The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2024

As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2024 season. Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.

As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.

I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2024 season, the very best of luck.

Have a wonderful day at the races today.

AN INTERVIEW WITH

CHARLIE SIMPSON

The last year for Busted has been a bit of a whirlwind I feel like Busted is in a really, really good place at the moment. We had a brilliant anniversary and an awesome tour, which actually ended up becoming the biggest arena tour of the year in the UK That blew our minds, because we really weren’t expecting that kind of reaction And it was great to get back into the studio and rerecord a lot of the old songs and freshen them up and we ended up getting a number one record! We’ve had the best year we’ve ever had, really – 20 years on! In a way it was really nice that it was the greatest hits album that went to number one, as it covered the whole era.

How was it to get back on the road and do a such a big tour?

It was awesome – you know, we hadn’t actually toured for quite a while. From the age of about 16 when Busted started I don’t think there was really a year that went by that I didn’t tour Then when COVID hit, it was three years of no shows which felt so odd, so getting back on stage after that happened felt really liberating. A double hitter really, Busted coming back, then having not played shows for a while, it was a really nice feeling.

You’re having a busy summer of touring, and begun with Download Festival – how did it feel to play there to such a huge rock audience?

Incredible! I think that just shows how far we’ve come, to be honest, because the thought of playing Download 20 years ago, I wouldn’t have believed you if you’d said it I think that was a real moment for us For a some of the people in the crowd, Busted were the first band they got into and then lead them into heavier music, and it’s great to have been a part of that We couldn’t see the back of, not just the tent, but the entire area of the field, it was nuts So we’re looking forward to these Summer shows, it’s really nice to play outside and they feel very different to an indoor show. Newmarket is pretty close to my hometown so I’m really looking forward to it People having a good time, it’s a great day out!

As you’ve mentioned you come from Suffolk and have family there I’ve got loads of friends coming, we’re going to have a jolly old time! It’s nice doing it close to home but also, it’s cool to play an event that music is a part of, is a much bigger day. I enjoy going to the races, I went to Ascot a few weeks ago and it’s great fun. Put a little bet on, lose some money, it’s so good! With these summer shows, sadly it’s slightly dictated by the weather, but we’re so used to rubbish weather we’ll all have a good time anyway! I’m really looking forward to it – of all the of those sorts of shows, Newmarket is one of the best

The most important question, how do you pick the horse you bet on?

Completely just by the name! When I was at Ascot I won the first two races, but the problem is, then you start to get confident I bet more money, and then you lose, and then it’s a disaster! So it’s definitely not something to get too into But it’s all good!

Anyone who’s never seen a Busted show, what can they expect?

This is going to be a fun show, because we’re basically doing the greatest hits set So unlike other tours where we might play or song or two from different records, this is all the singles, this is very much a greatest hit set! So, if you’ve heard any of the Busted singles before, so it should be a set everyone knows well

DECLARED RUNNERS 10

2023: STAR GUEST 3 9 7 William Buick 15-8 (Charlie Appleby) 11 ran Hood worn by No 3. Visor worn by No 4.

Probable S.P’s: 7-2 Enchanted Life (IRE), 4-1 Ananda (GB), Rosy Affair (GB), 15-2 Cuban Melody (GB), 10-1 Star of Lady M (GB), 12-1 Radio Goo Goo (GB), 14-1 Queen of Mougins (IRE), 28-1 Al Simmo (GB), 40-1 My Margie (IRE), 66-1 Kitai (IRE)

ANANDA and Rosy Affair dominated the finish of a C&D handicap three weeks ago, the pair pulling well clear of the rest, and they can come to the fore once again. The latter was successful on that occasion but Ananda arguably possesses the greater scope and she could be the one this time. Unbeaten and unexposed, Enchanted Life is also of strong interest for her powerful connections, while Star of Lady M makes some each-way appeal.
