THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU Welcome to the Rowley Mile. A very warm welcome to the Rowley Mile for Juddmonte Day, the finale of the Cambridgeshire Meeting. Today promises to be a real treat for racing fans, with three Group races and one of the most competitive and exciting handicaps of the season, the bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap. The first of two Group One races is the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes, which provides a platform for two year old fillies to step up to the top tier and showcase their talent. Those who perform well could return here next year to contest the QIPCO 1000 Guineas. This race is followed by the Group One Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes, which is also run over six furlongs but is restricted to two year old colts. Again, it is not uncommon for those who win and run well to be seen back on the Rowley Mile, for the QIPCO 2000 Guineas. The bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap is always a very difficult puzzle for punters and this year looks as intriguing as ever. Regardless of whether you successfully pick the winner, the sight of 30 horses at full gallop is a thrilling spectacle. Adding further spice to the afternoon is the Group Two Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, which has been won by some superb horses in the past, not least the mighty Frankel. We would like to thank Juddmonte, bet365, Blandford Bloodstock, the European Breeders Fund and the friends and family of Sue Human for sponsoring this afternoon's races. We are very grateful for their support. We ask all attendees to read the advice later in this racecard which explains what we can all do to keep each other safe whilst on course. I wish all the horses and their connections the best of luck and hope that you all have a wonderful time with us here at Newmarket. Best wishes, SOPHIE ABLE General Manager of Newmarket Racecourses DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING - SATURDAY 2ND OCTOBER SUN CHARIOT DAY Sun Chariot Day at Newmarket Racecourses is an excellent afternoon of quality horseracing. The feature race is The Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes, a Group 1 race for fillies and mares aged three-years- old and over. Tickets available now.

Today is Juddmonte Day, the third and concluding day of the Cambridgeshire Meeting and widely regarded as one of the most exciting days in the Flat racing calendar. A jewel in the crown of The Newmarket Gold Season, there are two Group One races on offer for juveniles as well as the first leg of the traditional ‘Autumn Double’. Juddmonte Day has developed a well-deserved reputation for highlighting stars of the future and with the first two British top level juvenile races of the year on this card it is easy to see why. The first of them, the Group One Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes, is run over six furlongs for two year old fillies. Named after one of the most successful thoroughbred Stud Farms in Europe and generously sponsored by the late Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juuddmonte Farms for the fifth successive year, the race has produced numerous candidates for the following year’s QIPCO 1000 Guineas, with the last horse to complete that particular double being Special Duty for French trainer Criquette HeadMaarek in 2009/2010. Its equivalent race for the boys, the Group One Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes for two year old colts over six furlongs, quickly follows. Like the Cheveley Park, the race is worth noting in terms of the market for the QIPCO 2000 Guineas the following May, while the 2018 winner Ten Sovereigns went on to win the July Cup for Aidan O’Brien the following year. Juddmonte is extending its generous backing to this contest for the seventh time in 2021. Complementing those two races is the Group Two Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes for two year olds over a mile, which boasts an impressive recent roll of honour which includes future Group One winners Elm Park in 2014, Roaring Lion in 2017 and the incomparable Frankel in 2010. Away from the Group action is the bet365 Cambridgeshire, a Heritage Handicap which serves as the first leg of the traditional ‘Autumn Double’ which is completed by the Together For Racing International Cesarewitch Heritage on Dubai Future Champions Day (Saturday 9th October in 2021). There few spectacles in sport quite like the sight of 30 runners thundering down the Rowley Mile and this nine furlong contest is a favourite of jockeys, trainers and racegoers alike. Recent winners include future Group performers Wissahickon in 2018 and Lord North in 2019. This is truly a world-class day of racing action staged on the historic Rowley Mile and a fitting finale to three fantastic days of horseracing.

Dubai 2020 will be long remembered as the one of the most difficult years that our generation will have ever faced. Covid-19 has brought many challenges to everyday personal and business life. The Thoroughbred Racing Community across the globe have had to make many tough decisions to keep racing going albeit behind closed doors. As racecourses across the UK start to welcome a limited number of people back to their tracks, we would like to congratulate Sophie and her team at Newmarket Racecourse, The Home of British Racing, on their efforts and determination to bring back spectators. We know it isn’t the same as before but we look forward very much to returning to the track in numbers to enjoy the sport we all love. Good luck to all and stay safe. OHEKA shaped with real promise when third on the July course last month, putting in good late work after showing signs of inexperience in the early stages. She will be wiser this time and is taken to reverse the placings with the runner-up that day, Stellar Queen, and emerge on top. Newcomers Miss Carol Ann (yard has won this maiden a couple of times) and Love You Grandpa are likely-looking types.

PLAY SMARTER

MASEKELA’s close second to Native Trail at the July meeting here reads very well in light of that one’s Group 1 success in Ireland this month. Andrew Balding’s colt should have more to offer now stepping up to 1m so he’s preferred to Acomb-winner Royal Patronage, who also promises to benefit from the extra yardage this afternoon. Coroebus looked a good prospect on debut and also merits respect.

PLAY SMARTER

SACRED BRIDGE looked something special when completing the 4-timer in the Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh, a race her trainer used as a stepping stone for Lightening Pearl, who followed up in this in 2011. The Lowther Stakes at York is often a good pointer to the Cheveley Park and this year’s 1-2, Zain Claudette and Sandrine, head the dangers.

After impressive wins at Windsor and Goodwood he delivered in style, seeing off Irish challenger Lucky Vega by half a length in a thrilling race. What made the performance more impressive is that Supremacy made all under Adam Kirby, and had to grind strongly in the closing stages to see out the victory. In arguably the juvenile performance of the season, Supremacy didn’t deliver on that promise as a threeyear-old, finishing out of the places on his three starts a year after his demolishing performance in this race.

Lots of collateral form on offer. PERFECT POWER looked most unlucky when unable to fully open up in the Richmond Stakes won by Asymmetric and he emphatically reversed the form in the Prix Morny. Tracey Harding joined Discover Newmarket, the town’s official tourism service, just a few months before the pandemic hit. We caught up with her, two years on to find out what life has been like. Well, it has certainly been a tough 18 months here in Newmarket. With a town so dependent on its racing visitors, including those from overseas, we’ve all felt the impact. However, we have been overwhelmed with the support of our loyal visitors as well as residents who came out and supported us just as soon as it was safe to do so. Thankfully, we are now seeing business return to near normal levels, which includes our own guided tours, and it is certainly good to be welcoming visitors back again. In addition to our regular tours of the Gallops, Trainer’s Yards, National Stud and the National Horseracing Museum, we have also been grateful to be able to run our feature tours. Visits to Dalham Hall, Godolphin’s UK headquarters, Juddmonte, home to the mighty Frankel and Clarehaven Stables to meet trainers John and Thady Gosden have certainly been highlights for me. It has been great working with the team to adapt and innovate our behind the scenes, guided tours during these challenging times. As a result, we introduced private experiences for up to six people so that family and friends could feel safe whilst still being able to enjoy our tours. These have proved so popular they now form part of our tours programme and are a perfect way to celebrate a special occasion as they can be booked on a day of your choice. We have also developed some new, themed walking tours aimed at different audiences so that even those that are not avid racing fans can still enjoy a visit to our historic town. So, do look out for our Food and Drink Taster Tour, Newmarket’s Racing Royalty Tour and our literary tour, On the Trail of Dick Francis. As I’ve discovered for myself, we have such a special offer here at the home of horseracing, with fabulous accommodation, eateries, attractions and activities, So, do please check out our website for ideas and inspiration and contact the Discover Newmarket team who can help make the most of your time with us.

CHICHESTER was deeply impressive when bolting up in a first-time visor at Ayr last week, drawing clear in a well-run race with his jockey able to ease down a touch. This is a better race but he’s officially ahead of the game under a penalty. The Gosden team has an enviable record in this and are represented by 3-y-o Uncle Bryn and Magical Morning, with Indeed the pick of those at longer odds.

Several of the newcomers are appealing, but THANKS MONICA is taken to strike on the back of her encouraging debut fourth on the other course here. The form of that maiden is working out fairly well and the booking of Frankie Dettori is an added boost. PLAY SMARTER

Mark Johnston saddled the winner of this race in 2019 and OUTSIDE WORLD could be another for the yard. She displayed a willing attitude when striking on nursery debut at Goodwood and may well have more to offer over this new trip. Recent York winner Mistrix should be in the mix, while Tinderbox remains of interest, despite a disappointing display last time, and Prism also enters calculations.

IN MEMORY OF SUE HUMAN

This race is in memory of Sue Human who passed away suddenly in May 2020. Sue was a huge racing fan and an annual member here at Newmarket therefore her family thought this would be a fitting tribute to her as this particular meeting was one of her favourites. She was a familiar face to people in the Newmarket area, some who may have known her previous married name as Thomas or even her maiden name Edgar but she was a person that once met never forgotten and always had a story to tell. Anyone here today who knew Sue please raise a glass and toast her as she will be looking down wishing she was here and hate to be missing out on all of this!

Emergency Procedures

Newmarket Racecourses has put in place a number of security and safety measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment. However an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions calmly and quickly. Please take your belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course, the most likely scenario is that you will be ushered onto the track itself via the emergency gates. From there you will be held in an area of safety and receive further instructions as appropriate. It may give you some peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, please remember in the event of an emergency: TAKE YOUR BELONGINGS WITH YOU. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE STEWARDS, PROCEED QUICKLY AND CALMLY TO THE SAFE AREA. Racegoers are reminded to keep all their belongings with them at all times, and not to leave any packages unattended. Any such packages may be confiscated by the Racecourse Management.

Health And Safety Notice

The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Newmarket Racecourses. The emergency exits from the bars onto the grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would request that you do not stop whilst in this area. We would also request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing ramp and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that the first aid room is located adjacent to the main Premier Enclosure Entrance (Rowley Mile) or Premier Entrance 2 (July Course).

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials are here to ensure that the racecourse delivers those standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs two veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.

Photography

Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the racecourse enclosures. Photography is not permitted in any other area without the permission of the Head of Racing. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication. Racegoers are reminded that flash photography is not permitted as the flash can alarm horses and may endanger horses, jockeys and public.

Newmarket Racecourses Official Photographer

The official photographer is John Hoy. To see any of his images please visit www.hoycubedphotography.com. Racegoers are reminded that many racedays are given coverage on television, radio and in print, various other forms of media and for Newmarket Racecourses commercial use. This race will be restricted to 35 runners plus two reserves. The two reserves will be nominated as R36 and R37. The procedure for the allocation and operation of the reserves protocol will be as detailed in the notice headed ‘Reserves’ which has been published in The Racing Calendar and which also appears in the important notices following the Standard Conditions on the Racing Bulletin area of the BHA Racing Administration Internet site www.racingadmin.co.uk. Trainers are reminded of the provisions of paragraph 41 of the Race Entry Code which require that they must notify the Racing Calendar Office immediately when the decision has been made not to run. This will maximise the list of runners and determine whether the weights will need to be raised. The Racecourse Executive will pay a travel allowance of £400 to any reserve that travels to the course on the day prior to this race, but which subsequently fails to take the place of a declared runner.
