THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS

WELCOME Welcome back to day two of our double meeting. Yesterday was a great day of racing and I am sure today, our Sodexo Raceday, will be the same. With so many declared horses we have a divided race today and so eight fine races for you to enjoy. Our thanks go to our catering partner, Sodexo, for their support of today’s card and their wonderful partnership throughout the year to provide first class dining experiences for you, our customers. The hospitality industry has been hit very hard throughout the pandemic with staff shortages and supply difficulties but we have never been let down by our tremendous team, both here on-site and also behind the scenes. This afternoon’s card opens with the Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events EBF Maiden Stakes with the aptly named for the sponsor, Espresso running with course expert Joe Fanning onboard. Later in the card the Sodexo Party Nights @ Hamilton Park Veterans’ Handicap sees 13 take to the field with the Easterby’s Where’s Jeff looking to go one step further than his previous 2nd and 3rd places this season. Although it is only September, we are already seeing many customers book in for our ever popular Christmas Party Nights, which is so encouraging that people are ready to celebrate again and confident in the procedures we are operating by to deliver safe and enjoyable events here at the racecourse. Our hotel is also filling up for those nights as it makes a lot of sense to avoid the palaver of trying to get home afterwards, and instead enjoy a very comfortable and welcoming overnight in, as today’s final race is named, our Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park hotel, here on-site. Today’s divided race sees the Training Courses Available at scottishracingacademy.co.uk at 3.55pm with a field of 10 followed by division II at 4.30pm with nine more running. Retirement Beckons is always a favourite of mine and Linda Perratt will be hoping that James Sullivan can repeat their success here in June this summer to be first past the post. September has come along very quickly this year, I think because of all the fast moving changes to the way we have had to work and deliver racedays. We are so thankful though that we have been able to stage the majority of our fixtures this season with racegoers in attendance, albeit in smaller numbers to begin with. Next Monday will be the last day of our season which I always look forward to with mixed emotion. It’s a great day to mark what we have achieved in the year, but it has a sense of sadness because it is the last day we are able to put on our show for you all to enjoy. I hope you can join us and help make it a day to remember. Kind regards, VIVIEN CURRIE MBE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

HAMILTON PARK RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE have generously sponsored this race and will present a memento to the winning owner. (Penalty Value £5400)

This race is a six furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

about SIX FURLONGS (6f abt 6yds) (1200m)

Second Race

2.17p.m. THE RACINGTV.COM HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

THE FOLLOW @ HAMILTONPARKRC ON TWITTER HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

THE SODEXO PARTY NIGHTS @ HAMILTON PARK VETERANS’ HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for six-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

THE TRAINING COURSES AVAILABLE AT SCOTTISHRACINGACADEMY.CO.UK HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (DIV I) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one-mile handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): T Easterby (29 wins from 169 runners, 17%) runs HILDENLEY Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (11 wins from 100 runners, 11%) runs HILDENLEY Longest Traveller: HILDENLEY trained by T Easterby, Malton, 203 miles.

He remains less exposed than most he meets here and can have his latest run at Carlisle overlooked having gone off too hard. Now operating from a career-low mark, he may well have a race of this nature in him. Chinese Spirit and Bawaader are a couple of others to consider. 1-2-3: 1.HILDENLEY 2.CHINESE SPIRIT (IRE) 3.BAWAADER (IRE)

ONE MILE, ONE FURLONG about 35 YARDS (9f abt 35yds) (1800m)

Eighth Race

5.35p.m.

THE HAMPTON BY HILTON HAMILTON PARK NOW OPEN APPRENTICE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) RACE DESCRIPTION

This one mile and one furlong handicap race has been designed for four-year-olds and upwards which are rated between 51 and 70 and is for amateur jockeys only. However, horses officially rated in excess of 70 are also eligible to take part. The conditions of this race stipulate that the maximum weight to be carried by a horse rated 70 would be 9st 7lb, so should a horse rated 75 be entered to run, they would be asked to carry 5lb more than the top weight – 9st 12lb.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): R Fahey (40 wins from 259 runners, 15%) runs HOT TEAM Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (11 wins from 100 runners, 11%) runs TEMPER TRAP Weightwatcher: RALPHY BOY TWO won off a handicap mark of 69, his rating is now down 9lb to 60. Longest Traveller: HOT TEAM trained by R Fahey, Malton, 203 miles. TEMPER TRAP trained by T Easterby, Malton, 203 miles.

BETTING FORECAST: 9-4 Detective (GB),

3-1 Temper Trap (GB), 11-2 Hot Team (IRE), 10-1 Ralphy Boy Two (IRE), 12-1 Tarnhelm (GB), 14-1 Equidae (GB), Flying Moon (GER) RACE SUMMARY: TEMPER TRAP seems to go well here and has Ella McCain taking a handy 3lb off so perhaps he can go in again. Detective has been a model of consistency at Carlisle this term and will be a big threat if as effective away from there. Ralphy Boy Two has been cut some slack by the handicapper since last seen so he could also have a part to play. 1-2-3: 1.TEMPER TRAP 2.DETECTIVE 3.RALPHY BOY TWO (IRE)
