THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS

TURNKEY BARDYKES FARM NURSERY SCHOOL

WELCOME A last welcome to our final raceday for 2021, our Maggie’s Raceday. This year has been one like no other, ever, and I’d like to thank you all for coming racing with us and supporting us throughout this turbulent year. We started in May with meetings behind closed doors again and only at the end of that first month could we start to welcome you back, albeit in small numbers. Ladies’ Night at the end of July saw a crowd of 4,500, then when we ultimately were allowed a capacity attendance, we celebrated with George Bowie and his GBX Anthems on Lanark Silver Bell Night. It’s been a journey for sure! My thanks go to South Lanarkshire Council for all their incredible help and support this season more than ever to help us through the ever changing Government guidance, and also to my wonderful team of staff who have been exceptional, taking on different roles and additional responsibilities to get the show on the road. They are all stars! Today we have eight races for you all to enjoy and my thanks go to all of today’s sponsors and partners for their invaluable support of the card and of Hamilton Park for another season. Of all the races to divide today, it couldn’t have been a more memorable one, for Ian Letham who remembers two wonderful people in his life who sadly are not here in person but will always be here with him and with us in spirit, his late wife Barbara Ann and son Jonathan. In the second division, Iain Jardine’s Havana Party will be looking to celebrate here again having won in June. In the final race of the season Liam Bailey will be looking for Megan Brookes to double Stronsay’s strike rate as he runs for the eighth time this season with us. Today will see our Championship Tables complete and the winning Owner, Trainer, Jockey and Apprentice Jockey announced. Straightline Bloodstock are leading the race for the Owners title whilst Keith Dalgleish has an unassailable lead in the Trainers Championship. Billy Garritty looks to have secured the Apprentice Jockey Championship, however Ben Curtis and Callum Rodriguez are currently tied in the Jockeys standings, so let’s see how today’s proceedings could change that. The last day of the season always has mixed emotion; some relief that we have made it, especially when the circumstances in which we are all living and working are so testing, but also sadness that it is the last day to see everyone here with us. We are delighted though that today can be what Hamilton Park is all about and have a family day for all to come to enjoy. Kids of all ages will I hope enjoy the off-track entertainment we have in the form of bungee trampolines and laser tag! I wish you all a wonderful day and also a happy and safe winter. We are of course always open here at the racecourse and hotel and so please pop in to the hotel bar and restaurant and maybe come along to one of our Christmas parties here at the racecourse! Kind regards, VIVIEN CURRIE MBE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

1.10p.m. THE EBF MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) RACE DESCRIPTION

This race is a five furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightlyraced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

RACE SUMMARY: MANILA SCOUSE made a promising

start when fifth in a Beverley maiden earlier in the month, especially given he suffered a poor run, so he gets the nod at the chief expense of Hi Meh Darling, who has the best form on offer but lacks the scope of Tim Easterby’s colt. Poetikel Piece shouldn’t be underestimated either after her highly promising Haydock debut sixth.

Second Race

1.40p.m. THE TURNKEY TROTTERS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

FOR THREE YRS OLD AND UPWARDS NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 6

RACE SUMMARY: THRILLA IN MANILA took his form up

a notch when scoring at Ayr last week so this C&D winner is fancied to defy a 5lb rise in the weights at the chief expense of Glorious Rio, who can also boast a C&D victory and rates a serious threat. Global Humor is another with winning form here who warrants plenty of respect under his 5lb penalty.

THE EQUI’S EXQUISITELY IRRESISTIBLE ICE-CREAM FILLIES’ HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards fillies and mares which have been rated from 71 to 90. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 90 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 85.

FOR THREE YRS OLD AND UPWARDS FILLIES AND MARES NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 4

Equi’s Exquisitely Irresistible Ice-Cream have very generously sponsored this race and will present a memento to the winning owner. In addition, they will present a cash prize to the person in charge of the horse judged to be the best turned out in this race. Owners Prize Money. Winner £8534; Second £4266; Third £2134; Fourth £1066. (Penalty Value £10800)

ONE MILE, ONE FURLONG about 35 YARDS (9f abt 35yds) (1800m)

Fourth Race

2.45p.m.

THE BARDYKES FARM NURSERY SCHOOL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for threeyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): K Dalgleish (58 wins from 439 runners, 13%) runs HOWZER BLACK Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (16 wins from 120 runners, 13%) runs POET’S DAWN Longest Travellers: TARROOB trained by W Haggas & BASHOSH trained by R Varian - both Newmarket, 360 miles.

BETTING FORECAST: 11-4 Tarroob (GB), 4-1 Tilsitt (FR), 11-2 Bashosh (IRE), 7-1 Glasses Up (USA), 9-1 Poet’s Dawn (GB), 10-1 Howzer Black (IRE), Jump The Gun (IRE), 25-1 Kraken Power (IRE)

RACE SUMMARY: TARROOB boasts a positive profile,

twice finding only one too good in all-weather handicaps earlier this year, and, on the back of a wind op, she’s fancied to be a lead player given her low-mileage profile on turf. Tilsitt is in excellent form and feared, along with Roger Varian’s Bashosh.

THE BARBARA ANN LETHAM AND SON JONATHAN MEMORIAL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) (DIV I) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

THE BARBARA ANN LETHAM AND SON JONATHAN MEMORIAL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) (DIV II) RACE DESCRIPTION

Some races can often prove very popular with owners and trainers and as a result more horses are declared to run than the official safety limit allows for. To avoid horses being denied a run which is obviously disappointing for connections, the British Horseracing Authority has allowed the previous race to be split into two divisions, with each contest carrying identical race conditions.
