WELCOME & MEET THE TEAM

Thank you to customers old and new for joining us from the comfort of your home to enjoy the highest rated racing that Wolverhampton has to offer and thank you to the sponsors of today’s races and the All Weather Championships, Betway, Bombadier and Ladbrokes. Taking place on a Saturday afternoon in March each year, Lady Wulfruna Day hosts the feature race the ‘Lady Wulfruna Stakes’, a Listed event worth £50,000, run over seven furlongs. The Lady Wulfruna Stakes itself has been won in previous years by horses such as Air Mail, Border Music, Dunelight and Above The Rest who had previously taken the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle on the same Tapeta surface. Last year’s winning Jockey Ryan Moore had success for Trainer Richard Hannon with Urban Icon and are fielding Mum’s Tipple this year which may just be a lucky omen being Mother’s Day the following day! This feature date in the Wolverhampton calendar hosts a further 8 great races, including The Lincoln Trial Handicap, another race with £50,000 of prizemoney is an important step towards the first major betting race of the year held at our sister Racecourse, Doncaster and is the first race on the card. Hopefully seeing Wolverhampton on your screen’s today will whet your appetite for joining us in person and with fixtures now on sale for dates in May and June and Annual Membership badges also available it won’t be long until we open our gates to racing fans again. We very much hope you enjoy today’s racing and look forward to seeing you all here at one of our many fixtures soon. Stay safe and happy racing!

A preview of today’s race card by Chad Yeomans of Betway.

1

Market support for Street Kid from the rookie Kevin Philippart De Foy’s yard will be telling on his stable debut. He has good two year old form with his previous trainer Jessie Harrington. Prince Of Shadows suffered no luck in running last time out and would have been closer with a trouble-free passage. He could go well under Ben Curtis.

2

Requinto Dawn is the one to beat on ratings. However, he’s four pounds higher than his latest winning mark and needs to prove he can win off it. Slowmo, ironically, is a fast horse who likes to go from the front and is often hard to peg back in this grade when he gets out in front. Lorna Cole will love the drop to five furlongs, too.

3

Poetic Force is a course and distance winner who ran very well here on his penultimate start. His trainer Tony Carroll has his horses in good form, too. Mabre has done nothing but improve this winter and should be in the thick of it, too.

4

Fiordland is the mount of Ryan Moore. He was a very good second at Kempton Park last month and that sets the standard of recent form. Bellissime started her career in a Group Two race. She’s clearly very talented and if she’s supported in the market, she’ll be tough to beat.

5

Highland Dress brings good recent form to the table for a very in-form trainer Archie Watson. His second at Chelmsford last time behind the progressive Khuzaam is good form. MumsTipple looked in need of going up in trip last time out and could go well under Ryan Moore who has won this race twice in the past three years.

6

Man Of The Night is yet to fulfil his promise but is on workable mark of 97. Sean Levey, who is riding at the top of his game, takes the mount. His stablemate Oh This Is Us goes well fresh and could run into a place, as could fellow eight year old Zwayyan who looks well handicapped on the best of his old form.

7

On recent form Summerghand is the one to beat. He was only beaten a neck last time out and comes here in good form. Repartee is the most interesting horse in the field. Talented he may be; he’s only been seen a handful of times on the racecourse, but has won first time out in both seasons. First time out could be the time to catch him.

8

Trainer Ian Williams is in red-hot form and saddles the hat-trick seeking Kangaroo Court who bolted up at Southwell last weekend. If he’s in the same vein of form again, he’ll be vey tough to beat. The Rutland Rebel has also improved for this marathon trip and is also seeking a hat-trick.

9

Four Adaay hosed up on her seasonal debut last week and her connections are striking whilst the iron is hot. She should be tough to beat. Papas Girl will appreciate the drop in trip and could be chasing her home. Nelson Gay is the mount of Ryan Moore, who any market support for, would be telling.

STREET KID’s Cork win last year was something of a stand-out effort, but he starts out for a yard in excellent order, and with 7f expected to be within range, he could be the answer. BELLISSIME was a bit of an eye-catcher having been pitched into the Lowther on debut, and though she failed to land the odds at Newcastle soon after, it was another promising effort. Following a short break, KANGAROO POINT has got the bit firmly between his teeth of late, supplementing his Kempton success with minimum fuss at Southwell 7 days ago. He can complete the hat-trick, with The Rutland Rebel, who similarly arrives in search of the hat-trick, rating the chief threat. Adjourned, who caught the eye over an inadequate trip recently, is also worth keeping an eye on.
