Newmarket Racecard - Saturday 24th July

Page 1

SUMMER SATURDAY SATURDAY 24 JULY 2021 Official Racecard £3.50

THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU Welcome to the July Course A warm welcome to the July Course for a summer's afternoon of racing in this beautiful setting. Our opening race is the MansionBet Proud To Support British Racing British EBF Maiden Stakes, which is for two year old horses who are yet to win. This means the majority have little or no racecourse experience and such races are worth keeping a close eye on, as those who perform well could be destined for bigger targets down the line. The July Course has a fine record of providing high-quality maiden winners. The seven races conclude with the MansionBet At Newmarket Handicap, which is part of The Jockey Club Grassroots Flat Series. The series, comprising four categories, aims to offer additional prize money for horses operating below the highest level, culminating on Finals Day at Nottingham on Wednesday 29th September. Each of today's races is sponsored by MansionBet and we would like to thank them for their support of the racing. We also extend our gratitude to Al Basti Equiworld Dubai, for their sponsorship of our Owners’ and Trainers’ facility. Part of a day at the races is enjoying some food and drink with friends and family and we have a wide selection of food outlets and bars to suit every taste. If you would like to enhance your experience, our Mozart's restaurant is open for walk-ins on the day and offers a delicious and broad ranging menu. We are delighted to be able to welcome spectators back without restrictions on capacity, but we would ask all attendees this afternoon to read the advice later in this racecard which explains what we can all do to follow the current government guidance whilst on course. I wish all the horses and their connections the best of luck and hope that you all have a wonderful afternoon with us here at Newmarket. Best wishes, SOPHIE ABLE General Manager of Newmarket Racecourses

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING - FRIDAY 30TH JULY OLLY MURS Olly Murs will perform all his biggest hits old and new, including Dance With Me Tonight, Dear Darlin', You Don't Know Love and more. An unmissable evening of racing and music! Tickets available now.

Dubai 2020 will be long remembered as the one of the most difficult years that our generation will have ever faced. Covid-19 has brought many challenges to everyday personal and business life. The Thoroughbred Racing Community across the globe have had to make many tough decisions to keep racing going albeit behind closed doors. As racecourses across the UK start to welcome a limited number of people back to their tracks, we would like to congratulate Sophie and her team at Newmarket Racecourse, The Home of British Racing, on their efforts and determination to bring back spectators. We know it isn’t the same as before but we look forward very much to returning to the track in numbers to enjoy the sport we all love. Good luck to all and stay safe. Malih L Al Basti Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai.

CUSTOMER CODE OF CONDUCT As part of our joint commitment to each other and the communities in which we operate, all racegoers should be aware of the Code of Conduct and observe the following whilst at our Racecourse: • For the safety of other racegoers and racecourse staff, please consider wearing a face covering in busy indoor areas or outside where social distancing cannot be maintained. • If you feel you may be experiencing any of the recognised symptoms of Covid-19, please put on a face covering and speak to a member of staff in a well ventilated area. It is best to travel home if it is safe to do so. • Regularly wash your hands, use hand sanitiser and avoid touching your face and dispose of any used tissues appropriately. • Familiarise yourself with your entry point and the location of amenities within the racecourse. • We are operating a cashless event. On-course bookmakers/pool betting operators may accept cash. • Enjoy the vast amounts of space around the racecourse and avoid congregating in busy areas (for example, along the rail or by the Winning Post). • Make sure all walkways, corridors and doorways etc are clear before you walk through. • Follow all signage and the instructions of staff, officials or any emergency service personnel present at the racecourse. • Make sure other members of your group have read and understood these guidelines. Thank you so much for your continued support and co-operation. We hope you have a wonderful day with us.

MODERN GAMES can be expected to leave his debut form well behind here and is taken to strike for last year’s winning connections. Golden War understandably found the Coventry Stakes much too hot and is feared greatly based on his encouraging introduction at Goodwood, while newcomers Saga and Thunder Legend both need close attention in the betting. Desert Angel is also shortlist material.

PLAY SMARTER

MR WAGYU has thrived this season and arrives on the back of an excellent third (when up with a strong gallop) at Hamilton 8 days ago. This track plays to his strengths and there’s not much obvious pace on, so he gets the marginal vote in a race where a case can be made for the entire field. Dazzling Dan should give another good account, while Lincoln Park is worth considering after a small rise.

Back in 0-85 company and 1lb lower than for his C&D success last June, HAN SOLO BERGER could be the way to go. Chris Wall’s charge hasn’t been at his very best so far this year, but he wasn’t beaten far in a stronger handicap than this over C&D 15 days ago and the booking of James Doyle adds to his appeal. Emergency Procedures

Newmarket Racecourses has put in place a number of security and safety measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment. However an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions calmly and quickly. Please take your belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course, the most likely scenario is that you will be ushered onto the track itself via the emergency gates. From there you will be held in an area of safety and receive further instructions as appropriate. It may give you some peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, please remember in the event of an emergency: TAKE YOUR BELONGINGS WITH YOU. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE STEWARDS, PROCEED QUICKLY AND CALMLY TO THE SAFE AREA. Racegoers are reminded to keep all their belongings with them at all times, and not to leave any packages unattended. Any such packages may be confiscated by the Racecourse Management.

Health And Safety Notice

The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Newmarket Racecourses. The emergency exits from the bars onto the grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would request that you do not stop whilst in this area. We would also request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing ramp and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that the first aid room is located adjacent to the main Premier Enclosure Entrance (Rowley Mile) or Premier Entrance 2 (July Course).

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials are here to ensure that the racecourse delivers those standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs two veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.

Photography

Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the racecourse enclosures. Photography is not permitted in any other area without the permission of the Head of Racing. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication. Racegoers are reminded that flash photography is not permitted as the flash can alarm horses and may endanger horses, jockeys and public.

Newmarket Racecourses Official Photographer

The official photographer is John Hoy. To see any of his images please visit www.hoycubedphotography.com. Racegoers are reminded that many racedays are given coverage on television, radio and in print, various other forms of media and for Newmarket Racecourses commercial use.
