EVENING RACENIGHT WEDNESDAY 9 JUNE 2021

WELCOME It’s great to see so many of you on course again as we race on the first evening meeting with racegoers allowed back with us. It’s certainly a testing time for all of us to keep abreast of what’s allowed and what’s not with regards to the latest Covid restrictions. With great assistance from our local council’s Safety Advisory Group we are pleased to be allow a medium sized crowd with bar facilities offered outdoors to you all. While last week, and the week prior, we were able to welcome the same number on course, alcohol service had to be restricted, and so thanks for your patience and also your acknowledgment of the need for social distancing around the grounds. It’s rewarded tonight with you being able to enjoy a cold beer or glass of wine! Cheers! Please remember though to keep a safe distance from others you are not in a group with and help us keep moving forward to larger numbers attending and more facilities opening up again. I’d like to put on record my thanks to my own team for the continuous spinning of plates and all their hard work to get us to this stage. On the track tonight, we have a seven race card starting with a full field of amateur jockeys all looking to make their mark. The 7.15pm Stay at Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park sees Richard Fahey’s Hot Team back after his win two weeks ago, again piloted by Paul Hanagan. He is likely to have competition though from Euro Implosion, for Keith Dalgleish, who will be keen to add to his success at Musselburgh the day before. The first of the Class 4 contests this evening has two from Keith Dalgleish’s yard taking on the favourite The Gloaming, before our second Class 4 race welcomes back Jim Goldie’s Call me Ginger for the fourth time this season, determined to make the Winners’ Enclosure. Our thanks to the team at our very own on-site hotel, the Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park for sponsoring this evening’s racing. We are certainly getting well known now as a great place to stay as every one of the 118 bedrooms have been fully booked last night and tonight. Thanks to all of you who are using it and supporting us as a business to come through the other end of the pandemic restrictions. Looking forward in June we are getting ready for Saints & Sinners on 24 June which we hope to see a good crowd come along to support this great charity. Every ticket sold will contribute to our donation from Hamilton Park to the charity. We also have racing next Wednesday on 16 June and again on 29 June - it’s a busy month! Have a great evening, and be lucky!

Kind regards, VIVIEN CURRIE MBE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

THE HAMILTON-PARK.CO.UK AMATEUR JOCKEYS’ HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 5lb.

THE BOOK OUR ON-SITE HOTEL EBF MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) (A HAMILTON PARK 2YO SERIES QUALIFIER) (GBB RACE) RACE DESCRIPTION

This race is a five furlong maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

THE #CLEANSTAY AT HAMPTON BY HILTON HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

THE FOLLOW US ON TWITTER @HAMILTONPARKRC HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlong handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

THE EVERY RACE LIVE ON RACINGTV HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a five furlong handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.
