PADDY POWER DAY SATURDAY 14 NOVEMBER 2020

TAP INTO REMARKABLE

THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU

Welcome to the second day of The November meeting. We are thrilled to welcome back Paddy Power as the key sponsor of the three-day meeting, including our feature race: The Paddy Power Gold Cup. The Grade 3 Handicap chase never fails to provide great excitement and attracts a high class field each year. Last year we were treated to a thrilling finish up the famous Cheltenham Hill as Happy Diva held off Brelan D’As on the line by just a neck. We look forward to seeing who will come home in front for our 2020 renewal. Along with Paddy Power, we’d like to thank our sponsors of today’s races: JCB, and Karndean. Their continued support is greatly appreciated. We can’t help but feel a sadness that there will be no racegoers with us at Cheltenham Racecourse for the return of our much loved Paddy Power Day, but you can still keep involved and updated through our Jump Racing Hub and through our Twitter page. Please enjoy the action live with ITV Racing or Racing TV and let the magic of the Paddy Power Gold Cup into your homes. MARTIN ST QUINTON Chairman

IAN RENTON Regional Director

DON'T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING - SUNDAY 15 NOVEMBER THE NOVEMBER MEETING - DAY 3 The final day of this unmissable meeting at the Home of Jump Racing. As we are racing behind closed doors, stay involved from home through our Jump Season Hub for a digital racecard, news, and top tips. You can also follow @cheltenhamraces on Twitter. It's true that all roads lead to The Festival™, but the magic starts at The November Meeting.

BETTING EXPLAINED — Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number. — Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet. — ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. — ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet. — Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet. — Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience. — Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

A DAY AT THE RACES EXPLAINED — Explore and familiarise yourself with the racecourse. — Find out the time of the first race in the racecard. Races are about 30 minutes apart and provide a natural focus for your day. — Visit the Parade Ring around 20 minutes before each race. This is your chance to see the horses up-close. Look for signs of their fitness and attitude. A glossy coat, pricked ears and alert nature are considered good. — Watch at least one race by the railings, as close to the finishing post as you can get.

RACEHORSES EXPLAINED — Jump horses are generally sturdier and bigger than Flat horses. Key attributes are endurance and strength. — Flat horses are lighter and more elegant for shorter, faster races. — They use a different set of muscles, so muscle definition varies just like in human athletes. — On average, Jump horses race - or ‘travel’ - at 30mph. — Flat horses are faster at 35mph and the best exceed 40mph during a race.

All the horsepower you need.

There may be some fine examples of raw power on display this week, but none can compare with the performance of the JCB Fastrac. With a JCB engine boasting over 1,000hp, it stormed into the Guinness World Records book after being crowned the world’s fastest tractor. It hit a top speed of 153.771mph on its way to recording an average of 135.191mph at Elvington Airfield, York, England on 24.10.2019. In the yellow colours aboard the beast was Guy Martin, who partnered with JCB to make his recent Channel 4 show.

PLAY SMARTER

A case can be made for lots of these but the most persuasive one is for KILFILUM CROSS who ran a cracker when runner-up in last year’s Kim Muir here and should be spot on after his reappearance Fakenham fourth. Lamanver Pippin is much less exposed than most of these so is greatly feared for the Tizzard team, while What A Moment can’t be ruled out in his attempt for a third win in this contest.

FUSIL RAFFLES won an uncompetitive race last month but it was over C&D and an excellent time adds substance to the form, so he is fancied to make it 3-3 over fences. Both Eldorado Allen and Gumball have much better days ahead of them too so are fancied to chase home Nicky Henderson’s very bright prospect in a fascinating novice chase.

There should be more to come from TEA CLIPPER now stepping up to 3m and he can defy the handicapper again and make it 5 wins from only 6 starts. Dandy Dan has a slightly lower mark to work with back hurdling and rates a possible danger for a stable which continues in good form. On The Blind Side and the thriving Dell’ Arca are others to consider in what looks a typically competitive renewal.

PLAY SMARTER

A fascinating Listed bumper in prospect with ELLE EST BELLE just about the most persuasive option as she beat 4 last-time-out winners with plenty up her sleeve sweeping from last to first in a steadily-run contest at Aintree 3 weeks ago. Ucanaver was a 20-length scorer at Fontwell and is useful, while Ishkhara Lady advertised the skill of her trainer at Uttoxeter.
