to this point is the old Palmdale Homestead. At the junction is the one time home of the late Australian Author, S. Y. Twins. Palmgrove is situated in Ourimbah Creek Road which follows Ourimbah Creek towards the head waters. It is situated west of Bumble Creek which drains the area of Kendall Glen and the northern slopes of Somersby. As the population of the Central Coast nears its projected half million mark, these areas with the other hinterland areas of the Wyong River and Ourimbah Creek drainage basis are sure to assume uncreasing importance and value. It may also be noted that just to the south of the junction of Pacific Highway and Palmdale Road the creek that enters Ourimbah Creek on the eastern side is known as Bangalow Creek named for the Bangalow palms which are still to be seen growing in the area. Bangalow Creek drained that part of the 2560 grant to J. B. Manning, which for a period in the 1835 – 1862 period was developed and looked after by Arthur Wilcox Manning whose history was even more sensational than that of his father or his more famous brothers, Fox William Montague Manning and Edye Manning. In the 1870’s the whole of the Palmdale Bangalow Creek area became part of the huge estate of the Sydney Solicitor, Henry Heron who had married the authoress daughter of F. M. M. Manning.
