AFTERNOON RACING WEDNESDAY 29 SEPTEMBER 2021 Official Racecard £2.00

THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU

It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to Nottingham today for Grass Roots Finals Day, the culmination of a series that began back in May. The Jockey Club Grass Roots series is an initiative designed to provide opportunities and enhanced prize money for horses operating at a level or two below the top and qualifying races have taken place throughout the summer across The Jockey Club's Flat racecourses. The series has four divisions – Nursery, Sprint, Middle Distance and Stayers – and there is £100,000 in prize money on offer across the finals this afternoon. We are certain that these four highly competitive handicaps will be very exciting, even if selecting the winner could prove a tricky task. The card kicks off with two maiden races, for horses with very little or no racecourse experience. It is well worth keeping a watchful eye on any horse who performs well in these maidens, as Nottingham has an excellent record of high class horses starting their careers here; multiple Group 1 winner Mishriff and Cazoo Derby winner Adayar being two recent examples. An afternoon at Nottingham is typically a sociable occasion and part of that is enjoying some food and drink with friends and family. With a number of bars and food outlets across the course, ranging from traditional fish and chips and toasted sandwiches, to three course meals in our flagship Sherwoods Restaurant, we hope that you will find something to suit your taste. We ask all attendees to read the advice later in this racecard, which explains what we can all do to keep each other safe whilst on course. We wish all the horses and their connections the best of luck today and hope that you have a wonderful time with us here at Nottingham Racecourse. RICHARD PILKINGTON Chairman - Nottingham Racecourse

WELCOME TO SPONSORS & OWNERS THANK YOU The Racecourse Executive would like to thank both our sponsors and all of the owners who have runners here today. Their support sustains our sport.

Quantity over quality in this maiden, with TRUE ICON taken to prove a different proposition this time. She checked out quite tamely starting out at York but the confidence behind her that day shouldn’t be overlooked. Gabriella’s Spirit and Tiberio Smile are bred to be useful sprinters and are feared most.

PLAY SMARTER

FRESH HOPE failed to justify favouritism at Newcastle on debut, but she still shaped well and sets a clear standard. Charlie Appleby has had seven winning 2-y-o newcomers so far this season, so his Romantic Symbol is a likely threat, while Cave Diver is potentially a big improver having caught the eye at Haydock.

TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.FRESH HOPE 2.ROMANTIC SYMBOL (IRE) 3.CAVE DIVER
