SUNDAY 10th OCTOBER OFFICIAL PROGRAMME

Sponsor’s Thank You Goodwood Racecourse is very grateful to this year’s sponsors for their generous and continued support throughout the 2021 season. Today we would like to thank:

Become a Racecourse Sponsor Sponsoring a race is an excellent way of raising your company’s profile and generating great brand awareness. Season Finale Welcome to Goodwood for our Season Finale, which brings the curtain down on another year of racing here on the South Downs. The trees are just beginning to display their autumn colours, creating the perfect setting for us to enjoy the racing for one final time before the winter break. This afternoon, our first race is the Alderbrook Handicap Stakes, a flat race for professional jump jockeys. This two-mile contest provides a one-off opportunity to see some of the stars of the National Hunt world taking on the unique contours of Goodwood. The race is named after the 1995 Champion Hurdle-winner Alderbrook, an extremely versatile horse whose 11 wins on the flat included three victories here. The duel for the perpetual Dick Hern Trophy awarded to the leading trainer at Goodwood during the season looks set to be a closely fought battle between Andrew Balding and Mark Johnston. Berkshire handler Andrew Balding leads by the narrowest of margins, with ten successes over Mark Johnston, who has made the award his own in recent times. Today, we celebrate an afternoon with traditional fire pits to toast marshmallows to the backdrop of fabulous racing. I would like to thank the European Breeders’ Fund for their extremely generous support of racing today. I wish you all a wonderful time here at Goodwood this afternoon. Stay safe over the winter months, and we look forward to welcoming you back in 2022.

ALPINE STROLL: Following its run on 5/9/2021 it was reported that the horse hung both ways.

Race Summary TIN FANDANGO has had a break since winning on deep Lingfield ground over this trip in July and makes plenty of appeal. He boasts a decent record when fresh and a 6lb rise in the weights for that 11-length demolition at Lingfield is unlikely to prevent another bold showing. The jockey booking suggests connections are confident and he makes more appeal than Tralee Hills, who has enjoyed a profitable year in this sphere. Zillion can also get competitive under a light weight.

Win: Tin Fandango

Danger: Tralee Hills

Race Summary Silent Flame has been running consistently well for a number of months and she makes plenty of appeal competing from the bottom end of the weights here, but a chance is taken on LOVELY BREEZE. She faces her easiest task since winning a soft-ground C&D handicap in July and was runner-up on her only previous visit here, so clearly likes the place. Restless Endeavour and Desert Doctor are just a couple of others with claims in a competitive handicap.

Win: Lovely Breeze

Danger: Silent Flame

Race Summary In a competitive contest the marginal preference is for AL JADDAF, who has made the frame in all three of his starts in maiden/novice company. An opening mark of 80 appears fair and he could take plenty of stopping on his nursery debut. Serenity is a progressive filly who has to be respected having got off the mark at Wolverhampton last month. Unspoken is another with valid form claims, while Home City and Neptune Legend complete the shortlist.

Race Summary A repeat of her most recent effort at this track may be enough to see ELECTRESS open her account. The daughter of Galileo remains a work in progress and softer conditions could work out in her favour. Race Summary HMS President has been running consistently well in competitive handicaps all season and he warrants plenty of respect equipped with first-time blinkers, but preference is for the less-exposed CHAMPAGNE PIAFF. Two wins and a solid placed effort at Ascot on his last three starts show that he is still on the improve and Gary Moore’s charge is attractively weighted in this event. Raymond Tusk keeps running well at long odds and could figure prominently again, while Big Team and Graphite are others to note.
