Good evening and a warm welcome to Newbury Racecourse for our final summer evening fixture of 2021. I want to take this time to thank our generous sponsors, BetVictor and Visit Newbury for their continued support of the racecourse and we also thrilled to host two Pony Races at this evening’s fixture. It’s great to welcome them back here. For those of you who joined us for BetVictor Hungerford Day, we hope you had an enjoyable afternoon. Our first major Saturday with an unrestricted capacity, we welcomed 15,000 of you for some quality action in the afternoon followed by a superb concert from Olly Murs after racing. A second win in the BetVictor Geoffrey Freer Stakes for the locally trained Hukum followed by a sparkling performance from Sacred in the BetVictor Hungerford Stakes was well received by the crowd. Summer at Newbury continues with our final two pop-up Pub in the Paddock afternoons on Saturday 4 and Saturday 11 September. Our summer BBQ will take place on Saturday 4 September and will show live racing from Haydock Park, with music and games for all the family, or you can join us for the final Classic of the season, the Cazoo St Leger on Saturday 11 September with live music throughout the afternoon. There will be betting available on both dates and all tables can be booked free of charge on our website. Looking further ahead, make sure you secure your spot for our end of Summer Party and our second Party in the Paddock event, on Dubai Duty Free International Saturday, featuring Rick Astley live after racing on Saturday 18 September. Following some great action on the track, including the Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes which has previously been won by the likes of Harry Angel and Ribchester, the 80’s legend Rick Astley will take to the stage to perform an array of his famous hits, plus covers of some of everyone’s favourites tunes. We will also be celebrating National Racehorse Week with the opportunity to Meet a Racehorse and activities for all the family to enjoy. Tickets are available to book online at the best price with the Advanced Saver discount ending soon. Thank you for joining us this evening, and we hope you have an enjoyable and profitable time.

RACE 2

Race Summary: FANGORN’s form has been a little up and down this campaign but his latest runners-up effort in a C&D event was very much a return to form and a repeat may well be enough to see him come out on top. Eloquent Arthur disappointed at Haydock last time but a bounce back is distinctly possible and he, along with Beloved, may emerge as the chief threats.

Betting Forecast: 11-4 Beowulf (IRE), 7-2 Just Jacob (IRE), 5-1 Modestus (GB), 9-1 Cheeky Az (GB), 14-1 Helluvaboy (IRE), 16-1 Greystoke (GB), Escobedo (GB), 18-1 The Hood (IRE), 25-1 Liberated Lad (GB) Race Summary: The form of BEOWULF’s latest Ffos Las win was boosted by the runner-up next time so he could still be ahead of the handicapper despite a 7lb rise. Modestus was a bit better than the result on his Salisbury handicap debut and likely has a bigger performance in him so he’s feared most ahead of the William Haggas-trained Just Jacob. 1-2-3: 1.BEOWULF (IRE) 2.MODESTUS 3.JUST JACOB (IRE) FREE form for all British and Irish meetings is available online every day at timeform.com/free
