Not only does today mark the start of our Autumn and Winter Season with a further 5 race meetings between now and end of December together with the Border Point to Point on Sunday 28th November but is our first meeting without restriction where we are able to welcome back spectators. Whilst normality is slowly returning, everyone’s safety remains our priority. Unless you are exempt we would request you wear a face mask when moving around inside the buildings, use the hand sanitisers stationed around the racecourse and observe social distancing. Today’s meeting is generously sponsored by Sky Sports Racing and we are pleased some of their team are on hand to choose the Best Turned Out Horse, as well as presenting a memento to the winning connections following each race. Our next two meetings come in quick succession in October, Friday 1st and Saturday 9th. We strongly advise anyone wishing to attend either of these meetings to purchase tickets in advance which can be done online through our website or by contacting the racecourse office on 01434 606881. Anyone requiring assistance of any kind through the course of the evening should contact the racecourse office situated next to the turnstiles or ask a member of racecourse, security or catering staff who will be delighted to help. EACH HORSE HAS BEEN GIVEN A STAR RATING, DEFINITION BELOW: Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. Selected to win the race. Can be given little or no chance. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright. An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4. A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting. • Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered • 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only . Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2. • 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2 • 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3 • Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3 • Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4 • Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PL ACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds. When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race. If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings.
