DUBAI FUTURE CHAMPIONS FESTIVAL DAY ONE featuring the

Fillies’ Mile

FRIDAY 8 OCTOBER 2021 Official Racecard £3.50

THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU Welcome to the Rowley Mile. A very warm welcome to the Rowley Mile for the start of Dubai Future Champions Festival, the jewel of The Newmarket Gold Season. We have seven excellent races to enjoy this afternoon, no fewer than five of which are Group status, including the Group One bet365 Fillies' Mile. This race is typically contested by the very best two year old fillies in Europe and today's event looks no exception. Horses who have won the bet365 Fillies' Mile have frequently gone on to win or place in the following year's Classics, such as The 1000 Guineas and The Oaks. We are also looking forward to the Group Two Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes, Group Three Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes, Group Three Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes and Group Three Newmarket Pony Academy Pride Stakes, not to mention the enormously competitive bet365 Old Rowley Cup, a Heritage Handicap. This truly is one of the highest quality racedays of the season. Our thanks go to Godolphin for their continued support of this fixture and bet365 for their generous sponsorship of today's racing. We are delighted to be hosting our Autumn Style Awards today, with our judges looking for creative outfits that stand out from the crowd whilst befitting the occasion. If you would like to enter, please head to the Style Awards arches in the Boulevard area between 11.15 and 2.15. If you are looking for some advice to help you find the winners this afternoon, our raceday announcer Steven Powell will be hosting a 'Punter's Panel' with Pat Cooney of bet365 and 'The Wine Tipster' Neil Phillips in the winner's enclosure at 12.30pm. We ask all attendees to read the advice later in this racecard which explains what we can all do to keep each other safe whilst on course. I wish all the horses and their connections the best of luck and hope that you all have a wonderful time with us here at Newmarket.

Best wishes, SOPHIE ABLE General Manager of Newmarket Racecourses DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING - SATURDAY 9 OCTOBER DUBAI FUTURE CHAMPIONS FESTIVAL The highlight of The Newmarket Gold Season, the Dubai Future Champions Festival, provides two days of top class racing, as the sport looks to unearth potential stars for the following campaign. Our feature race today is the bet365 Fillies' Mile, a Group 1 contest over a mile. Won last year by Irish raider Pretty Gorgeous, the bet365 Fillies' Mile provides the perfect proving ground for potential Classic contenders to take in valuable experience on the Rowley Mile. The race gets underway at 3.35pm, so make sure to head down to both the pre-parade and the parade ring after our fourth race at 3pm to see the field preparing for the race. 11:15am - 2.15pm - Autumn Style Awards Make sure you that you come to the Style Awards pod located within the Grandstand & Paddock enclosure, to enter the fabulous Autumn Style Awards for free. The team will be walking around with ‘lollipops’ to direct racegoers to the entry point. Entry is open from 11.15am until 2.15pm today and is open to all, with some fabulous prizes on offer. 11.15am - 4.40pm - Breeding Champions Legacies of the Darley Stallions Located on the lawn between the Parade Ring and the Hong Kong Suite, this display is a pictorial guide to the breeding programme at Darley. What it takes to be a jockey with Mattie Bachelor Come and meet professional jockey Mattie Bachelor on the Parade Ring Lawn and find out more about the life of a jockey and have a go on one of the equicisers available!

The two-day Dubai Future Champions Festival starts here, bringing the curtain down on the 2021 Newmarket Gold Season. As the title suggests, the theme of this weekend revolves firmly around finding stars for 2022 and beyond, with future Classic heroes and heroines making their presence felt at this meeting annually. With no fewer than seven Group races across the two days on the Rowley Mile, proceedings begin with Dubai Future Champions Friday, which is headlined by the Group One bet365 Fillies’ Mile. Since being moved to the Rowley Mile in 2011, the race has lived up to its reputation of producing stars of the future and recent winners include top-class performers Laurens (2017), Rhododendron (2016) and the breath-taking dual Classic winner Minding (2015). Those looking for pointers could do worse than following a certain Frankie Dettori, who with six winners is the most successful rider in the race’s history. The supporting card includes both the Group Two Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes and the Group Three Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes, while the hugely popular bet365 Old Rowley Cup Heritage Handicap regularly delivers a thrilling finish. Away from the racing, this afternoon also sees the return of our hugely popular Autumn Style Awards, which will see someone crowned as Best Dressed on the afternoon. Entry is free and you can take part by heading to the Autumn Style Awards marquee before 2.15pm. Please see pages 10 & 11 for more information. We are thrilled to have you with us for the beginning of two days of world-class sporting action, with the very real prospect of seeing a superstar of the future.

TWILIGHT JET makes plenty of appeal back at the minimum trip on the back of his solid effort in the Middle Park here recently. Indeed, a reproduction of that effort would make him hard to beat at this lower level. Next on the list is Hierarchy, for whom the drop to 5f looks a good move on the back of his near miss in the Mill Reef. Papa Don’t Preach, Guilded and Tardis are live each-way players.

The breed is changing. Dubawi, conceived 20 years ago. And now see his

trademark muscularity and head-down determination across the world’s racecourses. This year, he’s sired more Group winners and Stakes winners than any other European stallion. Way more. And his outstanding sire son, Night Of Thunder, might one day be even better. Dubawi sired 15% Stakes winners to first-crop runners; Night Of Thunder is on 18%. The Dubawi look – it’s here to stay.

Dubai 2020 will be long remembered as the one of the most difficult years that our generation will have ever faced. Covid-19 has brought many challenges to everyday personal and business life. The Thoroughbred Racing Community across the globe have had to make many tough decisions to keep racing going albeit behind closed doors. As racecourses across the UK start to welcome a limited number of people back to their tracks, we would like to congratulate Sophie and her team at Newmarket Racecourse, The Home of British Racing, on their efforts and determination to bring back spectators. We know it isn’t the same as before but we look forward very much to returning to the track in numbers to enjoy the sport we all love. Good luck to all and stay safe. Our horses receive the highest standard of care throughout every stage of their lives. Whether they are the top-performing, best-bred horses – parenting the next generation at stud after their racing days are over – or retirees pursuing second careers through the Godolphin Rehoming initiative, throughout their lives they are all assured of quality care and attention from our global network of employees.

It was something of a redemption story for jockey Shane Crosse, who had missed out on the ride on St Leger winner Galileo Chrome following a COVID issue, but had returned to partner Pretty Gorgeous in this Group 1. The winner came here following a promising run at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend when second behind Shale, but she turned that form around, with Shale only able to finish sixth under Ryan Moore. Steadied into the race by Crosse, Pretty Gorgeous made her move two furlongs out and and took up the lead inside the final furlong, seeing the race out to beat Indigo Girl into second and Mother Earth into third.

The all conquering Ballydoyle team have a great record in this race. They are represented by Concert Hall this year.

PLAY SMARTER

Hard to oppose INSPIRAL, who has made a flawless start to her career. She seemed to relish the step up to 1m in the May Hill at Doncaster and there should be plenty more improvement to come. Concert Hall did well to come from off the pace to win a Group 3 at the Curragh and will be suited by this extra furlong, so rates the main threat ahead of Wild Beauty, who was impressive in Canada.

Seventh Race

VILLE DE GRACE looks the most interesting in this field. She was well suited by the step up to this trip when winning a Yarmouth Listed event in good style from a few of these last month and, given she’s just 6 runs into her career, it’s hard to say where her progression might end. La Joconde sets the standard on her recent efforts in Group 1s, with Lights On and Soft Whisper others to consider.

Emergency Procedures

Newmarket Racecourses has put in place a number of security and safety measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment. However an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions calmly and quickly. Please take your belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course, the most likely scenario is that you will be ushered onto the track itself via the emergency gates. From there you will be held in an area of safety and receive further instructions as appropriate. It may give you some peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, please remember in the event of an emergency: TAKE YOUR BELONGINGS WITH YOU. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE STEWARDS, PROCEED QUICKLY AND CALMLY TO THE SAFE AREA. Racegoers are reminded to keep all their belongings with them at all times, and not to leave any packages unattended. Any such packages may be confiscated by the Racecourse Management.

Health And Safety Notice

The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Newmarket Racecourses. The emergency exits from the bars onto the grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would request that you do not stop whilst in this area. We would also request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing ramp and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that the first aid room is located adjacent to the main Premier Enclosure Entrance (Rowley Mile) or Premier Entrance 2 (July Course).

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials are here to ensure that the racecourse delivers those standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs two veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.

Photography

Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the racecourse enclosures. Photography is not permitted in any other area without the permission of the Head of Racing. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication. Racegoers are reminded that flash photography is not permitted as the flash can alarm horses and may endanger horses, jockeys and public.
