THURSDAY 18 JULY

The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2024

WELCOME TO

Welcome to Epsom Downs for this evening’s summer racing followed by a sparkling night of ABBA Glam & Glitz on Hyperion Lawn. We are delighted to have you with us today as we continue our summer evenings in the sun on the Downs.

We have a fantastic evening in store for you, with six races continuing an exciting summer of racing here at Epsom Downs We’re very grateful to Betfred and the EBF for their support of tonight’s card, which features the Ladies’ Derby over the full Derby course and distance. Inaugurated in 2009, the race gives a once-a-year opportunity for the lady amateurs to experience the unique contours and undulations of our historic racecourse We are also celebrating Epsom’s close links with our twin town, Chantilly, as well as six-time Derby winning jockey Steve Donoghue across tonight’s exciting card

After racing on Hyperion Lawn, we welcome internationally acclaimed PLATINUM –The Live ABBA Tribute Show. PLATINUM provide an incredible tribute to one of the greatest music acts of all time, and the show promises an unforgettable evening of singing & dancing!

I hope you have a fabulous evening and please do not hesitate to talk to any of our staff if you have any questions.

Stewards Note:

ABSTRACTART: Following its run on 3/7/2024 it was reported that the horse ran green.

Probable S.P’s: 11-4 Attack (GB), 3-1 Jet Packer (GB), 6-1 Spell Master (GB), 11-1 Feeraas (IRE), 14-1 Broadhaven Bay (IRE), Great David (GB), 18-1 Imperial Trooper (IRE), Never Know (IRE), 22-1 Abstract Art (IRE), 80-1 Go Colin Go (GB)

ATTACK recorded a decent time when splitting a pair of subsequent winners when second at Yarmouth on debut so is worth another chance having been a bit disappointing at Sandown since. Jet Packer left his debut well behind when runner-up at Newbury and is the obvious threat, while Spell Master offered something to work on when sixth in the same race.

Sir David Prosser Trophy to be awarded to most successful Epsom trainer

The Sir David Prosser Trophy celebrates the achievements of the most successful Epsom-based trainer from the 2024 racing season.

The trophy was named in Sir David Prosser’s honour on his retirement from the non-executive board of Epsom Downs in 2013. Sir David made an enormous contribution to the development of the racecourse over many years and remained a loyal supporter of Epsom Downs and the local training community until his passing in March 2020.

The award for the 2022/23 season was given to Adam West, with 20 winners across the 12 month period. He was closely followed in second by Michael Attwater, with 18 wins and in third was Simon Dow with 17 winners. The award was presented at the Epsom Owners & Trainers’ Ball in November 2023.

The 2023/24 award started on the 5th November last year, and current standings as of 15th July are:

The presentation for the winning trainer will be made at the Epsom Trainers Association Ball in November. The Sir David Prosser Trophy championship for 2024 runs from 5th November 2023 to 4th November 2024.

Epsom Downs is home to nearly 180 horses in training. These horses have access to six miles and 250 acres of top quality training surface along the Surrey Downs. We are very proud of the training grounds here on Epsom Downs. Racing is part of our heritage and we want to ensure that we keep the Downs as a prestigious training ground and encourage further business from trainers and owners in the future.

NAASMA has returned in very good order, successful at Windsor in April and running with credit both starts since. Yet to finish out of the frame in 3 visits here, her mark remains a workable one and she shades the vote Gordon Grey comes here in very good heart and is feared along with fellow in-form sort Sisterandbrother Roost could also have a say down in grade with blinkers refitted.

It could be worth taking a chance on BATED BREEZE who did well under the circumstances having set a strong gallop on his first crack atthistripwhen fourth at Goodwood 6weeks ago

The application of a first-time visor could put an extra edge on him operating from this career-low mark. Havana Mojito has been in good form at Brighton and is less exposed than most so he’s a threat. Too Much Trevor and Nelson Rose can also feature in the finale.

DRESS CODES AT EPSOM DOWNS

At Epsom Downs Racecourse we believe racing should be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. And one thing is certainly true, the more relaxed and comfortable we feel, the more likely we are to have a great time. So that’s why we’ve created one very simple piece of guidance, to come “dressed to feel your best”. Whatever your tastes, the most important thing when choosing your outfit is, of course, comfort and confidence. So wear what feels right for you and will keep you feeling your best from start to finish, whatever the weather.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

In the event of an emergency please be guided by our safety stewards and by the messages you will see and hear around the racecourse. RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to

British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Epsom Downs Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
