THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS

WELCOME A very warm welcome to you all today on this lovely afternoon to our USave Utility Contracts Raceday. I am delighted to welcome USave as our partner for this meeting having now worked with them for over a year. What a forward thinking organisation and team of people who have always put our business needs first. I extend a welcome to all of your guests here today in hospitality, and at our on-site hotel, and hope you all have a wonderful afternoon. The first two races of the day carry USave’s name and support and we are so pleased to welcome Dane O’Neill to Hamilton Park who rides in the famous Shadwell silks and has ridden for the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum for many years. He rides Mark Johnston trained Qitaal today in the opener, the Usave Business Energy Consultancy EBF Novice Stakes. Champion jockey, Oisin Murphy starts his book of five rides in this Novice race too, and I’m sure as he goes for the championship again, he will be looking to clock up quite a few points today towards securing that title. We also have two memorial races today, for Big Drew Hunter and Alex MacDonald. I am always so very touched when families give us the honour of staging a race to remember their loved ones who have passed. It’s such a personal thing to do and today I hope we do them both proud with some tough competition in the Big Drew Hunter Memorial Selling Stakes at 2.50pm and a full field of some popular horses in the Alex MacDonald Memorial Celebration Handicap at 4.20pm. Our thanks also go to EBF and our sister company, the Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park for their support of today’s card. Racing TV also lend weight to today’s meeting with their subscribers in attendance via the Scottish racecourses’ Racing TV season ticket for September. The coverage by Racing TV is always exceptional and I love to record it while I am here on the day and be able to watch it when I go home at night. There’s something even more exhilarating about watching racing again when you have been at the live event, and Gordon Brown and the other commentators always add so well to the story on the day. I’d also like to make mention of our Annual Members who have their own race today. Firstly, I’d like to thank them all for their unwavering support throughout the pandemic and for staying with us when you were sadly unable to attend, through dates we were able to welcome you, but for social distancing requirements, we had to offer you a different facility on-site, to today when so many of you have kindly thanked Karly Mckay, our Office Manager who looks after the membership programme so well, for her dedication and constant help to you all throughout the season. There are so many regular faces we have seen over the years and today’s race is to say thank you to you all. After racing today we are welcoming back, by popular demand, soul sensations, Big Vern N the Shootahs! After all the restrictions we have all endured, it’s wonderful to be able to have live music again in our grounds and who better to have than this group? You can’t help tapping your foot to their rendition of so many favourites! Remember we are racing again tomorrow and then finally next Monday on 27 September we have our season finale. I sincerely hope you have all enjoyed this year and are able to come along one, or two more times before we close for the season. Kind regards, VIVIEN CURRIE MBE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

FOR NOVICE TWO YRS OLD, NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 6

RACE STATISTICS

USAVE Utilities have very generously sponsored this race and will present a memento to the winning owner. In addition, they will present a cash prize to the person in charge of the horse judged to be the best turned out. Owners Prize Money. Winner £2774; Second £1386; Third £694; Fourth £346. (Penalty Value £3510)

This one-mile Novice Stakes is restricted to two-year-olds but in order to take part all of the runners must meet certain conditions. Unlike a maiden, which is restricted to horses yet to record a victory, winning horses which have run in a maximum of six races are eligible to run. Weights are set according to sex before previous winners are allocated penalties depending on the level at which they have been successful. THE USAVE BUSINESS ENERGY SPECIALIST FILLIES’ HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one-mile handicap race for three-year-old and upwards fillies’ which have been rated from 66 to 85. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

Raymond Downie

In memory of Raymond Downie who passed away on 13th May 2020. Ray put up a good fight to stay with us, and in the end he passed peacefully. He was a loving husband to Catherine (Kate) and a very devoted dad and dad-in-law to Colin and Evonne and Stuart, and a doting Pa to Catherine and Fergus. Fergus didn’t meet his Pa but everyone around him will make sure he knows him. He was also the best friend anyone could have. Ray lived for his family...and his holidays...and in years gone by, his fishing - with many fishing tales probably best left untold! He was a keen football supporter and once upon a time he would never miss attending a game. He used to watch all, and any, sport on telly, his family joked that if paintdrying was deemed a sport, he would watch it. Football and horse-racing were his favourites and he loved having a bet and watching it on telly. Ray is sorely missed by his family and everyone who knew and loved him, but with plenty of happy memories to make us laugh he is always with us. We will always smile when we think of him and will look for him in rainbows.

This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 51 to 70. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 60 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 55. Fifth Race

3.50p.m.

THE MEMBERS OF HAMILTON PARK RACECOURSE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): T Easterby (29 wins from 169 runners, 17%) runs ALBEGONE Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (10 wins from 94 runners, 11%) runs ALBEGONE Weightwatcher: TOMILY won off a handicap mark of 77, his rating is now down 17lb to 60. Longest Traveller: SHESADABBER trained by M Mullineaux, Tarporley, 225 miles.

BETTING FORECAST: 13-8 Albegone (GB), 7-2 Mews House (GB), 13-2 Tomily (IRE), The Gloaming (IRE), 12-1 Shesadabber (GB), 20-1 Economic Crisis (IRE), 33-1 Angel Eyes (GB), 66-1 Lancashire Life (GB), 200-1 Heer Me (GB) RACE SUMMARY: ALBEGONE showed much-improved form from out of the blue when off the mark at the twelfth time of asking at Musselburgh last week. He had 4 lengths in hand that day and the performance is backed up by the timefigure, so he has obvious claims under a penalty. Mews House rates the main threat if his latest run can be overlooked, though Tomily has been given a chance by the handicapper. 1-2-3: 1.ALBEGONE 2.MEWS HOUSE 3.TOMILY (IRE) STEWARDS NOTE: ANGEL EYES: Following its run on 12/9/2021 it was reported that the horse’s saddle slipped late-on.

ALE X MACDONALD

In memory of Alex MacDonald who passed away on 1st April 2020. He was a loving son to Willie and Bet and like a brother to Elizabeth and special friend to David. He was “simply the best” friend anyone could have, his love of whisky and in particular Grouse is legendary..............He loved his football and loved a good debate about football and life. An electrician by trade Alex found the Arts in later life and appeared in a variety of films, TV and even a music video with the Proclaimers. Alex is sorely missed by all the gang, all his friends and everyone who knew and loved him, but with plenty of happy memories to make us laugh, he is always with us. Alex was a unique, one-off special person who loved to scribble and write down quotes. Two of his favourites... “never do today what you can put off till tomorrow”.....”when I feel like exercise, I lie down till the feeling passes” Cheers to you Alex.

Sixth Race

THE ALEX MACDONALD MEMORIAL CELEBRATION HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): R Fahey (40 wins from 259 runners, 15%) runs G FOR GABRIAL Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): R Fahey (7 wins from 61 runners, 11%) runs G FOR GABRIAL Weightwatcher: DANDY’S ANGEL won off a handicap mark of 64, her rating is now down 7lb to 57. Longest Traveller: PORT OR STARBOARD trained by B J Llewellyn, Bargoed, 355 miles.

BETTING FORECAST: 4-1 De Mazzaro (IRE), 17-2 Ooh La Lah (GB), Havana Go (GB), 10-1 Card High (IRE), Well Planted (FR), 12-1 G For Gabrial (IRE), 14-1 Dandy’s Angel (IRE), 16-1 Cheese And Wine (GB), The Brora Pobbles (GB), 20-1 Edgar Allan Poe (IRE), Mistamel (IRE), 25-1 Port Or Starboard (IRE), 28-1 Ezanak (IRE), 100-1 Tsarmina (IRE) RACE SUMMARY: Cases can be made for several, but it could pay to side with G FOR GABRIAL. Richard Fahey’s charge had little go right at Haydock earlier this month, and having now dropped below his last winning mark, he’s taken to strike. De Mazzaro is going through a good spell at the moment so he’s taken to chase the selection home, ahead of Well Planted and Ooh La Lah. 1-2-3: 1.G FOR GABRIAL (IRE) 2.DE MAZZARO (IRE) 3.WELL PLANTED (FR) STEWARDS NOTE: G FOR GABRIAL: Following its run on 2/9/2021 it was reported that the horse was impeded 1 1/2 furlongs out.EZANAK: Following its run on 8/7/2021 it was reported that the horse stopped quickly.
