A warm welcome to the July Course for the second day of the July Festival, Festival Friday, headlined by a top-level contest in the form of the Group One Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tattersalls, Federation of Bloodstock Agents, Blake-Turner Solicitors and Weatherbys for their sponsorship of today’s card. We are also extremely grateful to our betting partner bet365 for their generous support across the three days
The Group One Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes, run over a mile for fillies and mare, has seen some of the most famed racehorses of recent years grace the track at the July Course. Including Soviet Song and Goldikova, and more recently Nashwa, the race offers the first high profile opportunity for the top three-year-old fillies to test themselves against their older rivals
The Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes is also part of the QIPCO British Champions Series, which takes place over 35 races across the flat racing season from May to October
Head down to the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure for Darts with the Stars, where racegoers can compete with some of the leading darts players, including Keith Deller and Russ Bray. We also encourage racegoers to join us after racing to enjoy a DJ set full of feel-good tunes and dance anthems from DJ Toby Anstis. Please look at the racecourse map further in this racecard for locations of all activity
Looking ahead, we have another fantastic day of racing tomorrow, with the conclusion of our July Festival, July Cup Day. The My Pension Expert July Cup is one of the most valuable and prestigious sprint races in the world and the winner is often acknowledged to be the best sprinter in Europe. Tickets are still available to purchase on the gate
Across the season, we would like to thank the European Breeders Fund for their contributions to prize money and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility.
I hope that you all have a wonderful time here at Newmarket and wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck
Warm wishes,

The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2024
As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2024 season. Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.
As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.
I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2024 season, the very best of luck.

RACE ONE
Selection: ROYAL POWER
RACE TWO
TODAY’S TOP TIPS
ROYAL POWER ran well for third in a Listed race at Goodwood on his reappearance and the unexposed Godolphin colt looks capable of going well on his handicap debut. Stable companion Endless Victory is not out of this either, while Chantilly drops back down in distance after a good effort at Royal Ascot and can figure. The progressive pair Rebaatt and Travolta have a hike in the ratings to contend with, but Candle Of Dubai is worth a second glance.
Danger; Endless Victory
HEAVENS GATE arrives on the back of a solid third in the Albany at Royal Ascot, where she finished comfortably ahead of the reopposing Mountain Breeze and looks set to run a big race. Mighty Eriu and Maw Lam filled the places in the Queen Mary over 5f at Ascot and both should see out this extra distance, but Arabian Dusk may prove a bigger threat on her third in a Listed race over C&D.
Selection: HEAVENS GATE Danger; Arabian Dusk
RACE THREE
TIDES OF WAR made the most of a lenient mark to land a competitive contest over this trip at Goodwood last time. A 4lb rise may not be enough to anchor David Simcock's charge now he's got his head back in front. Fairbanks finished in front of Bague D'or when sixth in the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot, although the latter is a C&D winner and is fancied to turn the tables, while Fox Journey disappointed at Ascot but it's too soon to write him off
Selection: TIDES OF WAR
RACE FOUR
Danger; Bague D'or
Having dug deep to land the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, dual Group 1 winner PORTA FORTUNA arrives on the back of a career-best performance. The daughter of Caravaggio should prove a warm order and further glory looks imminent. Running Lion looked better than ever when scoring in the Duke Of Cambridge and the Gosdens' filly may give the selection most to think about, ahead of the unexposed A Lilac Rolla.
Selection: PORTA FORTUNA
RACE FIVE
Danger; Running Lion
Mothecombe is related to some smart types, including the Group 3 winner Fairy Cross, and any market support for Charlie Appleby's newcomer must be noted. However, MOUNT KILIMANJARO is taken to build on his fifth-placed debut over 7f at Leopardstown in May and that experience could prove to be vital. Recent Doncaster third Field Of Gold is another likely improver and the Kingman colt completes the shortlist.
Selection: MOUNT KILIMANJARO
RACE SIX
Danger;Mothecombe
Metabolt has to be of interest having scored twice last month but marginal preference is for GISBURN Richard Hannon's gelding has been catching the eye when staying on late over 6f of late and he could take advantage of a lenient handicap mark now up in trip. Smoky Mountain remains unexposed and some promise can be taken from his Goodwood effort last time, while Zouzanna is also noted.
Selection: GISBURN Danger; Metabolt
RACE SEVEN
NO HALF MEASURES has progressed well this year and outran odds of 50/1 when filling third place in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse at Royal Ascot last month Off just a 1lb higher mark here, the daughter of Cable Bay could be hard to stop Good Good Good has to be of some interest now switched to handicaps having won both of her starts in novice company, while Almaty Star and Isle Of Lismore are others who could go well
Upgraded to Group One status in 2004, the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes is one of the most prestigious races of the season for fillies and mares. It forms part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.
Established in 1911, the mile contest is named in honour of the sixth Viscount Falmouth, one of the leading owner-breeders of the 19th Century who was responsible for 16 English Classic victories between 1857 and 1883
Initially for three-year-olds only, the Falmouth Stakes was opened up to older fillies and mares in 1973 Appropriately, the inaugural running in 1911 fell to Alice, owned by the seventh Viscount Falmouth, son of the sixth Viscount, although few would have got rich backing the 1-10 favourite.
During its early history, the Falmouth Stakes was dominated by trainer Alec Taylor, known as “The Wizard of Manton”, who recorded six successes with First Spear (1914), Tomatina (1919), Lady Ava (1920), Blue Lady (1921), Leighon Tor (1922) and Maid Of Bath (1924)
Happy Laughter in 1953 became the first filly to win both the 1000 Guineas and the Falmouth Stakes in the same season. Waterloo, in 1972, is the only other to have taken the two Newmarket contests
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Sonic Lady won the first running of the Falmouth Stakes with Group Two status in 1987, having also scored 12 months earlier. The Nureyev filly was a truly outstanding performer, having also won the Irish 1,000 Guineas, Coronation Stakes, Sussex Stakes and Prix du Moulin - all Group One events
Between 1993 and 1995, the combination of owner Lord Carnarvon and trainer Richard Hannon reigned supreme. Niche coasted home by an impressive three and a half lengths in 1993, while Lemon Souffle was not hard pressed to record a length and a quarter success a year later. The duo notched their third successive win in 1995 with Caramba, but this time the winning margin was just a short-head.
The German raider Proudwings made history when she was victorious in 2001 by two lengths Trained by Cologne-based Ralf Suerland and ridden by leading Japanese jockey Yutaka Take, Proudwings was the first German-trained winner of a Pattern race in Britain since Star Appeal in the 1975 Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park
The 2004 renewal, the first with Group One status, saw the 1000 Guineas heroine Attraction take on the older generation for the first time Mark Johnston’s charge ran well, but went down by two and a half lengths to the other star filly of the season, Soviet Song, losing her
unbeaten record in the process.
Soviet Song returned in 2005 to defend her title and did so in style, comfortably defeating Alexander Goldrun by two and a half lengths under regular pilot Johnny Murtagh (who had been on board in 2004), albeit in a slower time than the previous year
Probably the greatest winner ever is Goldikova (2009), a 14-time winner at Group/Grade One level, who created history by winning the Breeders’ Cup Mile in the USA on three occasions (2008, 2009 & 2010).
MOST SUCCESSFUL HORSES:
There have been two dual winners:
Sonic Lady (1986, 1987)
Soviet Song (2004, 2005)
MOST SUCCESSFUL TRAINERS:
Alec Taylor Jr and Sir Michael Stoute are the most successful trainers, with six victories apiece
Taylor’s winners were First Spear (1914), Tomatina (1919), Lady Ava (1920), Blue Lady (1921), Leighon Tor (1922) and Maid of Bath (1924)
Stoute has been successful so far with Royal Heroine (1983), Sonic Lady (1986 & 1987), Lovers Knot (1998), Integral (2014) and Veracious (2019).
MOST SUCESSFUL JOCKEY:
The late Lester Piggott is the most successful jockey in the race of all time with seven winsSylphide (1957), Green Opal (1960), Chrona (1966), Vital Match (1969), Chalon (1982), Niche (1993) and Lemon Souffle (1994)
Ryan Moore is the most successful current jockey with three wins – Integral (2014), Alice Springs (2016) and Roly Poly (2017).
AGE OF WINNERS:
In the 51 runnings since it became an all-aged affair in 1973, three-year-olds have the best record with 33 successes. The overall age breakdown is as below:
Since it became an all-aged affair in 1973, market leaders have prevailed on 19 occasions –a strike rate of just over 37 per cent
OVERSEAS-TRAINED WINNERS:
IRELAND (3): Rose Above (1979), Alice Springs (2016), Roly Poly (2017) FRANCE (5): River Dane (1977), Sensation (1996), Ronda (1999), Goldikova (2009), Giofra (2012)

A cracking 3-y-o handicap with SUN GOD just about the most appealing proposition at the forecast prices. His 2-y-o win turned out to be strong form, and with a sound reappearance under his belt, he looks the type to benefit from a subsequent gelding operation. Travolta and Rebaatt are going the right way too, while Royal Power has the scope to rate higher

DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE STAKES
The Duchess of Cambridge Stakes takes place over six furlongs and is the fillies’ equivalent of the July Stakes, which takes place over the same distance for colts and geldings on day one of The July Festival.
First staged in 1947, it was known as the Cherry Hinton Stakes up to and including 2012 before gaining its current title in 2013 in honour of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Formerly a Group Three race, it was upgraded to Group Two status in 1996
Over the years, it has provided a number of future Classic winners including Sweet Solera (1960), Pia (1996), Mysterious (1972), Diminuendo (1987), who all went on to land the Oaks at Epsom Downs In addition, Sweet Solera (1960), Pia (1966), Mysterious (1972), Sayyedati (1992), Attraction (2003) and Mawj (2022) all won the 1000 Guineas on the Rowley Mile the following spring
As well as Attraction and Mawj, another significant winner this century is Arabian Queen (2014), who went on to cause a 50-1 upset when defeating Derby victor Golden Horn in the 2015 Juddmonte International at York
Frankie Dettori and Walter Swinburn are the leading jockeys with five winners each, while Sir Henry Cecil and Sir Michael Stoute share leading trainer honours with four victories apiece

In what looked a two horse race, Star Of Mystery was sent off an unbelievably short-priced favourite at 1/6 for the Godolphin team. She started quickly from the stalls but was restrained by Buick.
Persian Dreamer, who was a winner on debut on the Rowley Mile course, was among similar tactics under Kevin Stott and appreciated the softer ground than when fourth in the Albany at Royal Ascot.
Under a lovely ride, she mastered the favourite readily, staying on strongly for pressure up the hill in a gutsy performance to score by one and a three quarter lengths.

Having proved as good as ever when successful over this trip on the Rowley Mile course in May, BAGUE D’OR seemed to find the drop back in trip against him when finishing midfield in a big-field Royal Ascot handicap 3 weeks ago Boasting an excellent record here, he could be worth siding with to come out on top back at 1 3/4m. Beamish is another to bear in mind with his Ascot run best overlooked. Fairbanks and Zoffee are a couple of others worthy of factoring in.

THE TATTERSALLS FALMOUTH STAKES PREVIEW
Today’s Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes is part of the QIPCO British Champions Series and is one of the first opportunities for three-year-olds to take on older fillies and mares at Group One level. A field of seven has been declared for the mile contest.
The highest rated of the four older females is RUNNING LION. The four-year-old represents last year’s joint winning trainers John and Thady Gosden and put up a career-best performance last time out when successful in the Group Two Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The oldest contender in the contest is five-year-old ROGUE MILLENNIUM, successful in the same Royal Ascot contest in 2023 but only fifth to Running Lion this year.
Although form shown by four-year-old SIRONA is some way short of Group One level, she looks interesting stepped back up to a mile after two staying-on performances over seven furlongs so far in 2024
Completing the challengers from the older generation is fellow four-year-old MAGICAL SUNSET Although well beaten on her only previous start at Group One level, she ran well last time when keeping on well to take fourth behind Running Lion at Royal Ascot
Irish challenger PORTA FORTUNA heads the trio of three-year-old contenders and is the highest-rated runner in the race. A daughter of Caravaggio, she is already a dual Group One winner with victories in last year’s Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes on the Rowley Mile and on her most recent appearance in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot She also went close to Classic success on the Rowley Mile earlier this year when second in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas
Fellow Irish-trained contender A LILAC ROLLA is the least experienced runner in the line-up with just four runs under her belt However, her latest run saw her go close to Group One success when she was second in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh in May.
JABAARA is the third three-year-old taking her chance Sixth behind Porta Fortuna in the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes on her only previous start in Group One company, she has recorded two comprehensive victories at Listed level on her latest two outings at Musselburgh and Carlisle. She completes an intriguing line-up for today’s feature race.

2022 winner Prosperous Voyage tried her luck to make it back-to-back victories in the race but NASHWA produced one of the most impressive performances of the whole July Festival.
Following up on John and Thady Gosden’s win on Israr the day before, Nashwa looked much more at home dropping down to the mile trip in a commanding victory. The classy mare proved in a league above her opposition on the day to defy Remarquee in stylish fashion by five lengths.
The even money favourite Via Sistina was a further length back but they both had to watch the superstar strut her stuff out front.

PORTA FORTUNA impressed with the way she picked off one who got first run on her at Royal Ascot and can become the first since Alpha Centauri in 2018 to complete the Coronation/Falmouth double. Fellow Irish-trained 3-y-o filly A Lilac Rolla has improved with each start and could be the one to give her most to do if that trend continues.

Race preview from Weatherbys
13 two-year-olds go to post for race five on today’s card, the seven-furlong Weatherbys BritishEBFMaidenStakes, with half-a-dozen ofthosebeingdebutants.
Of the newcomers, Our Terms hails from a family full of winners but might improve as hegoesupintriplaterintheyearandsimilar commentsapplytothe200,000gnspurchase WhiteCrownStarwho represents Sir Michael StouteandSaeedSuhail.
RalphBeckettsaddlestwowithoutexperience, those being the Camelot colt SingUsASong – who is another who cost 200,000gns and is bred to improve over further – and fellow expensive purchase Starzintheireyes. A fullbrother to Grade 1-winning juvenile hurdler Sir Erec, the former will probably be better equipped to handle the likely prevailing conditions, although Rossa Ryan presumably hadthepickofthepairandhasoptedforthe latter.
Charlie Appleby is another trainer who runs two,withJamesDoyleaboardtheonce-raced RoyalOfficerandWilliamBuicksettopartner Mothecombe. The latter is from a family of winnersandoughttocopewiththegroundas longasitdoesn’tgettoosoft, whilsttheformer wasbeatenondebut, havingbeenboughtfor 1,000,000gns in April. Appleby won this race in 2017 (division one), 2018 and 2021 so the Godolphinrunnerswarrantutmostrespect.
Mothecombe is from a family of winners and ought to cope with the ground.
On a line through the runner-up, Field Of GoldhasabittofindwithRoyalOfficerbuthe was quite green on debut at Doncaster and the grey son of Kingman can, therefore, be expectedtotakeastepforward.

The white-faced Mount Kilimanjaro looked in need of the experience when fifth at Leopardstown and is another who can be expected to improve. A €420,000 yearling purchase, the Siyouni colt represents the powerful Aidan O’Brien stable and the inform trainer has three runners on the card in all. Being by Siyouni, soft ground shouldn’t reallybeanissuebutthedam’ssidewouldn’t convinceyouinthatregard.
Of the remainder, Shamal Wind is a halfbrother to plenty of winners, including Dream Of Dreams, winner of two Group 1s on soft ground.Hestepsupintriphavingrunoversix atbothYorkandCarlisle.

PLAY SMARTER
An open-looking sprint to end the card but preference is for NO HALF MEASURES, who can have her latest third in a big-field Royal Ascot handicap marked up given she was first home in her group and the booking of Ryan Moore certainly catches the eye. Second choice is Good Good Good, who is 2-2 and looks a filly worth keeping onside now handicapping, while Isle of Lismore and Fantasy Master are another couple worth mentioning, too.

LOOKING AHEAD TO TOMORROWS RACING
The My Pension Expert July Cup, the centrepiece of the three-day July Festival, is one of the most valuable sprint contests in the European racing calendar, with the 2024 running worth an advertised £600,000. It forms part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.
Sponsored for the first time by My Pension Expert this year, the Group One event, run over six furlongs on the famous July Course, is widely acknowledged as the sprint championship of Europe
Springfield, bred by Queen Victoria at the Hampton Court Stud, took the inaugural running in 1876, and followed up a year later to become the first dual winner Springfield also proved top-class over longer distances, landing the Champion Stakes over 10 furlongs in 1877
Other outstanding victors in the early years included Sundridge, successful in 1902, 1903 and 1904 - the only triple winner in the history of the race The son of Amphion was a true rags to riches story, having graduated from selling company. He was also a great success at stud, being a highly influential sire in Europe and North America.
The great mare Diadem added to her victory in the 1917 1000 Guineas by scoring in 1919 and 1920. Diomedes, a grandson of Sundridge, recorded a brace of victories in 1925 and 1926, on the latter occasion dead-heating with Phalaros, while flying grey Abernant landed the spoils in 1949 and 1950
Another dual winner was Right Boy, triumphant in 1958 and 1959 The son of Impeccable, purchased for 575 guineas by his trainer Bill Dutton - the winning rider on 1928 Grand National victor Tipperary Tim - also landed the Nunthorpe Stakes twice, the King George Stakes twice, the Cork & Orrery Stakes twice (now the Platinum Jubilee Stakes) and the King’s Stand Stakes
In the 1970s, the July Cup was dominated by the formidable trainer-jockey partnership of Vincent O’Brien and Lester Piggott. They hit the bullseye four times during the decade, kicking off with Thatch in 1973, followed by Saritamer (1974), Solinus (1978) and Thatching (1979) Piggott continued his excellent form in the race into the next decade, securing the 1980 renewal aboard Moorestyle This kick-started an outstanding period for the July Cup, with the next five winners - Marwell (1981), Sharpo (1982), Habibti (1983), Chief Singer (1984) and Never So Bold (1985) - all rated as the best sprinter in Europe in their year
The 1990s saw two big upsets in the July Cup. Hamas, a 33-1 shot, triumphed under Willie Carson in 1993, getting the better of favourite College Chapel to deny Lester Piggott an 11th success in the event, while Compton Place shocked punters when landing the prize at 50-1 under Seb Sanders four years later.
Agnes World holds the distinction of being the first ever Japanese-trained winner in Britain when taking the 2000 July Cup. Trained by Hideyuki Mori and ridden by ace Japanese jockey Yutaka Take, he prevailed in a thrilling finish by a short-head from Lincoln Dancer with another short-head back to Pipalong in third.
As with so many Group One races, Vincent O’Brien’s successor at Ballydoyle, the unrelated Aidan O’Brien, has enjoyed great success in the July Cup with a joint-record five winners courtesy of Stravinsky (1999), Mozart (2001), Starspangledbanner (2010), US Navy Flag (2018) and Ten Sovereigns (2019).
MOST SUCCESSFUL HORSE:
Sundridge, the only triple winner, is the most successful horse in the July Cup. His victories came in 1902, 1903 and 1904
MOST SUCCESSFUL OWNER:
Jack Joel and Coolmore syndicates with various combinations of Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith with five wins each are the most successful owners
Joel was successful with Sundridge (1903, 1904), Spanish Prince (1912, 1913) and Golden Sun (1914)
The Coolmore winners so far are Stravinsky (1999), Mozart (2001), Starspangledbanner (2010), US Navy Flag (2018) and Ten Sovereigns (2019).
MOST SUCCESSFUL TRAINERS:
Charles Morton, Vincent O’Brien and Aidan O’Brien share the honour of being the most successful trainer with five July Cup wins apiece.
Morton’s five winners were Sundridge (1903, 1904), Spanish Prince (1912, 1913), and Golden Sun (1914)
Vincent O’Brien scored with Thatch (1973), Saritamer (1974), Solinus (1978), Thatching (1979) and Royal Academy (1990)
Aidan O’Brien’s five victories so far have come courtesy of Stravinsky (1999), Mozart (2001), Starspangledbanner (2010), US Navy Flag (2018) and Ten Sovereigns (2019).
MOST SUCESSFUL JOCKEY:
Lester Piggott rode a record 10 July Cup winners - Vigo (1957), Right Boy (1958, 1959), Tin Whistle (1960), Thatch (1973), Saritamer (1974), Solinus (1978), Thatching (1979), Moorestyle (1980). and Mr Brooks (1992)
Among the current generation, two jockeys have ridden two winners: John Egan – Pastoral Pursuits (2005), Les Arcs (2006)
Adam Kirby – Lethal Force (2013), Harry Angel (2017)
Ryan Moore – US Navy Flag (2018), Ten Sovereigns (2019)

IMPORTANT NOTICES
RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE
The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
