Genuine one-owner ... 10 Beresford Parade, Kingsgrove.

First time offered by original owners NUMBER 10 Beresford Parade, Kingsgrove, was offered for the first time in 60 years when it went to auction yesterday with a price guide of $750,000-plus, through Romeo Safetly, of PRD Nationwide Bexley North. Built in 1950, the well-cared-for home is still held by the original owners. Set on 515 sq m, it has elevated views, four bedrooms and a single garage. Sold for $781,000. Families were interested in a new home at 2 Shipwright Place, Oyster Bay, which was auctioned yesterday with buyer feedback at about $1.2 million. Listed through Chris Walsh, of Newton Real Estate, the house has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and double parking. It is set on 912 sq m, over two levels, with a north-facing back garden. Sold for $1.38 million.

NATHAN and Vanessa Watson bought 46a Bruce Street in Bexley 13 years ago for $249,000, planning to set up a home for several years – then move on. The fact their intended time there roughly doubled is testament to the comfortable lifestyle the suburb provided. The property sold for $681,000 at auction yesterday, well above the guide of more than $570,000. The Watsons updated and restored the semi, which was originally part of one home that was split into two 20 years ago. The twobedroom, one-bathroom property sits at the Carlton end of Bexley. With two sons aged nine and six, the family recently decided it was time to upsize. ‘‘We’re very sad to leave, we love this place and stayed longer than expected, but it’s just time to find something bigger for the boys,’’ Mrs Watson said. The home has original, high ornate ceilings, rich oregon timber finishings, jarrah floorboards and original fireplaces. With off-street parking, and Carlton Public School and a child-friendly park within walking distance, the Watsons said it was a great place to bring up a young family. More than 60 people meandered through the home just before yesterday’s auction. During weekly inspections, more than 120 groups saw the house and 15 contracts were given out.

Little gem ... the Watson family’s semi at 46a Bruce Street, Bexley, goes under the hammer yesterday. Within 10 minutes it had risen to $677,000, then went to $680,000. All the while, bidder Peter Hutchings kept the competition strong and finally won with his bid of $681,000. Mr Hutchings, of Kingsgrove, knows the St George area. But he said he was originally looking to buy around Marrickville.

‘‘I wasn’t particularly looking for long – this was our first serious attempt at purchasing a house,’’ he said. He is looking forward to moving in with his 12-year-old son, Marcel, and his partner, Linda Mudronja, soon. The median price in Bexley in the 12 months to May for houses was $618,000, with an auction clearance rate of 59.6 per cent.
